I did this mod to my gamecube last year, and it’s probably my favorite console mod ever. Being able to play my entire collection without worrying about putting any unnecessary where in tear on my income selection is great. I would also recommend the laser bear industries 3-D printed insert for this mod. It fills in the space where the optical drive used to be and makes it look a lot cleaner
Really happy there's no soldering involved. That's what always holds me back from trying out mods like this. Will definitely get in on this. Great vid as always!
Thank you so much, for bringing this product to light. I went and ordered one, a few days ago. It came in today, so I followed the instructions and tutorial in this video and boom, it works. I get to play my old Gamecube games, once again. Several years ago, I lost my entire Gamecube collection to a fire. I wanted to repurchase my collection through Ebay, but Gamecube games have gotten expensive. So now with this MOD, I can enjoy my old games once again.
Just did this mod to my GameCube a month or two ago. Super awesome. I used Swiss to use my Gameboy player. I also used this cool 3D printed extension mount. Basically connects to the GC loader with a SD card Extender wire, and fills in the space the optical drive took up. Allows you to swap Sd cards if you use multiple of them which is nice plus it looks good for the overall esthetic
I would also recommend adding an SD2SP card adapter to this setup. They’re inexpensive and allow for more storage as well as improving how saving works
There's a new ODE coming for the GameCube that utilizes the Serial Port 1 (which will allow you to preserve the original optical drive) and will use M.2 SSD drives instead of SD cards.
Yo, gc loader restocks are coming fairly soon. A video on Swiss and some additional software like snes9x and Gameboy interface would be a good watch. Keep up the great work!
The console modding community is just incredible. Really. Like, holy heck this is so cool. My disk drive works fine but i'm definitely going to get this when they're back in stock. Thanks for spotlighting stuff like this Tito
It'll be nice to see your GC continue to be upgraded. A super quiet fan and laser bear's 3D printed maybe? With the GBP you can choose different dol settings as well. Carby to use HDMI is the easiest plug and play for better video quality.
Dude! You have a really nice content, the editing, information and organization of your videos is superb. I dont' understand why do you have so few subscribers. Love your videos!!
I’m glad you made this video I picked up a GameCube months ago for 10 dollars because the drive was bad. I’ve been waiting for someone to make a decent video on this mod and I’m glad you did because now I feel much better doing this.
I did this to my gamecube couple months ago and the only reason I did it was because my disc drive just stopped reading discs. I didn't know what to really do it sucked cause I didn't want to just sell it and I discovered the GC loader which isn't much more than a replacement drive. Well worth it and has nice features.
Great video. I don't think you mentioned the gbi or Gameboy interface homebrew that enables people with a Gameboy player to use it without the startup disc. And also the SD card mount from laserbear. 2 essentials.
@@MachoNachoProductions Something else you may want to consider, at least for now the gcloader can't write to its sd card, so if you want to save any settings in swiss you will need an sd gecko or sd2sp2 and a small sd card (this would also allow use of swiss virtual memory cards so you could save all your games to the sd gecko/sd2sp2 and not need to manage multiple memory cards), although they are working on adding support for writing to the gcloader's sd card. That may also allow saving games to the gcloader sd card
One more HUGE detail we have to mention: If you dont have a SD2SP2 or a SDGecko Memory card with a small SD card in it, Swiss will not save settings. This is a limitation of the GCLoader and Swiss as it can't write back to the SD card in the GCloader. So all of the patches, settings, etc get lost. So invest in a SD2SP2, and drop a small 4gb card in it.
After modding multiple GameCubes, I noticed they have different style Fan Mounts. @6:54 you can see yours is the open version. When the Optical Drive is removed, there is nothing blocking the fan from sucking open air from above the shielding. There are "Closed" style fan mounts with only a little hole in the middle. Regardless, you need to block this off when you're done. I did some testing without the spot blocked and the temps after gameplay were 46-50C. When you tape over/block the open area your CPU/GPU temps will go down to 42/46C in Swiss. Cheers
You can also use the Wind Waker save exploit to launch into Swiss, and use the SD2SP2 which (imo) works perfectly fine. You also get to keep disc drive functionality this way instead of needing a second GameCube to play your discs. I can't get behind ODEs as full replacements for a disc drive. But if you can add it in addition to the disc drive? Absolutely go for it.
@@Meepok1 Why would I need a second GameCube to play my discs when I can rip my discs and play them on the superior GC Loader? The entire point is to get rid of discs, and the associated noisy disc drives that will fail one day.

This is the gamecube classic I've wanted since they did the nes and snes classics.
I personally added a Modchip, Sd2SP2 and I added a NTSCU to NTSCJ switch to my Yellow Spice GameCube. With a Swiss DVD boot. So now I can play discs or ISO files. Small details I did was change all the japanese stickers to the american ones.
Ya kinda need this these days. GC games have really shot up in value. Heck I price charted Re2. It's over $100 now. Not letting mine go any time soon though.
Great video. Didn't realize it was that easy.
Basically the equivalent of gdemu on the dreamcast. Very awesome
I absolutely need to do this. This is great, thanks for the tutorial
You’re welcome 😊
Please do a video on Swiss! Also one how you can use it to play the gameboy player without the bootdisk!
Great video! Quick question, does the GC loader work on a US Gamecube console with the 'Analog" connection only on the back? I'm asking because my console doesn't have the digital connection.
Thank you.
Awesome work! Very simple!
Thank you Sojan, Cheers buddy!
An awesome follow up would be adding the GBI software and the GC Dual!
great video
should add instructions on setting up igr.dol in Swiss, and also using NKit to shrink the ISOs
