I was contemplating switching to 36v from the gas powered head, but as worried the 36v wouldnt run the edger, an boom! This video answered every question, cmon xmas lol
Yes this is a great edger. I actually did a video of my new M18 edger because it is a little easier for me to use a straight edger because I am lefty. Glad this video helped 💪🏼
This video really helped me in my final decision on purchasing that edge trimmer to use on my 40v Ryobi trimmer that I have been using for over a year. Grabbing my edge trimmer tomorrow! Excellent video! Thanks!
I just bought the ryobi expand-it with edger and brush cutter because my edges are overgrown and I got brush everywhere and my other 2 40v string trimmers don't have any options for that. It's good to see that I was using the edger correctly, I just suck at it. Also a fellow southpaw, the struggle is real.
@@Luwinkle the struggle is definitely real. I recently started switching up my battery brand and went with Milwaukee. Their edger is a straight edger so it helps me a little more. But Ryobi in my opinion is neck and neck with Milwaukee, at least with the equipment I owned.
Just got this today and loved it except just like you, being a lefty, it’s not as easy to use walking on the right side of the unit. Just like regular scissors you can’t see the line with the dominant eye. It’s a little awkward but managed after a few strips. It surely cuts nice and is way better than using a string trimmer.
Awesome yea it is way easier than a trimmer. Especially when you first have to cut in an edge. Hopefully Ryobi comes out with a straight shaft option for people. They always leave out the lefties 😂😂😂
I have the ryobi 40V expand it trimmer. I also have the tri blade attachment for doing heavy brush and weeds. Bought the tri blade this year, had the ryobi for 2 years. Only issue I have is the weight of the Ryobi. A backpack to hold the battery with a cable to the unit might be a solution. Tried a strap, too cumbersome. Spent more time trying to get the strap comfortable Just had my cement driveway put down and I will be needing the edger now. Thanks for the video. So far I have been overall pleased with all my ryobi products. I bought the blower with the charger and battery pack too, so I have 2 batteries and chargers as they are all interchangeable. They also have a sweeper attachment you might want to look at too. Keep on Mowing...
Yes Ryobi makes a great product for sure. I started to use the Milwaukee stuff now because I prefer a straight edger not a curved one. The blower from Ryobi would drain my batteries so fast. I believe that’s that way with all battery blowers.
I have the same model however I have trouble switching out the string trimmer for the edger. Love the string trimmer and all things Ryobi but I need to learn how to put that edger on it.
i was really holding off on buying it , but im glad i did buy it. My 40v trimmer broke down so i bought a new trimmer that supports the expand it and bought the edger too fro 99 bucks. I was being to cheap and wanted to just use the trimmer, but its not the same. The dirt and grass it pulls out is way more cleaner and deeper also looks way more sharper. You can creat a gap from grass and concrete so u dont have to edge that often compared with the trimmer every lawn cut u have to do the edege. i really like the tool, the battery last a a long time also. Also, it it kicks back and gets a shock too hard it will cut off and u gotta take off the battery and just restart, not a big deal and does not happened often. I wished i Bought this tool way before , totally worth the money. This may sound weird, but i get a a satisfaction feeling when i edge it also knowing im getting my moneys worth . your video is great., i watched it before i bought it.
Awesome man yes it is a great edger for sure. It was a little hard for me being left handed. I wish they had a straight shaft option. Glad the video helped you 💪🏼💯
I admit I don't use edger blades I just use the weed eater to edge, but with edger blades you definitely get better results. Your having too much fun Tony your gonna do the whole neighborhood 😂Nice clean crisp edges. Ryobi is stepping up their game for sure brother 👊💯
@@TexasGreenThumbLLC on this I actually had the wheel as high as it will go. So the blade was deep as it would go. Honestly I seen people take the wheel off and run them.
@@TheLawnFellas thank you for response, this is helpful! When I tried mine yesterday it was jumping off the ground idk if it was cause the wheel adjustment.. or do you just try to keep it control and force it down?
Great video, I use the regular echo edger blades. I think that royobi wouldn’t work for a over grown edges. I think you’d be better off with a straight shaft edger.
Your right with the straight shaft edger because me being lefty it would probably help me but I think it’s better to be on the sidewalk so either way I might have to hold it like I did. And I do like echo and shindaiwa. But this Ryobi is nice around the house and some manicured lawns I used that trimmer the other day and it’s nice 👍🏼 battery came along way. Thanks for watching bro appreciate it 👊🏼💯
I don’t think your looking at the same thing. This is the Ryobi expand it 40v edger attachment. Which is on sale right now at Home Depot. You get charger battery string trimmer with Edger attachment for $248. Can’t beat it. I actually switched all my stuff to Milwaukee now switching to Makita because of hedge trimmers. But the Ryobi stuff is right up there with both of them. Hope that helps.
Yes in anything with power I recommend the 40v system in all lawncare. The blower no matter what they seem to do eats batteries. But everything else is pretty good at lasting a decent amount of time.
What's up Fellaaaa! The first edging is always a pain in the butt! Lots of build up of decaying thatch and mud. It'll be WAY easier to maintain now. My 1st Ryobi was a 14.4v drill in the 90's. That little thing kicked butt! When it finally crapped out, I got a larger drill with a larger capacity battery. CRAP! What a waste of money. I tried replacing the batteries. NOPE! Went to Makita and never looked back. Now I even see Ryobi riding mowers on a couple of yt channels and the people swear by them! They look and run great! Hopefully, Ryobi has stepped up it's game and this unit lasts a good long time for you. Best of luck, Brother. Great video. Good info. Have an awesome weekend. God bless.
Yes Ryobi has stepped up with some equipment ( That blower chews up the batteries). Used the string trimmer the other day on my entire lawn and used zero bars and it did great. But your right on the first time edging it’s a little difficult but nicely manicured lawns the trimmer and edger will do well. I know that there hedge trimmers are absolutely awesome 👍🏼💯 god bless Louuuuu enjoy your weekend also!!
Lol Yea it was a little awkward for me. I like the edger but switched to Milwaukee because they have a straight edger. I am lefty so this one was a tad difficult for me.
This edger has a poor design…it needs two wheels one in front of the blade and one behind the blade so there is no lower areas being cut ….with two wheels the depth of the cut is the same throughout…the front wheel is the one that can be adjusted to lower the blade….I use an electric one by black and decker that I bought used for $10 so being that it is Black Friday I wanted to buy an attachment for my ryobi trimmer( the trimmer is of very poor design also) here in my neck of the woods the house lots are mostly 1/4 of an acre so having to drag a cable around is not so bad I guess…I can understand needing a battery operated trimmer in some of the places , like Texas, Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, West Virginia etc etc (all of them places where they love trump) where I guess the land is not as expensive as where I live….1/4 of an acre for a million dollars….one of these days I am going to get tired of all this bull$hit and I’ll let my old gardener comeback and deal with the bs …
I have rotary scissors and after watching this it looks like unless you keep your lawn up to date weekly - those scissors are still going to get plenty use. I didn’t think these would struggle - coming from a 40V system. I can only imagine how the 18V standalone edger fares??
