      Design wise, he's been on top since the start of empyrion, although some are now equal, and a Japanese player has the most esthetic appealing, imo jrendall is still the best for shop Design.

    One thing for new players to not lose orientation, hold a freshly H menu generated cockpit block and the phantom seat will face the front of the ship. You can reset a block to its default orientation(upright, facing forward, first shape in its selection) by opening your menu and attaching and detaching the item in your hotbar to your cursor - or double left click.

    Updated CV tutorial is very timely. 😎Nice looking ship too
    I just started my first build in a long time..MP CV carrier..which I have wanted for ages.
    Building yourself is definitely satisfying..and gets easier and goes faster with practice. 😁
    I still have basic block handling skills..but I'm learning new ways to get round other limitations 😎 plus all the damn blocks are different!😁
    I follow your build process...figure out what areas you want/ need in the ship, drop the components in, then see if it fits your mental blueprint of what you wanted. Spawn ships you like from the workshop...drop them in a creative session and take them apart..figure out how other builders do stuff....it may not be the way you end up building, but it'll give you ideas.😁
    Overall..have fun...as Spanj says..building and flying around in your own creations is one of the best bits of the game 😁

    A really great video Spanj, very much enjoyed it thanks for posting. There are still lots of people relatively new to the game that are still stuck when it comes to building and this is an amazing tutorial, lots of people myself included right now are probably feeling deeply appreciative. In a multiplayer world at the moment and this video is going to really help my team mates. Going to post it to our discord as it will help them out loads. On a more superficial level got to say you have created a really good looking ship, I think looks wise actually your best to date. it looks amazing and hope to see it on the workshop soon. The only thing I would change is inside I dont think a small constructor is enough, I would take it out and replace it with a large. To get the extra cpu I would replace some of the reverse thrust and perhaps some of the side thrust with small thrusters. These can always of course be changed back to large when she is upgraded to T3. Again though amazing ship mate love it, going to use her in my next game for sure! :)

    Absolutely seconding the "built it yourself and it's much more rewarding" comment. My ships still resemble flying boxes to a point, but they're my ugly boxes and have been exceptionally useful.
    Every ship I build starts looking better and better.

    14:00 I usually leave only the bare minimum when saving the template. I create it with full the equipment, then delete very expensive bits (e.g., CPU extenders T3, biggest thrusters, and stuff like that) Cost less to produce early on in the game, and you can then just slowly fill it in as you progress. Even maybe find most of the stuff on wrecks once you get into the open space.

    my problem is im always worried about min/maxing. i hate having a single redundant block anywhere. basically i end up with a platform with all the needed devices packed in nice and tight then i build a box around it lol. but then i rarely get into much cv combat anyway, i tend to keep the cv away from danger in fear of just losing everything.

    My cousin and I are currently attempting to build a Death Star basically. Complete with a small army's worth of weapons (not quite sure if we can build the nuclear laser cannon) and a warp drive. Because it won't be huge, we can land on planets to refuel or cause chaos. (More of a Geonosian Capital ship than a death star)

    Very good starter CV tutorial!
    Reforged:
    Armor counts no CPU, only mass.
    So you might consider not putting the pentaxid-shield-warp together in the same compartment.
    It also recompenses bigger, more advanced components.
    I wonder about enemy (PVE) targeting preferences!
    It did seem to me that they also prefer the closest turret?
    Watched your PVP tutorial so I know about lag-armor and stuff.

The rest is RNG luck on raid loot. Almost couldn't bring it in. I now need to move on from the moon starter and explore the rest of the system then galaxy. This is a great video for intermediate builders. I echo some of the comments here, with wishing the montage was slower, I could slow it but then I would have to find my own cool montage music lol. One of my gripes with the way things work now with respect to ships is that the block strength (and weight) is modified by block shape. It encourages armoured cube ships as you get more bang for your buck. It cost you the same in mats to build a teeny triangle corner as it does for a full block. It’s not a big deal as you can just use carbon composite for styling I guess. I would like to see any block that is up to around 40% the size of a full cube have the same weight and HP and then anything smaller be left as it is. Just a thought, to encourage fewer vogon construction ships and more stylish stuff.

    Great Teaching Vid Spanj, keep up the good work.This gives a lot of logical and different ways to build a persons first CV. And explains some of the Flight characteristic's a new person to the game really need to know, since all that changed some time ago. many older players that are coming back to the game will also benefit from these Vids. Still wished they would raise the Tier one CPU a bit as it's a bit restrictive on CV's Sv's and HV's especially. The only thing a person has to hold them back is their imagination and of course the physic's of the game.
    You might add in some on Radiation and Heat from some of the equipment that new players would need to know. Or do a small vid of those items spanning, bases and vehicles Love seeing your builds. Though i can't get the Delete function to work for me. So i use a Multitool. Would hope they see to putting in Rotational types of blocks and some more blocks to make rounded shapes.

    I've hardly done any hours into this game. Did a wee bit of co-op, but that didn't last long as the friend I played with didn't continue with it. But when it comes to building ships, I used to play a lot of Avorion. And every ship I built, ended up looking like a flying brick with a wedge for a front end so i knew which way it was supposed to be pointing. I guess having engines at the other end helped!?
    But Avorion didn't have any internal areas. It was all about the exterior.
    This game however, looks to be far more in depth. A sort of cross between Avorion (In the fact that you could build almost any ship and No man's Sky in the fact that you start off on a planet and expand from there.
    I'll have to re-download it and add to the 25 or so hours I've played it and build some more flying bricks 8-))...

  • @DanielJirca

    I would use small thrusters where possible. For a survival CV you don't need 4x M thrusters in front, top and sides.. You can do with 2S and maybe leave some room for the player to add more S thrusters. Also, space requirements for M thrusters are not too different to S, which means that players can easily upgrade S to M.

    • @Spanj
      @Spanj  3 года назад

      It's a good point but, if I'm building with upgrades in mind I will put in the Ms to then replace with smalls at the end of the build, then I know I have the space there to swap them out for Ms when on survival and I can upgrade to T3 but both approaches are valid

    personally I would nerf the storage a bit in favour of keeping that large constructor I haven't played in a while myself but I still like watching videos once you have the large do you still need a small constructor around?

    One of my favorite things to do in this game is grab a ship from the workshop, and build it in survival. I then gut it and rebuild it to suit my needs. There are a lot of great ship designers on the workshop that create exterior hull designs that are amazing, but interior design is bland or sometimes just doesn't make sense. Another issue I often find is bridge design, they design a beautiful ship, but the bridge is an eyesore and doesn't fit the ships design features. I like making a great ship better, but out of respect for the original builder I refuse to upload them to the workshop. They also take me a long time to rebuild since they are being done in survival.

    Amazing tutorial, thank you! Still confused how you upgraded CPU to tier3, cause it was obvious from the start, that t2 wont handle all of this, my 200hours experience are enough to understand it lol You should have at least 20% spare CPU power for the hull at any time. My personal issue is, I don't have native designing skills. Many others have the same issue. It takes ages to design something smooth and with extra details for me... But I'm not so frustrated because of that, because flying bricks are always winning against good looking ships anyway lol
    P.S. A little bit tired of dildo looking ships, do you have any advice on how to build a saucer or something like death star?

    I'd call this video "Tips and trick for building an efficient capital ship"
    Also, hello 60 fps, haven't seen you for a while! 😁

    I dunno if its said in the vid but do i have to build a 2 layer wall around the core with combat steel? Or is 1 block enough

    • @Spanj
      @Spanj  3 года назад +1

      Cores are rarley targeted by the AI, still you want to protect them but generally its better to move them away from things like warp drives and generators where possible and a single block of combat steel or hardened on each side will do fine

    Could you do a video about the mechanics of creative vs survival in relation to building ships, as I find it really confusing? In creative ships appear to ignore mass even when you force it on via the console. Ships will happily lift off from a planet overloaded, then when you bring the same ship in to survival it flys like a wet dog.
    Is there any way to test fly a ship in creative or is it the case that you just have to keep switching back and forth between seperate games?
    I even ran into problems in survival where Ive somehow managed to cheat spawn in a ship which ignores mass in a survival game where mass is on. Im not sure what causes it, but might be something to do with when you are in gm and overload a container beyond its normal capacity from then on the whole ship ignores mass?
    PS. You forgot the landing gear? Can you get out of the boarding ramp when it's on the ground? :P

    • @Spanj
      @Spanj  3 года назад

      Best thing to do is test them in survival with w/v enabled you can then use the console command cm to change it to a creative session, cm again to switch it back so you can test and build in the same game
