IMO he is at least as good as Lennon or McCartney, maybe better. And I am a lifelong Beatles fan saying this. No idea why NF/Crowded House is not more widely known, the music is excellent.
Neil Finn is just a songwriting god. Crowded house will always be my favourite band, and the Finn family as a whole are such a creative force. This song really pulls on my emotions 💙
A couple of people have said this and I'm a bit confused - that's Elroy Finn, the drummer, acting as his grandfather, but maybe I'm missing something else?
Strangely this was one of the last songs from Gravity to truly grab me, and now it’s probably my absolute favourite - a contender for my top 10 Neil Finn songs of all time ❤
My fave track from the new album. This is when Neil rises out from the normal song writers of the world to produce something very special. Beautifully done CH. Mr Finn senior would I’m sure be proud.
Absolute standout of a song. Great lyric, great harmonies, just perfect. Nearly 40 years a fan and you still do not disappoint. Thanks for all the great music.
This is one of Crowded House's finest songs - it makes me teary every single time. The minor chords, the melodies, the words, and now the visuals. Pure perfection.
I am the same. The picture of dad, the beautiful Greek touch. The smile of Neil, as his dad ( Elroy) looks on. The beautiful girl. The lush Melodie’s and harmonies. The lyrical poignancy of war and love making things better. The beautiful mind of Neill.Finn. Thank you all so much for the gem of a song and video . Tears and joy …
Crowded House, you made me cry when you performed your 'final concert' at Sydney Opera House all those years ago. I am overjoyed that your are back together making fantastic music once again.❤🎼🎶🎵🎸
A typically beautiful song from CH and the video works great. Having been aware of the songs inspiration it's really nice to see Elroy embodying real life history. ❤
The good thing is that there are still some bands from the 80s and 90s left. These are the real music, deep from the soul. Thanks for it!

When I saw CH in June, Neil said this song was related to his father. During WW2, Neil's father was serving with the New Zealand Regiment (I think) in Italy. Somewhere in Italy, Neil's father and his mates, all enlisted, snuck into an officer's canteen. He met the beautiful daughter of a diplomat, way out of his league, and they had some kind of fling. And later, Neil's father would talk about his fling and it would annoy Neil's mother. :)
@@Roadie-1963I cried buckets when they disbanded back in ‘96 and bought the Farewell to the World DVD as a reminder of the gigs I wished I’d been to but didn’t make. Cried more buckets when I got to see them in Manchester at the intimate Castlefield Bowl in June ‘22. They played this, along with a zillion of their more well known gems. The song has so much space in which we can all find our own meaning and message. A true work of art.
When people are young, they get to fall deeply in love ONE TIME. That's what this songs about. That one true time where your heart is open and exposed and beats to the same rhythm as one other person. Never to be repeated.
Absolutely beautiful ❤ How can one song wrap an entire lifetime in its arms and offer it up, in all its timeless vulnerability? I think this heart just got broken again ❤
Holy smokes! That photo of Richard Finn at the very beginning - at first I thought it was on old photo of Tim! What a beautiful song - I first heard this when I saw CH in Atlanta in August. Such a wonderful tribute from Neil to his Dad - makes me a bit teary eyed, as my grandfather is no longer with us (he was also in WW II). So nice that Neil is performing this song with his sons as part of the band. This song is a great example of why Neil continues to be my favorite songwriter of all time - he somehow manages to pull all of your emotions out of you with his music. I don't know where this all comes from, his music just keeps getting better.
Wow. A timeless classic. Musically, visually and vocally. Really feels like it takes you by the hand from the opening bars, holds you right through to the very end, and then it doesn’t seem to end, like a perfect love. This is special. What a band. What a songwriter.
I've been getting into a Split Enz rabbit hole recently. I was aware that Neil and Tim had this band before Crowded House, and that they were celebrated down in the Southern hemisphere, but it had passed me by how brilliant and oddball they actually were. How they made the most memorable songs out of the wildest of chord progressions. Of course I love the current incarnation of Crowded House, too. I'm saying this because there may be more out there, who were, like me, a little oblivious to the magic of Split Enz. I can only advise you to seek out their videos. Their discography is back on Spotify and itunes and you can find many videos re-uploaded on youtube.
So happy to see this post (forgive my grammar, very old crappy keyboard) in college I was the oddball as I did an entire paper and presentation on "Dirty Creature", some in the class liked it (I think) I got people to talk about their biggest fears but in an anonymous way. I got to see Neil perform this at a free concert in San Fran shortly thereafter, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!
@Neilfinn420 I'm grand, thanks for asking, especially after listening to your magnificent and feel good songs. You guys are like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day and so very good for the soul. Enjoy your day Neil ❤️❤️ from a very cold and foggy Ireland 😄😄
A beautiful story of two in love, meaningful in so many ways.Finn you've done it again.Thankyou for the many songs you have written.Great harmony and to hear every word in this song .
A beautiful video with an even more beautiful song, a perfect match for a standout from Gravity Stairs that I listen to on repeat about 5 times when I hear it. It has such atmosphere with the Bouzuki lead in and tone of desperation and desire throughout 👍😎
Tim actually did not write any of these, as was nowhere near the band at the times of writing. He was only in crowded house for a year or two (1990-1991), writing only for Woodface.
I was watching you guys playing on A T.V. show or maybe a Raido Station..Yesterday yall were great & Liam & Elroy with you guys.. But who's the guy with the Hair bun & earrings ✨️ I Like him💝✌️😎 The show was very entertaining.. Thanks for bumping Liam up to playing & Singing with you. He's got A Beautiful Voice🎤😎🎸🎶
Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Unfortunately not at the Cavern, as my late mum and dad went there back in the day, but have seen you in some great places over the years.
I'd put Noel Gallagher up there as well. Equally happy getting lost in Neil or Noel's music. I also think they are consistently better than any of the Beatles (yes i know this might be considered heresy, but don't bother arguing, cos I'm right)

Neil Finn is one of the best songwriters since The Beatles. He should be a household name but sadly many people have no idea when you say his name.
Agree..Always thought, they could take it up to the Beatles..
Dunno, I reckon Chad Morgan was a bit better...
I do. Love him.
@@sampreece Sure they did.

I adore this song and the beautiful story behind it. Also, the first photo of Mr. Finn-absolutely stunning how much Tim looks like his dad. 💖
A couple of people have said this and I'm a bit confused - that's Elroy Finn, the drummer, acting as his grandfather, but maybe I'm missing something else?
thats Elroy , Neils boy but a Finn none the less
Tim would be a bit old now to play the young Mr. Finn.
Elroy looks the part...dead ringer!
i probably wouldn’t have found this song had not it said it was for claire. now it’s one of my favorites 😂
No surprise the best track by Crowded House for years!! Co- written and performed with Tim! Just the best partnership ever!!!!

Great story. I was hoping this was the story of his mom and dad. :)
I’m envious you got to hear this song live. I’m sure there wasn’t a dry eye afterward.
Thank you so much for the back story. Great songs always contain more than we hear
