The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Stefan Noesen of the Carolina Hurricanes.
HEAVIER, EDGIER, MORE VIOLENT!
I love this move for the Bottom 6.

I know not many are going to care, but I have to say Thank you Brenden Smith for being the only one to have a set of BALLS on this team till BIG MAC got added. He left for Dallas today. Next to Lazar, he was my favorite player on the Devils. I don’t give a S about what people say about him, he was good on the PK, played O and D, locker room leader and stuck up for the team when everyone else was cosplaying Jesus.

Also, he was my second game worn jersey(3 point night from last year) I bought and I have his 3rd jersey gloves. 😆
@TravelinDevil76 I love Brendan Smith. I will always remember him for beating the absolute sh!t out of Anders Lee after dumping him to the ice TWICE on the same shift. I may or may not have ordered that game worn jersey seconds after the play unfolded. Smith carried the BALLS flag on his own for months before Mac arrived. I was a Smith fan for sure. I wish him best of luck in Dallas!
We needed some bodyguards for our Star players. I’m excited about this year. Mercer is one of my favorite players but he played like he was lost in the sauce last year. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Noesen will basically replace Miles Wood's role on this team and will do it better. This was a great add.

This is the ace episode and attitude I want to see. Yes he did beat Haula up good. He rakes faces with fists and elbows and will square off at any time.

Can’t blame fitz for not catching the big top 6 fish, I’m sure he did everything he can to go after stamkos and marchy but we weren’t the only hunters looking for that big game and they had deeper pockets than us. All in all it’s been a very good offseason and we should definitely be back in the playoffs if the team can stay healthy. Anything can happen, LGD!
@abrahaml5641 D and goaltending WILL NOT be an issue! Love to see it. The bottom 6 is looking beautiful as well. I was really hoping for the Top 6 help. I would have loved Marchessault at that price. You all will be very pleased with Kovacevic soon as well. He has had a steady growth curve since his days at Merrimack. He likes to hit and shuts opponents down in space. Will be interesting how lineups take shape on the blue line.

Ace I know Fitzy missed the boat getting a top 6 forward, and we have only 6.7 million left in cap. Thoughts on bringing in one of Nicoli Ehylers from Winnipeg for around $4-5 mil or making a trade with Utah for Crouwse, power forward and in his mid 20s ?
@johnsumner8487 I think Fitz wants to conserve at least a little bit for an emergency fund....I would love to see another guy brought in, we will see what he does. Lots of people are high on Ehlers for sure, but he does make $6M. Easier said than done.....the Palat contract is really weighing us down
Yep, between Cotter, Noesen, McDermid, Dillon, and Kovacevic we became a much tougher group.
It'll be a great balance with the skill Jack, Meier, Bratt, Hischier, Dougie, Luke, and Nemec.
Good balance of veterans and young guys. Great #1 goalie and a good backup. Good coach with a lot to prove.
Henrique or Tarasenko would be nice but I'm ready to go with this group.
And I didn't even mention Pesce

in my opinion, it’s okay that we did not get Stammer or Marchesseault. If we did so we would not have enough cap to sign Mercer in whom I love a lot much more then one of them who is way older.

McGroarty is still out there. There were those Ross Colton trade rumors. We still require a rightie shot. If Fitz can open up some cap space (maybe throw in one of our 2nds or 3rds next year), we may not be done here.

fitzgerald aquired a top 10 goalie two legit top 4 defensmen completely bolstered the defensive depth so if there is injuries like last season we wont get caved in. and there is still a whole offseason left for trades (bring home coleman and mcgroarty) and we still have tradable prospects and 3 second round picks.

We need a second line forward. Unless you want to try Palat there. We are extremely thin at forwards.

Woulda liked him a little cheaper (maybe 3-400k) but it is what it is he should be solid depth.
@devilsarebeastly Cheaper is always better, but I am sure there were some other teams with an eye on him. Happy to get him here to help this club become mentally and physically tougher!

@DreWhite100 I wouldn't be shocked if we give Cotter an audition on the 3rd line. The Devils and Fitz are SUPER high on him. He can play center and wing. We may see him shuffled around a lot before he finds a permanent home.
Right now cotter is penciled in between lazar and Noesen with Big Mac interchanging for games. The hit machine

So not hating on the moves today or anything, (could be better, could be worse) but i just wanted to clarify: We were going for a top 6 NHL forward, not minor leagues or AHL, right? Just feels like everything else was checking boxes. And retaining Mercer is not gaining a top 6, so that doesn't count.

Sanity verified. I think alot of us were thinking the top end of that 6, but we do seem to be better balanced overall so it may just be reality settling in that sexy and flashy doesn't always get the job done. This is a VERY different team than last season.
does not appear Tom Fitzgerald will speak with the media today, which leads me to believe the #NJDevils are not done. Guessing he has shifted his attention to the trade market, but we shall see.

okay i know that i don't know the most about cap space and all, but the biggest thing for me is the fact that we are paying ondrej palat SO MUCH MONEY (isn't it like 6 mil???) for him to be doing literally nothing on the third/fourth line. if we're still looking to get a top forward, pls get rid of him. he does nothing IMO. however i agree noesen is a good move by fitz
@sammy-b1r We can only hope for a big year from him. His $6M contract is going to be extremely difficult to move without getting super creative. I hope he steps up this year and produces more than he has. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!
Supposedly we got sniped on Marchessault in a similar way to Johnny Gaudreau. Stammer for $8 million just can't be justified for the Devils but it was disappointing, none the less.
I am hoping that Mercer gets a low bridge deal to prove it in the $3.5million range. Henrique's addition would turn this into a VERY good day. I like the Noesen add and I was pulling for Dillon from the start. Pesce is a bit of a disappointment seeing that he cost more Zadorov.
I believe Pesce and Hamilton will make a great pairing this year. I’m excited!! I’ve always been a fan of Pesci’s game
@michaels7134 I agree across the board. Not getting him is disappointing however you slice it. I would have passed at $8M. I REALLLLLLY would have loved to get Marchessault on that deal. Mercer needs to step up now. Adding Henrique would certainly make this day MUCH better IMO. I love Noesen and the defensive moves. I would have MUCH preferred Zadorov over Dillon, especially at only $1M more per season. Overall we are a much better team today! LET'S GO DEVILS!!!

The Metropolitan has got better. Are the Devils one of the four best teams in the division? Watch out for Philadelphia but I think they’re still a few years away.
If we do make the playoffs, this Devil team could go on a run.

Weve also had a lot of success with hughes haula bratt and stuff like that.
Between palat haula and mercer I feel like 2 of those 3 can play top 6 without us being completepy neutered

We didn't really need a top 6 forward because this allows Meier to have top 6 minutes and positioning. we probably got what we needed rather than what we wanted.
@DerektheMotorider Timo being in the Top 6 was never questioned. It was a matter of trying to have a lethal top 2 lines. I don't think we have that quite yet. We will need a BIG season from Mercer. Overall the team is much improved! LET'S GO DEVILS!!!
We absolutely need a top 6 forward. That is a bigger need than all these bottom line & extra defensemen. Fitz failed.

I'm fine with the Noesen move. I have zero interest in seeing Mercer in the top 6. He's not a good player. He isn't bouncing back. I have even less interest in seeing the bank robber Palat in the top 6. Not addressing that need is a huge failure. Massive hole in the lineup. We were promised big game hunting. None of these moves equate to that. Sharangovich would look good here right now. Instead we got that 2025 2nd round pick to look forward to. What a great trade that was.

I think that is the source of many people's frustration/disappointment, including mine initially. The Shara trade was obviously an abomination. We can't go back now. we don't need Stamkos to score goals, the past couple seasons prove that. We're one of the highest scoring teams in the league, we needed defense and goaltending, end of story. We're going to be a great team next year, stop focusing on big names as if, winning free agency = stanley cup.
@mattbarth3205 Stamkos was bringing more than goals. He is a true leader. I think he would have been invaluable to our young group. With that being said, I do love our moves overall. We will be much tougher to score against and much harder to play against. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!

I cannot believe all of you fail to recognize Failgerald absolutely sucks at convincing upper-level players to play in NJ!!! How? Look at all of the players we lost today! His sale pitch must be so poor! No Star wants to play with Nico and Jack? It’s the GM that needs to get this done. He fails at every turn. Now we will wait for four months to see if he can trade for a mediocre, questionable, top-six player. He’s got to go!
@eugenehewitt2917 I was just as disappointed as anyone with failing to get a Top 6. The BIG GAME HUNTING was all talk. That is fine. Overall the team is vastly improved from last season. We are going to be a damn good team. I just had to get over the initial shock of not landing that Top 6 guy. I think we are in great shape heading into next season. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!

He will play way more than that and he is fantastic for the team. Teams NEED players like him and hopefully he is gets 60 starts with the hit machine line. This is a ridiculous post. You win in hockey by beating teams into fear and everyone fears him. Fear to pursue and hustle and continue playing. This team needs ten Big Macs

He is going for another easy “told ya so” if the Devils don’t lift the Cup this coming season.
