    3. Drink green tea instead of coffee
    4. Include garlic in your meals
    5. Be active
    6. Quit smoking
    Thanks doc!

    I had a stroke and I ran 13k the week before. I was healthy and I had no arterial stenosis or cholesterol issues and I ate garlic religiously. Drank green tea twice a day. I used very little salt, had low blood pressure and was healthy. The cause of my stroke was microclots from long covid and an open PFO shunt in my heart since birth. The clots were most likely in my legs and moved up after sports massage. Not all strokes are diet related. Since taking Asprin post stroke I no longer have breathing issues that I had before from long covid microclots coming up into my lungs. There needs to be more awareness about this issue besides the standard causes of stroke.

    How about an open letter from health care practitioners to food manufacturers to lower salt drastically? The issue needs help. Amy's drive thru and frozen foods etc. Impossible and beyond burger, tofurky, plant based cheeses and the rest, would all benefit by lowering added salt drastically with better health for themselves and their customers. According to news reports in recent years African Americans are more sensitive to salt. Regardless, our community are having higher stroke rates so lowering added salt is major. There were alot of African Americans who've never smoked having strokes in the 60s when I was growing up. This part of my reason for saying this. Then there's people like Richard Overton who live to be 112 years old who smoked not sure how much salt was in his dietary intake but he told everyone he smoked at least 13 cigars a day. I wouldn't do it just because he did it, but the fact that he didn't have a stroke matters.

      Really? Black tar and chemicals are mitigated by extra servings of fruits and vegetables and not eating hormones and antibiotics from the meat industry? Better than someone eating the standard American diet and smoking, I suppose, but It sounds to me like that's just the rationale you've come up with to continue your addiction. If I tell you to look at pictures of black smokers' lungs, I'd guess that won't impact you. I'd guess you'd come up with a "yeah, but..." excuse: the photos are doctored, or that your vegan eating isn't making your lungs as bad as the ones in the photo, or "one can't deny themselves every singly pleasure in life, that's not realistic, this is the vice that I choose", or whatever. Until you uncover the reason(s) for your wanting the feel-good dopamine rush from the chemical in the first place, I don't think anything that anybody says will convince you. In my opinion, it's the same thing with weight loss, people don't start and then keep the lasting weight change until they've found the internal reason and motivation to do so. I wish you luck in finding yours!

    is the effect from garlic purely due to BP reduction? why did you emphasize only nuts in a study that uses general mediteranian diet & nuts? why mention neck artery thickness but then don't follow up with K2???

    Dr Greger the updated Predimed study also showed that extra virgin olive oil reduced risk even further for CVD as a whole but a little less for stroke specific (nuts reduced stroke to a HR of 0.54 (46% reduction) while extra virgin olive oil reduced stroke to a HR of 0.65 (35% reduction)).. The adjusted HR of the extra virgin olive oil group (EVOO) for CVD (primary end points) is 0.69 while the group with nuts was at 0.72. So taking the totality of cardiovascular events, extra virgin olive oil is better than nuts.
    My point is, you're saying the data in this study on nuts is satisfactory but not on olive oil. And I know why make such a claim. Because of other research on olive oil that shows it's harmful effects. But still, if you're going to use this study to say that nuts are good but have another stance that olive oil is not it just seems a little off to me.

Just because something provides a healthy outcome in one area, but then a HUGE negative in others, doesn't mean you should use it. Think of the OVERALL benefits. As a Doctor with a oath to do no harm, do you REALLY think he's going to promote something so unhealthy, just because it has a benefit somewhere? LOL get real.

      @jasmgreenfield1015 4 года назад +1

      Well... Having visited Google Scholar I can see there is indeed nut protection from the stroke but not as much bean protection. I made my initial comment based on assumption that stroke has mostly or entirely cardiovascular mechanism (in terms of protection). Then it is possible to conclude brain tissue needs something in addition to good circulation (more resilience - in case of ischemic stress). Lipophilic antioxidants. My 98% uneducated hypothesis. But, if you have very clean arteries it may be not as relevant unless there is assault of different nature - head injury/infection/contamination or whatever. Being "heartproof" is good, but then we also need to be "neuroproof".

One bulb In zone 5/6, dig up around fourth of July, hang stalks to dry 2-3 weeks, then cut bulbs from stalks and clip most of root ‘beard’. I store my garlic bulbs in mesh bags in dry basement.
