not bad! you could also add a vacuum port to skip hand pumping, especially for larger vehicles like what Farmcraft101 is doing. (I recommend sending him the video too)
This is one of the WORST IDEAS ON THE WEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will never NEVER get all of the old oil out. Now you are mixing OLD oil with new oil. Now does that REALLY make GOOD since??????????????????????
I love how you made this and it's beautifull! Nevertheless, indeed you should drain the oil from the bottom to have the best chance at removing all included tiny metal shaving. However, you could definitaly use it to aid in removing excess brake fluid or other fluids from there reservoirs when flushing or emptying.
Magnífico proyecto muy bien desarrollado y mejor ejecutado, un buen trabajo maestro, gracias por compartir tanto ingenió y conocimientos, un cordial saludo y por supuesto un merecido like desde Narón (Galicia)👍🤓😜
I love this channel but was somewhat shocked to see the state of the engine bay given how tidy he keeps the workshop!😂 I also would change the filter & using suction you never get all the contaminants out, which you do with using the sump drain. I guess if you change your oil more regularly than the specification & the filter on time, then this is fine. I do this for my MGB, oil is a lot cheaper and more convenient to change than an engine & 20/50 & old technology isn’t as good as modern engines & oil.
I think this is a great idea for other liquids, but not for engine oil. Might work better for more viscous liquids or very hard to reach areas elsewhere. I doubt that Honda had a oil sump capacity of just 2.5 liters. I used one of these 12V electric pumps the same way on my car, then proceeded to empty the sump the normal way and there was still some oil left in there. So this doesn't get it all out though and it just takes so long, way longer than just draining the sump by removing the plug the normal way.
This is a video about how to create a pump to remove oil, it's not about how to properly service a car ... I really don't understand people who are negative and criticise the slightest thing, instead of concentrating on the actual content of the video!!! Another great video sir, the only suggestion I'd make is to glue the wood to the lid rather than the rim of the glass, that way you could remove the top easily if required 👍
This is one of the absolute only guys I've seen mix epoxy correctly, everyone else uses a block of wood or cardboard or something else porous and absorbent. He used a block of wood but taped it, maybe to make the mixing block easier to use, best thing ever? A Pringles can lid
I've used a lid from an old quart paint can that was getting thrown out. Just wipe it clean before the epoxy hardens, and it's reusable for many years.
You are a true wizard of wood and invention of things but I think I will stick to just draining from the bottom of the car on this one! Regardless great video my friend! I’m sure there are many other ways to use this suction device!
I just want to point out that while some new European cars are designed to be syphon changed, and most of them have the oil filter towards the top of the engine too, most cars are not designed have the oil changed this way, as you can see by the amount of oil in the container at the end, there would still be more in the sump.
I have been using this method for a long time. . But I don't glue the lid. I just put in a rubber gasket. Vacuum securely presses it. I create a vacuum with an air compressor by connecting the hose to its inlet.
neat application, but taking out the oil and putting new in is only half of the process of an oil change. it's really important to also change the oil filter as well. it's a rule of auto mechanics, and for good reason. you change the oil, you change the filter. also there's a reason they made a drain plug in the oil pan - because it is far more efficient and thorough to empty out a container from the lowest point in the system. better chance of getting all the contaminants out too, if you're changing the oil cold (which generally isn't recommended. most mechanics will tell you its better to run your vehicle for a few minutes to warm up the oil a little and get any particles and contaminants that may have settled overnight resuspended in the oil.)
You do realize that every Mercedes is exclusively a top side oil change? VWs have been doing it this way since the late 90s. This has been debated for at least 20 years, oil extraction via the dipstick tube is just as effective at removing any particulate than via the drain plug.
@@otm646 They'll catch up. It's hard for old goats to accept new ways of doing things. Some of them are auto techs, and make their living changing oil.
You could probably start the suction with a good shop vac also I would think. Although, as some have pointed out, you won't be able to get the sludge with the metal shavings out of the very bottom with that method. Thumbs up anyway though👍
This would be so much easier if there were some kind of bolt in the bottom of the engine that could be easily removed to drain the oil. Then, while you’re down there, you could catch the oil in a pan and use that same pan to catch the oil from the filter.
Cheaper to just replace your drain plug with a remote oil drain kit. Or a manual quick drain plug. Drawing oil out does not remove enough of the old oil.
I use something similar to change the oil on the lawnmowers and the gearbox oil on the milling machine as they are difficult to get to but I don't think I would use it on the car.
I was going to suggest the same thing - great for draining oil from say a lawn mower or snow blower, so no tipping the mower. And draining gas from a lawn tractor for winterizing. Great idea!
Standard features of vacuum devices would include a tube going from the inlet to the bottom to reduce splashing, and to allow for draining the device by reversal of the vacuum. The second feature is a baffle to prevent contaminants from entering the vacuum assembly from slosh. The third is a magnet for iron particles. You are going to normally see water, and sometimes coolant enter the reservoir, all of which will separate themselves due to immiscibility and density.
Very intresting construction. But a glassbottle at hard concret can break and gives a great pollution? As an improvement, I suggest lengthening the hose and inserting a shut-off valve in between. Then you could very well replace the brake fluid.
get a trusted mechanic and they can possibly lift it from the tires rather than the frame, and already have oil disposal logistics, and they can do a quick inspection and maybe catch a problem early, and you can support their business
I could have used this 20 years ago when I was doing my own oil changes. Now, to avoid the mess and exposure to toxic chemicals, I just let the pros do it.
When it comes to hot engine oil because the oil has to be drained when it is hot after the car has been on a run there is the Danger that the glass bottle could implode especially when also combined with a vacuum generated by the suction pump. People with no oil drain sump plug on their car should remove the engine sump for cleaning every 30k miles as it will eventually build up with sludge. When you drain oil out through an engine oil sump plug hole with the engine hot the sludge comes out as well. But pumping out the oil will always leave some sludge behind.
The commercial versions have an overflow float built in them which prevents both a siphon from occurring and overflowing the container spilling on the ground. You don't think that's a useful feature until you make an absolute mess everywhere.
You'll need a stiff hose to run down the dipstick tube so you can feel when it hits the bottom. Looks like he used it on the car. If you just try do do it with vinyl hose, it will curl up when it hits bottom, and you won't be able to feel it due the friction needed to push it down.
And the Filter ? . I put the old oil in the same container it came, and the little spare that remain I put it in an empty oil bottle until it make a charge.
When you doing any oil related operations especially adding it you should pull a dipstick a bit to release the pressure. You're welcome. I love your videos much.
It's an oil disposal kit. The substance in the plastic bag is something absorbent, suited for holding the oil. You can find them in parts stores or online. I remember several years ago that NAPA in the U.S. had something similar, as part of a promotion. It was a cardboard box like this paper bag, with a plastic liner and some green absorbent stuff, and was sold with a 6-pack cardboard carton that contained the oil filter and 5 quarts of oil. This has been many years, because the oil cans were round (the old cardboard tubes with metal ends).
Не маловато ли масла слил? Есть такая приблуда, но ее лучше в комплексе с пробкой использовать. Откачать сколько можно насосом, а потом уже вывернуть пробку с поддона, чтоб слить шмурдяк
For me, as a western European, a shocking way to change oil. The vacuumed stuff probably ends up in the organic waste because of the cotton in the bag. Other countries other manners. Btw. what about the filter? 😦
I was also amazed by that. In The Netherlands we would recycle the used oil, something which becomes very hard to do when the old oil is soaked in cotton. Once it's in the cotton it seems the only option left is to burn it...
I think the idea is to use something that the vacuum won't collapse, as it did the thin plastic bottle at the beginning. Glass is sturdy enough to withstand the outside air pressure pushing in on it.

You only got less than 3 liters out
that's what I was thinking also or... small car, small engine, small amount of oil lol Oh wait big oil filter which he forgot
By doing his method you cannot take out 100% oil out, this method of oil change is not recommended.
Great innovation and workmanship. This however is a variation of the Wangensteen suction kidney machine.
Or you can do it the real easy way and remove the oil pan drain nut and then change your filter.
