    9:43 just because your testosterone "shoots up under stress" doesn't mean: a) Testosterone production is increased for a duration that has a meaningful and positive impact on training outcome in the long run. It's the same with sauna. Yes sauna raises growth hormone levels alot but it's a stress response to reduce the catabolic effect the stress itself causes. b) If stress is the cause for a rise in testosterone other hormones especially cortisol as the stress hormone are likely to rise as well.
    Supramaximal load can actually impact growth and recovery response in a negative way through an increase in calcium influx and CNS overstimulation. A temporary strength increase might be related to CNS stimulation but doing more is not the most athletic way to think about resources especially in relation to recovery let alone the danger of going even heavier than your 1 RM.

      You must not know Cal or his athletes. I challenge you to dig deeper into his work...it’ll probably take a year or two to fully grasp the full picture with the understanding he only publicly produces about 10% of what actually goes on in his weight room. It’s a completely different level

      What am I grasping, that would take a year or two?
      If you had an appointment with a professional nutritionist, and when you walked into the consult room you were greeted by an obese, diabetic, and forgetful person - how willing would you be, to take them seriously?

      It’s for a short duration. No coach would do over 100% loads for long. It creates a stimulus. He wouldn’t be a proponent of overly long periods of time with it. Also being young would not allow cortisol levels to stay elevated as it would older people. Proper sleep , proper levels of melatonin would keep cortisol low when needed.

      @@backfru You seriously must not know what you are talking about. Cal is one of the best in the business. In fact I would say that he up there with verkhoshansky. No other coach that I know of can compare with the methods utilized by Cal. they are seriously next level.
      I would highly recommend you read Triphasic training and his manuals online it is worth 100% of your money.
      also on another note even if Cal Dietz does not look like an athlete, that doesn't mean shit. How they look and the results they produce are completely unrelated. Its like saying lineman aren't athletes because they have extra chub on then and weight 120-150kg

      @@backfru I understand where you are coming from, but that would also be like saying Bill Belichick shouldn’t be taken seriously as a football coach because his appearance is an out of shape old dude.
      A coach doesn’t have to be the best athlete to be a great coach. In the same way being a great athlete won’t necessarily mean you will be a good coach.

    Should I be taking advice from this guy?
    Sure, he trains "pro athletes" and is an "expert"
    My counter to that is, if a financial expert approached you on the street with all the knowledge to get rich, but was homeless himself - would you trust him?
    I am doubtful of athletic professionals who know the science and methods, but clearly don't 'walk their talk'
    Why would I take fitness advice from someone who is clearly out of shape himself?
    Impressive slideshows and letters after his name.
    But so what?
