George sent me... This is utterly unique :-)

Cmon we gotta beat the tiktokers!

Happy to add to the sames! George has helped me discover so much amazing music, but Abel has the potential to be the best!
"Hey you wanna play this piece? All you need is a virtuosic ability to play cello, including harmonics, harmonic pizzicato, left hand pizzicato, strong sense of syncopation... oh yeah and Mongolian throat singing."
i don't think he ever throat sings i think it's just a vocal growl
@@tyronium2it is kargyraa
@@tyronium2at about 50 seconds in he throat sings. It’s a South African throat singing style called “unmgqokolo”
South African, not Mongolian.
You forgot about the singing and making vocal rhythms which include clicks.
A frican love this.
Nice joke
@@valentinasanchez5757 Thank you!
💀
😂😂😂😂
I rarely comment on a video after watching it only once, and classical music has always intimidated me. But, as someone whose mother tongue is Sesotho, this moved me beyond what I anticipated. Thank you Classic FM, and thank you Abel Selaocoe. 😭😭😭
As someone who played the violin for 8 years and some change, somewhat classically trained, this man ignited a spark. Haven't really played in 20 years. So thankful for this human being just doing whatever feels natural with the tools he was given.
Could u please translate what he says?
Thanks for telling me what the language is called! Time for me to go down another language rabbit hole...
bro is shredding in 11/8
never knew you could shred on a cello
El Scorcho
You haven't seen Two Cellos?!? You must. The band is not this guy by any means, but shredding is occasionally involved
I've never heard anything like this, I'm blown away. What an incredible display of both technical proficiency and musical ingenuity. Inspiring and beautiful.
African music has so much to still give us. It is often said that 'everything has been played before'. This piece disagrees.
that s (Western) pop music! the world is big, thankfully
Do you know what Afrobeats is?
Besides the amazing creativity and composition here, the technique is stellar. I've worked my whole life to just be able to do relatively simple left-handed pizz as a cellist, and this man effortlessly executes complete rhythmically dynamic runs of left-handed pizzicato that is both well phrased and crystal clear. I've seen violinists do it, but rarely have I seen a cellist do it so well and with such expressive projection. I'm ashamed I have only just become aware of Abel. This was amazing.
This changed my life in the fact that I didn’t perceive sound could be made like this. Truly a leader and visionary in the music realm. Big ups to you brother
Wow... Deserves at least a few more million views!
TikTok brought me here. This is absolutely fantastic. I’m mesmerized. And loving every bar.
As a violinist i can say. He brings very new influence for the cello.
500% better then all pop music together.
Keep on going.
Great.
that's an unfair statement. Pop music is popular because it appeals to people. Some people might not like this music. The claim that something is 'better' in this context is completely subjective.
@@Keef335 True. Better is kind of vague but he probably means that it is more creative and thought provoking as well showing a lot of skill.
@@Keef335 modern pop music is usualy factualy profit and not enjyoment/"music"/"quality" driven (I can iterate if wanted)
But pop music is its own kind of art, I agree
It tries to be as easily digestible, repetative and simple as possible, while not being boring
The art is to make it easy to remember, get into, sing and jam along to, dance to
and because of that, they try to get to the border of boring, but not cross it
The modern music industry does not want people to be creative and to innovate, it wants emulation and for any new creative ideas to be kept to a minimum
@@keytron1391This is why I personally don't listen to modern music. It's still supposed to be like early digestible and catchy but it really can't scratch my itch of seeing the creativity of musicians musically and seeing how they develop ideas.
There really is no limit to how cool humans can be, is there?
I need to memorize his name because this man is a star ⭐ in human form.
Sacred sounds. Harmonia Mundi lives on!
This song needs to be in a movie
Wow this feels so cinematic, like watching a nation overcome adversity after the final batte and coming to terms to the new future
Wow! So many influences outside of his own South African heritage, seamlessly integrated. Wonderful Tuvan-style Kargyraa over western classical violin techniques of every kind, and then some, etc. Ferocious technique delivered in such a passionate, joyful manner. A musical treasure chest. I'm so gobsmacked I can't even write full sentences.
Also South Indian vocal percussion (konnakol).
Dude is so precise! Love the way he finds interesting ways to accent rhythm; with the clicking tones of what I assume is his native language, and the hammering on the fingerboard with his left hand, to the “sharp” stocatto bowing! It’s such a nuanced performance, glad I can say I’ve seen it here but I feel I NEED to see this in person! Bravo!
Agreed on all accounts. I have to see him live.
It's mainly Tswana Language and a bit of clicks from Khoe Khoe
I read that he is incorporating many African languages into his repertoire-to celebrate Africa. Bravo!
If you want a truly soul affirming experience, go see this man and his band live. It’s like going to the church of music, it’s absolutely beautiful.
AWESUM°~ I THINK SHE ENJOYED IT^
Saw this on tiktok and had to watch the whole thing

Yep!!!
Sent to all who care about music...
That was one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed. Bravo!!
More people should be enjoying this right now
I just bought the CD. One snippet of a track heard elsewhere and I was hooked!
We need this as a soundtrack!
Beautiful! Finger style sounds like Miyavi, Japanese guitarist, song Selfish Love.
Total Miyavi vibes ❤
But also a very unique and beautiful experience. It's a wonder this has so few likes. If I could, I'd like it a 1000 times - that's how much I loved it. ❤
My Sister just put me on to Abel as she attended his concert in London last night, here I am in the south of NZ at midnight and understand now why she was mesmerized.
Almost otherworldly! I’ve never heard anything like this and I loved every second of it.
Despite how strange this is the more I listen the more this grows on me, absolutely FIRE!
The way he pushes both the cello and his vocal cords to the extremes of their capabilities is extraordinary! I haven't touched an instrument in decades but seeing this put a flare of passion in that old muscil spark, truly inspiring!
Please explain where and how he showed technical proficiency with the cello
@@yea4253sure! you can especially see it between 0:00 and 3:50. hope this helps!

Super!!! Bravissimo!!!!!👍👏👏👏🎉
Epic and warm at the same time. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is unbelievable!
Beautiful
An Mongolian throat singing, what a tradition
In this case its likely a uniquely independent tradition of Xhosa throat singing particular to South Africa. Aren't humans amazing, similar tradition, half way across the world ❤
I didn’t even realize there were african indigenous groups that also do throat singing. I’ve always thought its really cool
@@eid6584 As a Kenyan, it's common. The Maasai do it too. I basically learned from the internet that it's supposedly mongolian... I actually think many African tribes do it.
Mesmerizing!!!!
Fantastic!
Wow! 👏👏👏👌
The man and the instrument are really one. Really magical
gorgeous
Marvelous talent!

1:35 there is a certain type of guitar songs that sound just like how that cello is being played now. Does anyone know the genre? It's beautiful

Am here for South Africa 🎉❤
Honestly, this would be perfect for an anime or in a video game ost boss battle 💯🤙🏾💥
He is playing on Arvo Pärt Fratres and Tabula Rasa, check it.
