I love Boss pedals so to me both pedals sounds great but I prefer the dd-20 just because is built like a tank and time has proven that noting can kill it. Great video thanks!
Dude! I have the DD 20 on my rig at the moment; I've been waiting on a video about these two to compare, and I think you have just given me the right amount of convincing - you even used the warp sound I never use but always have at the ready in a gig, so thanks for that. Also seeing you hold them up together really showed how much less real estate the 200 will take on my board. Great video buddy Cheers :)
@@antiheartahaha im here searching for exactly this so thx for your comment… Used to use a dd-20 on my vocals and LOVED the warp effect for that, but it got stolen. now thinkin of upgrading to dd-200 but gotta have that WARP magic :)
Great Video! The DD200 sounds much thinner but that could be due to the fact that the E. Level was at 12 o clock while on the dd20 you had it maxed out. Does the DD200 still sound thin with the levels matched?
Late reaction I know, but the DD200 does sound a lot thinner than the DD20. I've had them both at the same time. I was so happy when the DD200 came out because I was using the DD20 for 10 years and loved it, so when there was finally a upgrade I just had to buy it. But the DD200 sounded a lot thinner and sterile and the E level is just useless at more than 50% so I sold the DD200 soon after.
I liked DD-200 more. It has more natural analog and tape modes. Analog modes on DD-20 and on DD-7 sound like just darkened standard mode while DD-200 has distortion tails like on real analog BBD delays.
I opted for the DD-20 over the DD-500 on my board for the ease of interface as well as the 9v power jack. But now the DD-20 offers both of those things in a smaller form factor. I may or may not use the new features but it’s looking like a direct upgrade so it’s tempting.
The DD200 is tempting, but I love my DD20. I only wish I could set the delay time for the second tape head. Never used the dual delay enough for its limitations to bother me.
Probably not relevant but, Viewed Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton and Carl Perkins perform a tune together recently! ( It was your 60's riff that formed that image!) Thanks for sharing brother! Be Well Leon!
The Timebender does funky pitch stuff if you want that option BUT the big drawback is it needs a dedicated AC power supply, whereas these two run on most "normal" pedal power supplies.
@@LeonTodd thanks for getting back with me leon I think I'm going to go with the boss . I would really like to go with one of the free the tone pedals its just way out of my budget . All I really need a delay for is some slap back and floyd type sounds .
The parameter knob on the dd200 controls the delay attack on the standard setting, with it all the way down the delay has a normal instant attack. Hope this helps! The parameter knob does something different for each delay, like for drum mode it controls the amount of playback heads and the combination.
The dd-20 is a killer bypass tone. That thing bleed like a hell. Every DD20 I've play had that bleeding noise in bypass, so I don't trust in dd-500 or dd-200. I prefer my old dd-3.
Stay away from the DD 200!!! This is built like cheap junk. The item was internally defective and unusable after 5 months and Roland won't support the warranty claim. Not up to old Boss standards of quality by any means. The DD-20 is far better built.
Could you enlighten me on what exactly was defective in the unit? Is this a defect that is in most units of dd200? I've been planning out my pedalboard and have been eyeing this for awhile now.
After very light use the pots started changing values on their own, randomly. It made the pedal unusable. I used a light spray of deoxit to try and clean the pots, which didn't work. When I sent the pedal back in, it took three weeks just to hear that they received the pedal, and they claimed that the deoxit was what damaged it. Total BS.
DD20 sounds HORRIBLE on Tape mode. Proof? Got to 6:23s mark. It sounds super artificial, as though you're playing in a metal tube. DD200 is much cleaner/tighter.
The dd200 seems to be built for those who already completely understand the dd20. It is useless for a beginner in the dd world. I prefer to use something that I can at least somewhat understand (dd20). Seems Boss got lazy and cheap with the dd200, wanting it to be as cheap to produce as possible. Could they not have released a dd20 style pedal with all the extras? So that at least people would have some idea of wtf they are doing with it? You shouldn't have to spend loads of time trying to learn how to operate a guitar foot fedal.
As much as this guy passively decries the DD-20 it is still a more robust unit than this new version. Also not convinced he knows much about tone from listening to his examples.
I love Boss pedals so to me both pedals sounds great but I prefer the dd-20 just because is built like a tank and time has proven that noting can kill it. Great video thanks!
Great comparison! Love the riffs you demoed in Standard and Analog comparisons.
I still have a dd20 i got almost 10 years ago. I also got a dd200 a few months ago. Both are fabulous
hello, please help me, is it posible to have 2 delays in this pedal? 1 delay with 1/4 note, and other with dotted eight?? please help me
I had a DD-20 but i just found it too muddy. DD-200 has more options and sounds more transparant in my opinion.

My pleasure. The warp feature is so fun for live use!
Get a bigger board hahahahaha
The DD20 has aged well.
Ok so yesterday i had the opportunity to test both of this side by side.
I strongly prefer dd20 then dd200 eventho the old unit have limited use case.
My DD 20 more then 11 years on the pedal board and it s gonna stay there.
Great review mate. Like you I'm a huge dd20 fan and was hoping you would do a compare. The only downside is now I've got to go get a dd200.
The echorec mode is worth it alone IMO, so good
@@LeonTodd😂
All the guitar sounds nice and stereo but your voice is pan almost hard left... why? -_-?
I am thinking of switching from the dd-20 to dd-200, BUT i love the warp effect.... Does the 200 have some kind of momentary swell function as well?
Nevermind, just got to the part in the video where you explained it. Haha. And SOLD

The effect level on the dd20 doesn't do 100% wet, setting it full gives a 50/50 delay to dry signal ratio.
Leon Todd Oh I see! Do you know if there is a gain/boost function with every delay in the dd200?

great video. thanks for posting.
DD-20 just sounds more musical for everything. The features of the DD-200 are nice but what’s the point if it’s not inspiring.
Read your manual for the 20. You can add modulation.
I found that reading the manuals for my pedals has helped me half my pedal collection. I highly recommend reading the manual!!!
@@telecasterman18 I WAS WRONG! I looked and you were right about that.😃

Can I play the Brighton Rock Solo double delay with only the DD200?

BOSSDD 200 MAX TIME DELAY: 60 SEC ITS TRUE?
they both look sick but i think i prefer the DD200!
@LeonTodd what is the maximum delay time for a preset on the dd 200? Thanks
Good comparison, thanks. :)

200 looks like a best of both worlds for your setup - smaller but with the expanded tonal options.
awesome comparison, thanks man.
