I don’t oppose to trees being cut down to build useful houses but I felt sad watching this big tree being cut up for a dining table no matter how beautifully it turned out to be. This old gorgeous tree was healthy and it belonged to the forest.
In my country Indonesia, we have a large number of people doing similar jobs in making solid wooden tables. Difference is the workers use their bare hands (no gloves, no masks), and the only machine used is an outdated chainsaw. The finished product usually cost less than $150 if bought directly. And usually includes free delivery within the Java island
It depends, I've harvested White Oak in Canada, OLD growth from my land in which the limbs have cracked from storms etc and before the ants get in I harvest. I wouldn't take a perfectly healthy Old Growth, but and unfortunately these are more than likely healthy....
