    Hey Marshmallows! Didn’t expect so many people to be disgusted by my use of the word “cheat” so just to clarify before I get another tonne of comments about it…I know it wasn’t technically cheating BUT it’s still not great 😆

      A lot of people think that Ross cheated. And then there are others who keep reminding that "technically he didn't and they were on a break" to justify his actions. This debate has been going on for 25+ years now and there is no end to it 🙃 Some say this, some say that.... and us fans keep on fighting 😅 It's neither here nor there when it comes to this issue, there is no right answer. The ones who say he cheated will never change their minds, the ones who say he didn't will never change their minds. So you have the right to feel which way you want and should not be forced to explain. 😀

      You’re right. It's not about whether they were on a break or not, it's just that Ross slept with another woman the same night they "broke up." Also the woman he slept with, which no one remembers, is the same woman he talked to Chandler about when they were sharing their fantasies and bedroom stuff. Despite being in a relationship, he looked at her differently. I like Ross, but he always acts so innocent, as if he hasn't done anything, which makes me HATE him sometimes.

    Oh Oscar, I adore your channel ♥️ Please don't stress about the comments. This is a discussion NO ONE is going to settle 😅 it's been going on for 20+ years.
    Getting more aggressive comments can of course be overwhelming, and the bigger your channel gets, the more likely they'll unfortunately increase 💔 I wish that as a community we could shield you from that, but I also hope it doesn't discourage you from voicing your opinions. That, your caring personality, and your giggles of course, are what's wonderful about this space, and why we love you!

    Matthew was really sick throughout this season, he was losing weight visibly. You will see in the last episode the difference with season 4 where he is in much better shape, he had time to go to treatment during the 3 months of the summer break and had regained his original weight, the difference is spectacular between the last episode of season 3 and the first of season 4. I honestly agree with your assessment of the Ross Rachel argument. It was never in doubt that they WERE on a break, Rachel said as much during their argument in the previous episode. Even if we agree with Ross' interpretation of it as a break up - it was still the worst possible thing he could have done.
    It really bothered me how he tried to gaslight Rachel into forgiving him by blaming her for the break - like he hadn't shown up at her workplace unannounced, caused havoc and dragged Mark into the conversation again - basically pushing Rachel to the brink of despair.
    Even considering his actions as genuine mistakes, his behaviour post break up was super annoying. He went around acting like the injured party (which he wasn't) and pulled a complete 180 from his original recognition of the fact that what he did was messed up. Instead of confronting his own insecurities and messed up behaviour, he became mad at Rachel for not being able to forgive him. And I don't blame her. He doesn't deserve it.

Remember when Ross planned a romantic evening with Emily before she went back to England the first time but Rachel ignored his plans and threw her party anyway so she could hit on her customer? Or when she flew to England to ruin his wedding? Or when she convinced his girlfriend to shave her head? Rachael is the most self centered character on the show in my opinion.
      He doesn't respect her autonomy, not because he thinks less of her, but because he's totally insecure in himself. Which I agree doesn't matter functionally because it sucks for Rachel no matter the reason.

People in these comments also seem to be blaming rachel to mark coming over?? she never wanted him! she needed a friend and regardless of marks intentions, that was rachel’s. and ross is a insecure man who never believed the word of the actual person he was with. and you can’t tell me it wasn’t a spiteful act for him to hook up with someone- he thinks he was right all along so he’s gonna get back at her. THATS GROSS and i think that’s why he clingsss to the TECHNICALITY of broken up or on a break because he knows that was gross. and then to play victim to the all the other friends really didn’t sit right with me i hardly ever rewatch that episode 😂😒

    • @Joker_JAK
      @Joker_JAK 7 месяцев назад +3

      The technicality is absolutely valid since it's a very big, defining technicality. That technicality meant they were no longer in a relationship and he was absolutely free to do whatever he wanted with anyone else, including sleeping with someone. He had every right to do so. Conversely, Rachel had every right to hang out with Mark or even sleep with him if she'd wanted. They were both single. So, that technicality matters a great deal since it means they were no longer in a relationship.

He behaves like he has no empathy for how much that behavior hurt Rachel, regardless of if he’s “technically” right or wrong about them breaking up. Healthy relationships aren’t about winning a point at the expense of someone that you’re meant to love and respect. And he expected to get back together with her after that so if he was behaving like a good partner, he would care about how Rachel felt more than if he can say that he’s right or not. Yeah his actions come from a place of insecurity and sometimes even cowardness - fear of losing, of being alone, of being "abnormal"/not being the nice guy and fear being cheated on (for his jealousness I blame his first wife Carol).
      But like fear often does it leads to exact the things we are afraid of and his fears are making him clingy, hiding his quirkyness and making him mean and acting like a "little", fearfull man. So I have problems with Ross as a character in the show as well.
      But I also have problems with Rachel. she is not empathetic not only towards Ross. She is spoiled, wants the things she couldn't have and doesn't know her own feelings. And the break-up (and it was a break-up) originated in her lack of comunication. She couldn't tell Ross her passion for her job until it is to late, she couldn't tell him at any point what priority he and their relationship has to her. She couldn't set clear bounderies to Mark and worst of all she gave up the discussion "the talking", because she couldn't handle it. She might really thought of a "break" when she said it, but when she saw the reaction from Ross and his dispair - she should have known, this is a break up and a hurtfull one.
      She didn't want to fight at that point for their realtionship, because Ross always came for her and was making her his priority.
      I could totally understand, that she can't get out of her head him having sex with another woman as if their relationship was long gone. But I can understand his devastation going through this break-up and when he wanna fix it by talking to her having his worst nightmare come true, when Mark answered the phone.
      Quintessential: I could not blame one side more for this messed up situation, but I think they shouldn't be together at all. Ross cowardness and her selfcentered personality are just not meant for a healthy relationship. For me they are stuck in some drama for the show, that in real life shouldn't be forced togehter.

    I will forever hold that a "break up" is different than a "break".. and since Ross stormed out when Rachel asked for a break rather than stick around to clarify what that meant for them before he slept with someone else, he is 100% in the wrong (and I am a huge Ross fan, so that hurts to say lol).
    I also like to think that Phoebe's brother would have been the type to have been held back in school some... and it sounds like he met Alice and they fell for each other really quick. I dont think it even matters whether or not Ross 'technically' cheated on Rachel. I feel like if you love someone, you generally avoid doing things that would hurt them whenever you can, even if you feel hurt by them. In what universe would Ross think that him sleeping with Chloe wouldnt hurt Rachel, no matter their technical status at the time he did it. There isnt a second where he would have thought Rachel would be fine with it. And the fact that he repeatedly for years tries to claim the technicality is why he is such a dbag. He hurt her, but his focus is almost never about how much pain Rachel felt. Instead of taking responsibility and trying to mitigate her pain, he tries to make her feel like she is 'technically' wrong for being in pain over it. For years, every time he says 'we were on a break' he is trying to invalidate her pain in order to assuage the guilt he should have felt hurting the woman he claimed to love. The whole thing is just a massive demonstration of him putting his ego ahead of Rachel's heart. The technicality of whether or not he was technically single at the time is totally irrelevant - he is TA either way.

When watching older shows it's best to disable the default Gen Z Offended Mode.

      What is with the need to act like it’s wrong to respond like something is racist when it is racist? He doesn’t need to know the context of the specific commercial to understand that the descriptor isn’t an ok thing to say. The commercial was racist and Chandler joking about the commercial is racist. Racism isn’t always a malicious thing. That said, we all know that these kinds of jokes were more common in the 90s - because people were more outwardly racist. It’s actually ok to enjoy old media and also to be cognizant that it has its flaws too. It’s a great way to appreciate all the positive changes that we’ve made as a society and to maybe understand people a little better without excusing their past behavior. He clearly still appreciates the show for what it is so there’s really no need to police any valid issues with the more problematic parts

    Let's just be real, Ross is a jerk. He has to be right and get his way. Think of how he treated Monica after he and Rachel started dating. Monica even called him out on behaving like when they are kids, when she hated him for bullying her. Ross is a bully and a gaslighter, and him trying to get the others to feel sorry for him was appalling. Even if we want to pretend that they were on a break and pretend being on a break is the same as breaking up, Ross had already been established as a cheater before that. Remember, Julie? She was sweet, they didn't fight, and they weren't "on a break" or broken up, but Ross cheated on her with Rachel when Ross came to the coffee house to confront Rachel about her feelings. Yes, it was kissing instead of sex, but it was still cheating, and he was stone cold sober, so he couldn't even use being drunk as an excuse for his reprehensible behavior. As for Ross and Rachel, whatever he categorizes their break as, he's still the slime ball who had sex with a woman only a couple of hours after his and Rachel's fight, so clearly, he didn't love Rachel that much if he could do that. And he didn't take ownership of his appalling behavior and continues to not take ownership, because he has to be right. He's the most insufferable main character on "Friends."

      It’s not about if they were on a break or not, it’s just that Ross slept with another woman the same night they “broke up.” Also the woman he slept with, which no one remembers, is the same woman he talked to Chandler about when they were sharing their fantasies and bedroom stuff. Despite being in a relationship, he looked at her differently. I like Ross, but he always acts so innocent, as if he hasn’t done anything, which makes me HATE him sometimes.

      @@heidos7 What was wrong? That he has sex? Because he sure didn't cheat. When does the break up buffer zone start and end? Does Ross have to wait 3 days and then receive written permission from Rachel in order to have sex with someone else? Why is Rachel so controlling of who her ex gets to sleep with? She doesn't have to take him back but if someone says it is wrong, they are doing so usually because it is "kind of" cheating, which it was not. If you think it is okay to have sex in a relationship because you are dating, why is it not okay when you are not dating. The logic on Rachel's side is flawed. She is not a victim

    I don't agree with the way Phoebe handled it, and as much as Frank and Alice seem to be in love it's just creepy. And more because Alice was his teacher than the age difference. It's the power imbalance. He was her student and she took advantage of that. And it's also likely they started the relationship before he turned 18. Some would consider that grooming. Plus, the way Frank acts seems like he may be mentally impaired. Or maybe he's just eccentric and naive like Phoebe. But do a gender swap where it's an 18 year old girl marrying her 44 year old male ex-teacher. That's just gross.
    Even though I loved Monica and Richard together, the fact that he knew her when she was a literal baby is kinda creepy.
    It's not mentioned here but in 1x03 "The One with the Thumb" Phoebe gives Chandler $7000 as long as he never smokes again. So naturally he should have had to give her the money back.
    Writer/creator/executive producer Marta Kauffman is the voice on the hypnosis tape that Rachel gives to Chandler to help him quit smoking.
    Jon Favreau had started to get known at this time. He had had small parts in a few movies. Then he starred with Vince Vaughn in Ruby in 1993, which started a great friendship between them and they would work together a lot after that. In 1996 he wrote and produced his breakthrough film Swingers, which they starred in together. And in 2006 he starred with Vince and Jennifer Aniston, who were a couple at the time, in The Break-Up.

    I know you already addressed this in your pinned comment but it’s not that Ross cheated on Rachel because he didn’t because you cannot cheat on someone that you are I guess technically no longer with because a break isn’t really breaking up. It’s more like a pause so it’s kind of like, a break is like a comma in a sentence and a break up is more like the period at the end of the sentence, people often use breaks to do exactly what Ross did as opposed to using the break as time to work on themselves and figure out how they can make that relationship better when they decide to go back to it. I would say that it is safe to say that the communication skills between Ross and Rachel are almost nonexistent. Ross is very much so insecure, and as soon as he heard another man’s voice, he just lost whatever sense that he had, and slept with someone else the same night that they declared being on a break not being broken up. I don’t know how Ross could have had feelings for Rachel since what was it high school and then finally got the opportunity to be with her and then do this monumental screw up

I know you also react to movies, and the original 1972 version of the film is a classic worthy of a reaction, for sure. They also did a sequel movie in 1979 and a re-make in 2006 called Poseidon. In my opinion, the sequel was nothing special and I've never seen the 2006 remake.

    As others have pointed out Rachel herself says at at least one point they broke up rather than they were “on a break” and regardless I believe Ross thought they had broken up. Also I don’t get the it’s gross/horrible Ross had sex with someone else right after breaking up argument. Rebound sex when depressed & drunk, which Ross seemed to be, isn’t that unusual. He turned the girl down initially yet she was a bit pushy & bought him a drink so in his state he went with the flow. I mean don’t get me wrong as Ross trying to hide the truth was wrong, he wasn’t a very understanding boyfriend, and Rachel at the same time didn’t always take Ross’s feelings to heart so I don’t think their relationship was very healthy.

    Alright I don't get it, Ross has made a lot of bad decisions but this whole "cheating" thing? He wanted to work on the relationship, Rachel wanted to break up, they broke up, he then wanted to get back together, Rachel wanted to have Mark over instead, they stayed broken up, she then wanted to get back together and so he got back together with her. Literally everything he did was a reaction to her decisions, I'm not saying everything he did was good or smart but a bunch of people are playing this game where they pretend he affected their relationship and she was just an innocent powerless lamb who was a victim of his horrific actions when literally she made every decision about the end/ new beginning of their relationship, she always had the power. What happened is she didn't like the consequences of her actions, which, y'know what, is fine, even Ross thought it was a drunken desperate mistake born from heartbreak that he regrets, but he didn't do that to her, he did that as a result of being rejected by/ broken up with her. Everyone thinks it's dumb, everyone thinks the attitude he takes afterward is childish and that in and of itself is another bad decision by him. Yet somehow so many people have this weird interest in putting all of the responsibility on him and none of it on her even though, when came to their actual relationship status, she had all the power and she made all the decisions.

      Rachel said to take a break from us, and before clarifying he stormed out, rachel wanted to make up when he was at the club and he’s the one who hung up on her. Both mark and ross seem to think just because they feel a way, rachel must feel the same way; rachel was very clear she didn’t want mark romantically and if ross hadn’t been so insecure they would’ve been fine, but because he doesn’t trust rachel, hearing him in the background he again didn’t bother to listen to rachel, (the person he claims he loves) and then spitefully sleeps with someone else. you seem to be placing a lot of the blame on rachel when all the ACTION that took place, was ross’ doing

    • @michaeladundon
      @michaeladundon 7 месяцев назад +1

      Ross behaved appallingly which lead to the break, stormed out instead of clarifying what the break meant, Mark came over uninvited and the whole time he was there she talked about how she wanted to be with Ross, she wanted to make up with Ross immediately but as soon as he heard Mark's voice over the phone he (once again) stormed off without clarifying what was actually happening and he slept with someone on the same day that he thought they were broken up. Yes Ross is in the wrong and not Rachel. The choices she made were based on how badly Ross was treating her.

    • @johnburnscrystaljack
      @johnburnscrystaljack 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@michaeladundon This is what I'm talking about. "Mark came over uninvited" Yeah, so don't let him in. She actively had over a man she knew was interested in her that Ross hated after telling Ross she wanted to take a break from their relationship. How would you honestly react if someone you were trying to get back with invited over someone you hated who you knew was interested in pursuing them? Y'all act like Rachel isn't an adult who makes her own decisions. Despite that she always had control of the relationship status and her own actions y'all act like 100% of the situation is just Ross doing things and 100% of it is things just kinda happening to poor powerless Rachel. It's infantilzing and it's doesn't come close to reflecting reality.

    • @johnburnscrystaljack
      @johnburnscrystaljack 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@aliciaa4859 That's just not accurate at all, Rachel decided the break, Rachel decided to have over Mark, Rachel decided she wanted to be with Ross again. What Ross was doing wasn't acting it was reacting. To her actions/choices. Ross did decide to sleep with someone else once they were broken up, that is an action he took, but in Rachel's own words they were broken up, so he gets crucified for the one real action he took while they were not together while y'all pretend Rachel made absolutely no choices and that things just kinda happened to her.

    • @michaeladundon
      @michaeladundon 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@johnburnscrystaljack like you said, Rachel is an adult, she is allowed to have friends outside of that group. Ross was trying to control who she could talk to and hang out with. If Chandler or Joey had been there he wouldn't have minded but he had a problem with Mark because he was jealous and possessive thinking she would cheat, which is ironic since he is the one who did it. So what if Mark had a crush on her? Rachel made it very clear she wasn't interested and spent the whole time talking about Ross. Ross hating Mark doesn't mean Rachel isn't allowed to be friends with him. People should never try to control who their partner is friends with.
