That would be a really nice truck here in CT, it reminds me of my brothers old 4x4 64 dodge

Floyd, I own a few of these truck and with the bed in the shape it is and being a long bed I would defiantly let its parts live on by fixing your truck!
A good parts truck is worth its weight in gold when trying to put one back together! Good Luck Brother!

Well, since the paint was fire damaged and it was in bad shape before the fire, you can do something really custom like. You mentioned upgrades. Since you are basically customizing it anyway, you can mix in some 21st century items like some electronics, led headlamps, etc. The engine looks like it came through the fire okay, but a good take down and cleanup would be a good idea, just to make sure that there is no unseen damage (I doubt that there is, though). You're lucky that that keg/fuel tank didn't blow in the fire. While you are at all this work in repairs and upgrades, you can also EMP proof your truck as well. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your progress.

This truck is too cool not to save also, Gas Monkey Garage redid one of these a few years ago and it turned out awsome!!

You do what you gotta do brother but that old girl would never be a donor out here in Va or back home in Texas. That bed looks like it sat with a couple inches of hay in the corners, add a little manure and some occasional rain and snow and alot of them seem to do that. If I'd gotten my hands on that one it would already have the bed off getting ready to get turned into a shorty, lol. That color's about the best possible choice for these dont you think?

yeah, by far my favorite color, my 68 short bed was turqoise as well and a perfect patina truck before the fire, so I know I'm going to take apart a good truck, but it'll rebuild a even better truck

@@floyds.mayhem.garageI know, save what you take off your '68 and sell it to me with the leftovers from this one! I promise to make a truck out of it again. Full speed ahead! We're all looking forward to seeing your truck back making smoke

Personally I would still be looking for a parts truck! I can't help myself when it comes to fixing up a car of mine, As soon as I get it I start looking for for a parts car just like it and every time I end up with another one that's worth putting back together! Years ago I wanted a 64 GTO convertible and being an 18 year old that just got married and bought a house I did what every gear headed young man does! I went out and bought/traded for a beat up on three corners out of four with a shredded top and interior and an engine that was definitely due for a rebuild! I made the and deal had the title in my name before I told my wife! Then I started looking for parts cars and before long I had three 64 GTO convertibles that I could restore if I could just find a parts car! then I started looking for 65 GTO'S because a lot of parts were interchangable with 64 and I found 3 65 hardtops that were junk and cut the trunk floors and front floor sections as needed for my ''parts"' cars! Every time to this day when I buy a car I start looking for "A parts car!" I got a good deal on a nice 78 Thunderbird a while back and I started looking for a parts car and I ended up with a 75 Ford Elite because a lot of parts interchange! Which led to me buying another Thunderbird for parts! I never bought just one car, It's at least three!

I'd build that truck up. And have 2. I have a 63 D100, I love the dual headlights.

I drive a 89 d100 long bed and I've been thinking about shortening the frame and short bedding it? I'm looking for a 440 to build, maybe 383 but definitely big block! Then lower it a little just enough to make it look a little better! Also would love to make it a 4spd but who wouldn't lol! I think if it were mine I'd build this truck and have two nice swept line trucks. Its definitely your call but that's my opinion!

Yes the early grills are the best. Mines an early 65 short bed.

Dumb question, how is the yard all dirt with nothing growing? My goats have a full time job eating everything that grows in my field, something different grows every year

    • @floyds.mayhem.garage

depending on where you live, things grow differently. it never seems to grow super well here in colorado, and then it's also been very dry with almost no moisture, so it's been extra dead so far this year
