    When I first heard you mention you had an oak tree in that area, I immediately thought “oh - they’re gonna regret that one.” Then the fact you mentioned today that it could still be moved, I thought I’d chime in as an owner of multiple (gigantic as in 100 feet tall-ish) oaks. Be wary of not just the leaves but the acorns! Oh my - it’s a task that if they don’t get picked up immediately and repeatedly, you’ll end up with baby wannabe trees growing everywhere that you have to pull. Very high maintenance! Beautiful, but beware!!! :)

    • @marys1934
      @marys1934 2 месяца назад +4

      I totally get why people chop oaks down and make furniture out of them! Spring you get the green wispy pollen strands everywhere, fall the squirrels throw the acorns at your head, winter the ground crunches - from the broken acorn carpet where the lawn used to be. Then there's the seedlings everywhere the squirrels dug holes to hide them (think every single pot & planter you own) All year long branches and bunches of leaves constantly dropping everywhere. Ugh. I'd chop it down but it's my neighbors tree and they would be peeved if they came home and it was missing. I love them as long as they're far enough away that I don't have to deal with the (literal) fallout!

    38:54 Cracked me up! I think the reason GA's NINE Japanese Maples aren't as noticeable in the videos is because they are planted (or potted) as understory specimens - like under or near large trees/evergreens. The understory is the middle layer between large tree canopies and groundcover. I love seeing it in GA's landscape and her folks' gardens.

    We have a 2000 gallon Aquascape koi pond that is located in an old growth post oak grove. We have an enormous amount of leaf drop in the fall so we net our pond right before the leaf fall starts. Also we net again in the spring for the bloom drop from the oaks. We make hoops from slim pvc pipe that we spray paint black so they disappear then slip the ends over rebar that is hammered in the ground far away from the liner. Then we stretch shade cloth over the hoops secure net to the pvc with zip ties. If we have extra net on the ends around the pond we roll the extra under in a sausage roll then lay a few rocks to secure. The net is very tight and can be blown off by a yard blower if needed. A simple solution to a huge problem for us. It takes only 30 minutes to net our whole pond.

    Please move those oaks. We bought a property that had four mature oaks in the front of the property and one huge oak in the back. Every autumn, the fun starts. Those oaks do not drop their leaves all at once or even in the fall! The oak leaves hang on and drop all fall, winter and spring. The leaves get caught on anything in the way when the wind blows. The first chore in the spring is to rake oak leaves that have fallen just before, during, and after snow falls. You will never regret moving those trees elsewhere. The topper is that the leaves are not even an attractive color which might have given a little incentive to keep them., not to mention all the acorns which attract squirrels who will decimate any bird feeders. Your pond and your new plans for streams will thank you!

    Did you have any idea the pond was going to be such a huge expensive ongoing chore? It's beautiful for sure, but the work involved would keep me away from such a large installation. Trees are a part of nature, they drop their leaves that is what they do. You have always said you want a hidden natural retreat, if you remove the trees because they have leaves it is no longer natural. I remember when I was a kid those types of purses were all around. In fact, we had one that was an alligator (?) purchased in Florida. LOL it was a thing in those days.

      OMG, the first thing I thought was why they would want this nightmare. Apparently, they've never had a pond. Ignorance is bliss.

      I would not want that type of pond with the work involved! I have a 2 acre pond in my front yard that I don’t have to do anything to besides weed eat around and that is all the work I am willing to do. Lol

      To the pond "whiners".. Everything in life is a lot of trouble. Kids, pets, plants, hedges, horses, ageing parents, etc. Folks just pick where to spend their own time and treasure. ⏰️ 💰.

    Oh boy...Aaron and his Agave..."a plant that could kill you...one wrong move, and you're dead"! This had me in stitches! I couldn't laugh out loud as my husband was sleeping. I watched this three times and laughed each time!

    It’s 6:30 am in N Central Texas and I’m hearing Aaron’s news alert, “ man fell into agave plant and sliced up?” 😂😂😂❤I am cracked up!!!

    I agree with Laura on removing the oak trees from the pond area!!! We have large oak trees and I hate the ugly brown leaves in the fall and it’s such a pain to clean up! The pollen is ridiculous in Spring and there will be a film of yellowish-green dust everywhere!!! And don’t get me started on the acorns! Save yourselves! 😂😉
