According to news reports in recent years African Americans are more sensitive to salt. Regardless, our community are having higher stroke rates so lowering added salt is major. Hey I really wanna stop smoking but I feel like I have little health incentive since Im vegan and I just feel that I mitigate so much stuff that smoking is kind of whatever. Can someone beat me over the head with something that can make me stop smoking? BTW I dont even smoke that much, 5-7 cigs a day
Really? Black tar and chemicals are mitigated by extra servings of fruits and vegetables and not eating hormones and antibiotics from the meat industry? Better than someone eating the standard American diet and smoking, I suppose, but It sounds to me like that's just the rationale you've come up with to continue your addiction. If I tell you to look at pictures of black smokers' lungs, I'd guess that won't impact you. I'd guess you'd come up with a "yeah, but..." excuse: the photos are doctored, or that your vegan eating isn't making your lungs as bad as the ones in the photo, or "one can't deny themselves every singly pleasure in life, that's not realistic, this is the vice that I choose", or whatever. Until you uncover the reason(s) for your wanting the feel-good dopamine rush from the chemical in the first place, I don't think anything that anybody says will convince you. In my opinion, it's the same thing with weight loss, people don't start and then keep the lasting weight change until they've found the internal reason and motivation to do so. I wish you luck in finding yours!
Your breath smells foul, and so do your clothes, ten times more than you can detect, but it is very obvious to non-smokers. Don't tell lies about 5-7 cigarettes per day. You know it's more than that if you have a problem. Is that enough beating? 😄 Maybe someone else can take over from here, I'm too gentle...
@@charlesgraham5550 I'm really not lying about the number of cigs though. Sometimes I even go whole days without smoking like when Im out with my girl because I don't like smoking in front of her.

is the effect from garlic purely due to BP reduction? why did you emphasize only nuts in a study that uses general mediteranian diet & nuts? why mention neck artery thickness but then don't follow up with K2???
Dr Greger the updated Predimed study also showed that extra virgin olive oil reduced risk even further for CVD as a whole but a little less for stroke specific (nuts reduced stroke to a HR of 0.54 (46% reduction) while extra virgin olive oil reduced stroke to a HR of 0.65 (35% reduction)).. The adjusted HR of the extra virgin olive oil group (EVOO) for CVD (primary end points) is 0.69 while the group with nuts was at 0.72. So taking the totality of cardiovascular events, extra virgin olive oil is better than nuts. My point is, you're saying the data in this study on nuts is satisfactory but not on olive oil. And I know why make such a claim. Because of other research on olive oil that shows it's harmful effects. But still, if you're going to use this study to say that nuts are good but have another stance that olive oil is not it just seems a little off to me.
@@adiohead That's not a good argument. You're using this data to say their research methods on nuts were good enough, but not on the olive oil? and will therefore still make recommendations on the nuts, but not olive oil.
lolz, I bet you're a vapour too, eh? Where you're not jumping from the 10th floor with smoking, but the 5th floor instead? Just because something provides a healthy outcome in one area, but then a HUGE negative in others, doesn't mean you should use it. Think of the OVERALL benefits. As a Doctor with a oath to do no harm, do you REALLY think he's going to promote something so unhealthy, just because it has a benefit somewhere? LOL get real. Are nuts healthy for you? Yes. Are ANY oils healthy for you? No. Just because something provides a benefit, does not make it HELATHY.
@@ddpwe5269 You ignored my argument and then went on a tangent in defense of Dr. Greger. Grow a pair buddy. He's not a flawless human and deserves criticism when it is deserving. The study he used to promote nuts here shows he should also promote olive oil. You can't have it both ways with the same study.
lets see that guts dr greger, im finding it impossible to loose weight eating chia pudding lol i think mcdougals right the fat you eat is the fat you wear, ill be cutting the chia pudding out in a few month to see if theres a change

Too bad doctor doesn't care about beans. Arginine. Vasodilation. Tea is a green leafy vegetable. I drink soup (broth??) of tea. Don't forget to add some tea to your salad! On a serious note I'm quite surprised to see how potent fruits are! No kidding... Wondering if dark skinned plums are up there too!!
@@TheWodeh but you see, somehow beans flew under the radar in this video. So I'm giving Dr. Greger hard time. Low fat beans are at least just as good as high fat nuts in terms of stroke prevention (are they not). PS: prunes season is coming!!
Well... Having visited Google Scholar I can see there is indeed nut protection from the stroke but not as much bean protection. I made my initial comment based on assumption that stroke has mostly or entirely cardiovascular mechanism (in terms of protection). Then it is possible to conclude brain tissue needs something in addition to good circulation (more resilience - in case of ischemic stress). Lipophilic antioxidants. My 98% uneducated hypothesis. But, if you have very clean arteries it may be not as relevant unless there is assault of different nature - head injury/infection/contamination or whatever. Being "heartproof" is good, but then we also need to be "neuroproof".
Garlic very easy to grow in your back yard. Order organic bulbs from reputable sources in US for fall planting.
@@mapagatu Make it a rule that you must look at a photo of your girl every time you smoke. Look into her eyes and imagine what she thinks about your filthy habit. You act as if you're a non-smoker in her presence. Think how duplicitous you are with that cigarette in your hand. How can she trust a man like you?
@@mapagatu You're kidding yourself man. If you eat obnoxious amounts of kale you can mitigate some of the damage, but no matter how healthy you are, you're rolling the dice with chronic disease and early death by indulging, even if your odds are better than most -plain and simple.

edit Clarification
is the effect from garlic purely due to BP reduction? why did you emphasize only nuts in a study that uses general mediteranian diet & nuts? why mention neck artery thickness but then don't follow up with K2???
Is easier to tell what to not eat
💚💚💚
having an apple while watching.
Make sure you dip that apple in cake frosting, for total nutrition! 💪
You have done the same with other studies too (in your book), where fish was included and also lowered risk, but you didn't recommend the fish.
@@gallectee6032 Because there are other reasons why not to recommend fish and oil.
Consume olives and take EPA/DHA from algae instead.
YOU'VE LOST WEIGHT!
First
lets see that guts dr greger, im finding it impossible to loose weight eating chia pudding lol i think mcdougals right the fat you eat is the fat you wear, ill be cutting the chia pudding out in a few month to see if theres a change
there's no fat in chia pudding (unless you're putting lard or coconut oil in there). I do chia pudding with water and it is extremely low calories. Just curious why you think chia pudding would be a problem...what are you putting in there?
@@veganfortheanimals6994 cronometer must be wrong then?
@@veganfortheanimals6994 Chia seeds are like 30% fat by weight, just like flax...although I guess if you don't grind them up, none of it is absorbed?
Dr Greger might want to go back behind the camera. I’d like to share this video but he doesn’t look well.
My 7 year old niece could probably have him in a fight
Too bad doctor doesn't care about beans. Arginine. Vasodilation. Tea is a green leafy vegetable. I drink soup (broth??) of tea. Don't forget to add some tea to your salad!
On a serious note I'm quite surprised to see how potent fruits are! No kidding... Wondering if dark skinned plums are up there too!!
Yes plums/prunes are. And what you mean doctor doesn't care about beans?
It's just my sand dry humor. Dr. Greger does care about legumes ;)
Cornflakes ohh , not that kind of...
Troll warning.
Veg Source is in the comments section.
But can we fry out lard in organic butter?
Edit: your replies are making me physically sick...
No, that's gross. Add them both to your morning coffee instead.
First, wrap the lard around a Snickers bar and freeze it before deep frying so it doesn't melt 👍
yeah, a chiropractor told me that's a good idea. He said deep fried lard is healthy so it must be ;-)
You lost me at Bill and Melinda Gates 🤮
But most garlic comes from China. Is that safe
Garlic very easy to grow in your back yard. Order organic bulbs from reputable sources in US for fall planting. One bulb In zone 5/6, dig up around fourth of July, hang stalks to dry 2-3 weeks, then cut bulbs from stalks and clip most of root ‘beard’. I store my garlic bulbs in mesh bags in dry basement.
racist and paranoid. is anything even safe in the eu or usa or jpn?
Not racist. That i an ignorant statement
Let me guess,, plant based?
LOL hearthealthywholegrains!
No matter what
I don't agree with high fruits...••••••>high Fructose 😏 less heart problems
Sorry I don't agree unless you mention or you ment Low Glycemic fruits...they YES.. EXAMPLE ALL BERRIES
High vegetable...👍👍👍👍♥️ Good quality carbs if you have good Microbiome
ALL WHOLE foods are absolutely fine. It's when they're processed down and fiber is removed that makes fructose bad you.
I don't disagree, but It's also a matter of where you're starting from. If you're full out on "standard American diet" then getting off the crap and into more veggies and whole fruits is a great step. Then in the next stage you can cut back on the higher glycemic fruits.

@@juliatshamoun4666 yes the American diet is very SAD indeed. How woefully appropriate that acronym is. It sounds like you're in a great place with the food you eat, I wish you continued good health!
Doubly important for vegans given their higher stroke risk.
