How to clean Pufferfish (FAST) - Catch, Clean, Cook

Puffer is the fruit of the sea... Easy to clean and one of the best eating fish in the ocean. Northern puffer can be caught throughout the year in coastal NC but are more prevalent in the colder months, especially early spring. They feed on shrimp, crabs, sandfleas and just about anything so you will probably encounter them at some point. Have fun out there and best of luck!

Shimano Torium 20HG - Shimano Trevala Jigging Rod 6'6" Heavy, Medium Fast
Shimano Stradic 4000 - Fenwick HMG 7", Medium Fast
100 Pound Power Pro, 80 Pound Fluorocarbon Leader
Boil Sand Fleas until red, cool off and then vacuum seal for long lasting freshness.
Catch Mud Crabs under "stuff", below the high tide line (WEAR GLOVES, oyster cuts are nasty). The purple crabs with spots and striped legs are stone crabs and are illegal to possess.
Catch Sea Urchins on pilings and other structure below the high tide line (WEAR GLOVES, the spines are non-venomous but can leave splinters and oyster cuts are nasty), I recommend using a crab net.

Great job, song and all. I love puffer. My older Bud says back in the 70's he caught them there as big as footballs. He been fishin there since he was a kid, the stories he tells are something.

Those puffer are legit awesome to eat, simple to clean, no pin bones to deal with.ome reco....just cut down half way, pinch up and grab the backbone with a pair of pliers. The entire edible meat is then pulled away at that point. White, clean flaky meat. Drumstick of the sea style as others have mentioned..trust me fry it up as is with the backbone it's all good no need to filet it after that..
