In this video I'll talk through the very fast process of creating this mock car commercial in Blender 3D. The video here is presented in a moderate 2x timelapse with talkthrough. Feel free to slow down the video by half speed if you want to catch all the action in real time.

Yeah something about the scale and maybe camera settings makes it look like a miniature, the materials look plastic-y as well.
Maybe because of the background blur !
The structure is there, all you have to do is scale it differently and change the material settings to make it more realistic

I noticed that too. If I were to venture a guess, I’d say it’s because of the shallow depth of field and the lack of objects to compare the scale of the truck. You can’t tell how large or small the rocks are supposed to be behind or in front of the truck. Perhaps adding trees and grass in the scene could help the sense of scale.

I agree with the others, overdone DOF will cause this and I definitely overdid it :)
If you turn on experimental and use GPU you can use adaptive subdivision which works amazing for what you are trying to do with the floor

Yeah I need to play more with that. Always makes things so slow but I can probably reduce resolution/pixel size thingy

F stop is too low, it looks like a toy because the DoF too shallow
It's a tricky thing dealing with DOF in CGI.
I LOVE this kind of tutorial format so thank you from a Blender newb who is still learning.
But always, with tutorials, one needs be ruthlessly honest about the results.
If someone titles their tutorial "How to make [X] Look Photorealistic" and the subject , er well doesn't look so realistic, then there can still be plenty of value to the tutorial which is imparting technique but sometimes a title doesn't quite match the result intended.
I have actually worked on some truck commercials. And I enjoyed your "truck ad" voice (kinda Sam Elliot) but something about the level of and schedule of blur to both foreground and background elements + the deep BG plate/magnified blurry forest image all conspires to make it look like a "realistic" miniature with larger vehicle dynamics to me.

have you thought about projecting the wheel bones to the floor and have an automatic dynamic up and down animation?
I have heard of this method and for a more dynamic/friendly setup this would definitely be the way!

Don't know why, but Unity or Unreal Realtime render would look better than this. The scene is just messed up with DOF and bad lighting

Relativ Basic Awesome Derek! As usual ! Love your tutorials!! Would be grate if you can do some tutorial where the move of lights makes object animated. Can you may be explain what digits to use in blender to get realistic light 💡 effect. Power of light converters into Kelvin or something like that you know 😀
