Paul records song for his fans, not the public. He understands that fame is attached to youth and sex appeal, so there is no point triying to reach young people. He already has a loyal fanbase
Seven decades of being a living legend and counting. Still going strong, still writing gems. Possibly the most influential being in my lifetime and most likely beyond.
Flaming Pie was a great album. As was Band on the Run, Venus and Mars, Tug of War, Flowers in the Dirt, etc. Those who denigrate his post Beatles output just aren't listening
Hello! My name is Anatol. In 1964, when I was only 13 I heard THE Beatles. And I said to myself: I HAVE to learn English! And I did! Now I am a professional enterpeter and translater of the English language! Thanks to THE FAB FOUR!!! And many happy returns to Sir Paul for HIS 80th Anniversary!!! THE BEATLES are FOREVER!!!
@Ardro Tokes, would have casually went up to him to make sure (why wonder and lose a chance of a lifetime like that) and said I know you're Paul. If yes, I would have made sure to get his autograph, and if possible, a pic with him. 😃❤
@@drewwoods167 , never said it was about me, and for you to insinuate that, please. It would have just been an autograph and possible pic if it were me. Then I'd leave him alone by being on my way to wherever I'm going. Wouldn't have taken up much of his time at all. ...and see you've intruded on me and my comment, have a great day.
-- 'Sir Paul, what's your primary instrument?' -- Paul McCartney: Yes. In awe of this man's talent. He can play almost any instrument, is one of the greatest songwriters ever and has one of the sweetest voices in music. The quintessential musician.
Paul said in an interview that he deliberately does not play any wind instruments because that would interfere with his singing. He probably realized this when John was singing 'Love me do' while also playing the harmonica parts of the song. He could not come in time for the instrumental hook line. The genius George Martin asked Paul to come in to sing the part so that John could come in time with the harmonica. This simple tweak resulted in creation of history.
@@diffbreak2366 Just referencing this: ruclips.net/video/AmsnehPa8G0/видео.html He's trying to play, "When the Saints Go Marching...." I think he does a bloody good job of it. I understand your point (and I don't mean to seem, abrasive) but Paul was well able to keep time playing wind. John had chops on the mouth organ and Paul knew what he was doing on the bass. It worked well. That's not to say Paul couldn't play the harmonica, Paul is as much a musical genius as John was (and tbh, more musical than John, even if their songs were equal, albeit different), Paul gives song to diamond-esque, rhythmically binding ideas, whereas John turns unfnished daydeamy material into odysseys, though he relies on other parties to make his music sing -- with his seal of approval). Neither is better than the other (though Paul is unquestionably the more musical of the two. They were perfect together: unvarnished purity (Paul) and heady, broken cynicism (John). Both (either John or Paul) could write a hook to make a miser cry. The fac thatt they ended up together is the luck of the world.
@@diffbreak2366 You are correct - playing a wind instrument definitely would interfere with his singing. Did you know that his dad bought him a trumpet for his 14th birthday, but he realized he couldn't sing at the same time (like with a piano - which he also learned to play at young age) so he traded in the trumpet for an Epiphone Zenith guitar. And, as they say, the rest is history. I can't post the picture, but check out this link for a photo of Paul and John circa 1957. equipboard.com/pros/paul-mccartney/epiphone-zenith-model-17
There is actually and interview with Paul that I watched back in 1997 when he was promoting this album and he said "When I wrote the line 'I Go Back So Far, I'm In Front Of Me', I can actually picture John saying to me " I really like that one!" so I kept it in there making me think of John!"
I am a huge McCartney fan but somehow never heard this song. Wow. I like it. Wikipedia says that there are only two musicians on this song. Paul McCartney and Jeff Lynne. WOW!!! Two incredibly talented musicians. Paul McCartney - lead and harmony vocals, bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, drums, percussion Jeff Lynne - harmony vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards
