I listened to this song with my mom when I was an elementary school kid in 1950's in Taiwan. I sang it along with my mom with energy, happiness, and passion in a really merry mood even we didn't know English at all--We speak Mandarin Chinese there in Taiwan. I still feel the same when I am listening to it now, when I am a retired professor in 2024, and my mom, it's a great pity, cannot sing it along with me anymore due to her suffering from dementia. How much I wish that she could come back to herself again and sing "Oh Carol" with me just for one more time! Thank you very much, Neil Sedaka; your singing "Oh Carol" now is still simply fresh and great! And your fabulous piano performance accompanying this song is also making nobody a "fool" but a "wise folk" to approach music like this kind. Thank David Wonder for your sharing my most-favorite song with my mom! Great songs have no cultural borders at all and are definitely COVID-19 and any kinds of virus free!😃😃😃
How lovely to see this! Thank you! Brings back a lot of memories… I saw him perform live in Las Vegas and Los Angeles and also did an in depth interview with him in Vegas, was right there when he was offered his own million dollar contract at the Riviera Hotel, almost immediately after the hotel called to say that The Carpenters had fired him as their opening act. This was when he was making his comeback in the 70’s and the show was packed because people had come to see Neil, and we in the audience would not stop clapping, asking for encore after encore. Of course, he couldn’t do more than one, because he was just the opening act. (That actually must have really irritated Karen Carpenter, because in the middle of her opening number, she suddenly stopped singing, and snapped, “Oh I know you all prefer Neil, so take Neil!” She threw the mic on the stage and stormed off! It took the audience by surprise, because everyone had happily applauded her entrance. So then, people called her tantrum and started calling for Neil. Then the theatre manager came onstage and apologized somewhat, said Karen wasn’t feeling well, called Neil back for one number, which he kindly did. Then Karen returned and behaved herself. All this for one of the most mild-mannered celebrities I ever interviewed!) At any rate, Neil was amazing during the interview and continued with it, even with the interruptions. He was the artist, and his wife, Lieba, handled the business aspects. The only thing he asked of me was not to put out the information until the deal was settled and announced. That was no problem for me, since the article was for an overseas movie gazette like Variety, and it wasn’t going to be published for a couple of months. Neil and his wife were charming, generous with Neil’s time, no airs, just regular people - and so much talent! During Covid he was live streaming daily from their apartment in NY, singing tons of songs that he had written, that were never released. So much talent - he surely is a pop icon in his own right! Wishing him continued success, health and happiness!

So many do not know that Mr. Sedaka is also a trained and accomplished classical pianist. No wonder he can play anything in any key. This performance brought tears to my eyes. The audience's reactions to him say it all. A phenomenal human being and true artist.
I really wish, praying to God, that I could meet Mr. Neil Sedaka, my admired singer and the trained and accomplished classical pianist, in 2024 and sing this song with him together! ^^ Peter 彥豪@Taiwan
Is it not painful to recall the good old years, the People we loved, those who are gone and will never come back ! Memories are made of these. Special thought to Dean Martin. Blessings always.
Happy 83rd Birthday Neil. Born March 13, 1939 Brooklyn NY. At 8 years old he attended Juilliard School of Music for children. First hit "Calendar Girl" at 22. He wrote "Love will keep us together". Which Captian & Tennille had a hit with. Such a taleneted man. Many more Neil.. Cheers !
There's never been anyone else like Mr. Neil Sedaka! The talent and ability he has to create these seemingly simple yet perfectly balanced and flawlessly crafted pop songs and then perform them with this infectious positive energy, is absolutely unique... A national treasure!
