Such excitement when young ewes have quads!!! Despite the losses, this is a very good video. There's a reason for the loss, and we need to accept them. It's out of your control, as you do everything humanly possible to protect your sheep. It could be the Cache Valley Virus that caused the stillbirth of the lambs, it is very fatal after all to fetuses. I really enjoyed this video, hearing those tiny bleets is such music to my ears!!! My days are complete with Sandi and her Sheep!!
You are becoming truly seasoned Sandi! I'm glad that you've learned to handle the ups&downs so smoothly and with the wisdom of all your experiences! Loving your shepherding! Bhaaa!
Salutations Sandi! ❄️🌲💖🐑 So, I've been watching for almost two years now. We weren't taught much of anything on sheep in Large Animal Veterinary Assistant course ( mostly due to our location). You have filled the role perfectly, as my Virtual Teacher.
A magical and mystical video. All this new life and the stress of birth. I swear that the ewes and you are bonded in the moment as they give birth. There just seems to be a momentary connection between you and the ewe, how sweet. Thank you and see you tomorrow.
The snow white 1 of 2 has the longest legs I've watched be born in the little less than a year I've watched. Even the struggling Ewes make it look effortless and as an human mom, I'll admit I've been a little jealous; until today. One ewe sounded like what I expected when I first started following, the Oh God help me this is harder than it looks sound. She did great and delivered a pretty lamb in the end!😊
Sandi love the video. I think that at least some of the ewes come to you for help. Like that one toward the end of the vid, she was saying I have something happening here! Excuse me!! My dad's last batch of heifers did that, they would come to him for help calving, very cute, as soon as you walk outside they are there bellering at you for help. They were just the best cows. And I know it is not the same, but sheep, goats, cows are all alike when it comes to bonding with you. And wanting to have you be there with them.
Different critter, but my grandma had a cute story about a barn cat. Keep in mind none of the barn cats got any vet care or fixed at this point in time and honestly not so friendly either. Anyway this poor young mama was screaming at the back door with a kitten half out her backside, which was odd bc only the huge orange tom was the only real friendly one I remember, that would come to us. Grandma gave her box and put her in the garage. Had her babies in there :p
@@kthearcher3357 currently we have an old tom, neutered, he just showed up with half an ear froze off and so thin my wife and mom didn't think he would live. We that was over 20 years ago now and he is still helping me with chores and hunting birds and rats. Nicest cat we ever had
Some very beautiful babies in this batch! Sad about the losses, but I know it comes with the territory. Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
My son is visiting for Christmas and is making fun of me because my experience with Sandi is interactive - I talk as if I am there. He was down here for the whole vlog and was walking up the stairs to leave as Sandi said "25 lambs - 11 ewes". He commented "that's a pretty good ratio" LOL We raised goats when he was growing up. #superfan
My daughter and I both "talk" to Sandi when we are watching and she's trying to appease the people who make rude comments about her style. Like helping or not helping during birth, or how long she waits before helping. I get so frustrated when people, who probably know NOTHING about sheep (or Sandi) and don't realize she edits out huge chunks of time to make the video better, think they know how to to her job better than she does! I think, what would those people do if random people walked in and started telling them how to do their job! And if you know Sandi, you know how much she loves her animals! She's happy when they're happy and cries when there are disasters. So she's not just in it for the numbers, she really cares about her animals. 💙
Sandi how wonderful to see all the Vlogmas videos, sorry for the stillborns, hopefully it will work itself out .Merry Christmas, to all of your Family including Carissa.be blessed my friend also I live in Georgia,USA
Watching that ewe push and push was so stressful for me I didn’t realize I was clenching my butt 😂 like as if that would help her push the baby out 🤦🏼♀️
After watching probably hundreds of lambies being born in the past couple of years on this and a few other channels, I am still fascinated by 2 things. Well, besides the actual miracle of any birth, that is. The first is how a lamb comes sliding out of mom all wet and covered with who know what all including, in some cases, a major dose of poop. Then within no time at all, that little one turns into a clean, fluffy ball of cuteness. The second thing i can’t get over is the uniqueness of some of the little families. The mom may be almost pure white, have brown/black face and legs, or painted like sweet Billy, but her babies can be any combination of colors or breeds. The amazing thing about this is that except for the occasional crazy one, pretty much all the mom is interested in is how they smell. She just gets busy licking which takes us back to comment #1.
When I thinking how my sister went in, was induced, got an epidural & was out the next day. Yeah I think drugs means it's better for humans. But what do I know I don't have any kids & have no plans on my own. I just like babysitting. Which was why I was often left with my nieces & nephews. As well as my sister's friends kids. Luckily my mom was there or it might have been too much.
I really don't believe that animals have it easier than women when it comes to giving birth, it's just that some animals don't vocalize their pain like humans do. It hurts for them every bit as much as it hurts for humans, i think.
I don't care what species it is, childbirth is PAINFUL and traumatic. God just makes us humans forget the pain with overwhelming love or we would NEVER do it more than once! I'm hoping it's the same for animals...
you hear that often, humans commenting animals are made for it, so are we, still hurts intensely.. I am empathy, my stomach tights for each ewe giving birth..
Aww I love watching all the babies there so adorable and cute and fun to watch jump around. Happy for the first time mom's,doing good job. But wow alit of the mamas had alot of multiple. I find myself laughing, giggling and even some tears when Little ones don't make it..Sandi you are never interfering you have the Ewes and babies best interest at heart..Thats part of why we love you.. 14:42 is a *completely* hypnotizing and addictive Sandi moment. You are our drug of choice. Of course your beloved tufted ewe gave you an awesome third: a pretty Sandi’s Painted Lamb! I like that diamond shape on its head. Please work your magic to befriend that one. ❤️ Thanks again for all your hard work! You’re amazing.
Sandi, I live on a lake and have ATROCIOUS mosquitoes. Some of them are the size of Oldsmobiles...I kid you not! I had one of those half barrels planted with some catnip or catmint. Every few days, I would come out and chop some off or crush some leaves with my hands...It kept like a 15 foot parameter in all directions away from that barrel. Maybe if you plant it around the sheep barn it might keep the mosquitoes away? You can mow it with the tractor at the end of summer. I looked to see if it was poisonous to sheep and I didn't find anything. It is strong smelling. Marigolds also keep the mosquitoes at bay where I live as well.
This is not a any kind of charge, just a thing I had heard and learnt through my experience with sheep. When you have newborn lamb with hypothermia, first thing is tube it with 10% dextrose, (mix 50ml of warm water). Tubing is possible, use really thin tube attached to syringe. You can feel it going to right place when you put your fingers to lambs throat, if you can't feel it passing, i's going to lungs. After that, use bucket (little bit taller than normal is easier) and fill it with 39-40C water, not any hotter! Keep the lamb's head above water level. It will be more easy if you cut shape like a travel pillow out of styrofoam and put it around the neck. When lamb is warm and lively, dry it and then tube/bottle it with colostrum. Warming up the hypothermic lamb without carbs in it's organs will almost always lead to severe and fatal brain injury. Hope this is helpful to everyone, greetings from the arctic circle and happy Christmas.

The vet can’t examine/necropsy the 3 stillborn and see what caused them to all be stillborn? I know he can’t do all of them but maybe find something out.
You’ve had what seems like a lot of stillbirths this lambing, there’s got to be a reason, and 3 in one mum ??? One here one there with different mums is one thing, but even then there’s been a lot to me. I just feel so sorry for the moms when they have no lambs after all that pain and straining...I even wanted to jump in and help that last ewe (one you said is such sweet quiet mom), she really looked like she was in pain trying to get the lamb out. But, I’m just an observer and not there to know the whole story. Do you think these mums were overweight? IMHO they looked so much bigger than previous lambing moms, I would have thought there were going to be numerous quads/quints/sextuplets! 😳...not just single, twins, triplets. Two-thirds? of them looked that way to me. Just my novice observation.
Not to mention the bill for a single necropsy either. Back when I was doing a poultry extension gig, the cost for a chicken necropsy was over 250$ and then unless you had a clue it was often **shrug** it died, no virus, no bacterial infection, no clue. I hated those!
Sometimes watching them lamb, makes me wanna push too. Motherly empathy, idk but i havent had coffee yet so isnt that 🤪🤣. So glad the ewe with still borns was able and willing to try with the foster lambs. Things happen for a reason!!!! God bless you Sandi. You truly are amazing, haters and all. We all are just a bunch of know it alls 🤪🤪🤣 jk. Much love.
Making me wish I had space for sheep, lol! I used to raise bottle fed goats, ones name was Cocoa. She was a twin and never grew full size. But we raised her in our back room cuz she had crippled front legs. Took her to the vet to put her down but they wanted to help her. Shes still alive and at least 7 years old by now. We gave her and my other goat Max away to a guy we knew who had young sons, they love her! I miss her a lot but I've got my horses now.
Please stop listening to people who say you are interfering. Nothing about your setup is natural to sheep, they don't get the same exercise they would on pasture to be in peak physical condition for lambing. I think those commenting were doing so in respect to going into a ewe too soon. Once the lamb is there, properly presented even just pulling a leg to pop a shoulder will speed things along. You need a night check person to lessen dead lambs overnight. Re: fostering, non-sheep people don't realize how mean and even dangerous a ewe can be to lambs she doesn't want. Your nanny is a blessing.
I feel the same way. It was painful to watch the one ewe struggling for so long bleating in pain when simply grabbing a hoof and popping the head out to speed things up would have saved her much anguish. She seemed so exhausted when she finally delivered, unnecessarily so. I loved the fact that the one ewe fostered those lambs and didn't have to go lambless. (Is that a word?--Looks like I am bless)
@@debthompson4498 Yes I actually thought, is she putting this ewe through this for more views because it made zero sense and is actually cruel when she knows how easy it is to end this ewe's excruciating pain with a 10 second assist. I really enjoy watching this channel but there are a few moments, not many because Sandi is very experienced with sheep, but a few that are cringe worthy. Not having a night check person and then coming in in the morning to dead lambs and not using lube when doing an internal assist, I just don't understand. Sandi is blessed with facilities most sheep producers can only dream of and I admire her honesty in what happens, beyond words, it's always a good watch and certainly educational for newbies to sheep.
@@vwvw4 Well, Sandi has talked before about the gallons of lube she goes through each lambing session. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean she is not using it.
Since you were supposed to be part of a study maybe you could try talking to the student who emailed you. They might want you to preserve some samples of fluids/tissue/blood or something. Maybe you could ship them some. Or keep it for later if possible. Either way keep track of everything because it seems to me that something has gone wrong there. There is something affecting the poor things. Some of the lambs that passed just didn't seem right. Never forget that you're doing your absolute best for your sheep. That there really wasn't anything you could have done because you tried it. It just wasn't meant to be & at least they aren't suffering. Plus you saved Noah. I wonder if his issue was different? Or if he was the rare animal to survive? Because if he's a rare survivor then he might carry some kind of a clue to things. You're doing wonderful out there. Much better than any of us can do. This is just the reality of raising livestock. I've really enjoyed this look into your world. Thank you & Merry Christmas to you & yours. Love from Oklahoma Donna (human), Micah (cat) & Harlequin (cat).
Such a Mom thing......... i find myself wanting to PUSH while the ewes are lambing!! :) Enjoy each and every day you share with us Sandi. Thank you so much!
It's wonderful and too cute, how just born they know who mommy is & what she can give them. They might have to hit & miss a few x to find the right end but it they do pretty quickly.
I really like the way you know what to do when a mother rejects the lamb or when one needs to be fostered or when one steals. I think it's humorous the way you get to hoppinn'. 😇
This may sound stupid. When the moms are having a difficult time birthing, I want to help. Takes me back 44 years ago when I suffered hours having my child. I’ll never forget! Hopefully they forget the pain. When you’re able to physically help, I think it’s wonderful! 👍🏻💕🌻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I agree! Just sweet little hellos and welcomes to this world.

IMHO they looked so much bigger than previous lambing moms, I would have thought there were going to be numerous quads/quints/sextuplets! 😳...not just single, twins, triplets. Two-thirds? of them looked that way to me. Just my novice observation.
Not placing blame on you Sandi, just sad for you and the moms, and hoping there is an answer.
Cache Valley Fever causes still births and weak live lambs
Cache valley virus can also affect only 1 lamb on the litter and the others will be unaffected
Not to mention the bill for a single necropsy either. Back when I was doing a poultry extension gig, the cost for a chicken necropsy was over 250$ and then unless you had a clue it was often **shrug** it died, no virus, no bacterial infection, no clue. I hated those!
I just adore the black and white lambs. Merry Christmas to all.
So exciting! Love your videos! So calming!
Goodmorning Sandi, I'm sorry it was a tragic morning but it had a happy ending. Good job on taking care of your flock!
Much love.
I feel it too
Sooo agree.
Hey sandi it kinda looks like the mom that fostered might have droopy ears .
Merry Christmas Sandi from my home in London Ontario to yours always a pleasure to watch , learn and enjoy!!
Aw. So cute. Ty for sharing Sandi.
@@MobyDicksWife You can see lube when it is on a glove.
7:26 looks like the printer ran out of ink :P
Such a Mom thing......... i find myself wanting to PUSH while the ewes are lambing!! :) Enjoy each and every day you share with us Sandi. Thank you so much!
You work so hard Sandi, hope you get a breather!
It's wonderful and too cute, how just born they know who mommy is & what she can give them. They might have to hit & miss a few x to find the right end but it they do pretty quickly.
Those Suffolk rams were quite active!
That quad looks like a reverse cow! The tail tip is white instead of black 💕😍🥰 awww
Those babies sound so precious... could sit and 🎶 👂
I really like the way you know what to do when a mother rejects the lamb or when one needs to be fostered or when one steals.
👍🏻💕🌻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I LOVE THESE ( your ) VIDEOS SO NICE THANKS FOR ALL U DO TO SHARE :) when they are pushing with all their might im pushing too , hahaha its real site ty Sandy
Omg...adorable overload 😍 Thank you for sharing I really appreciate you and your videos.
Happy Holidays to you and your family Sandi!
Well done mums and Sandi, keep up the great work, stay safe xx
Your the only one that can make me happy when I’m sad because you have the cutest animals in the hole world!🥲
I watched this while making peanut brittle. Probably not the smartest move but it passed the time and I just love to watch your videos. Glad your day turned around. Looking forward to the next one.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have epidurals for all these laboring moms?🥰. The lambs are so darn cute!
Thank you for sharing with us. It is a refreshing break to see your sheep and your family! Blessing from Texas.🌺🌺🌺🌺
No, they need to be able to get up, both while labouring and then for the lambs to feed.
I watch every night and tonight watching that sweet one be born. I thought about the poem. MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB
"Here's a lamb, there's a lamb, everywhere are lamb lambs" "Sandi Brock has got some lambs..eeyi, eeyi..oooo!" Ok..everybody sing😀🤭🤗
Yeah, there's no way that I could just stand back and watch the ewes. I'd be in there helping every single one! 😅
Every time a baby "baaaa-ed", I "ooooo-ed"
When the babies are talking to their mom's it sounds to me like their saying "mommmm". I love baby animals, lambs and foals are my favorite.
Sandi.
Thank You very much for your beutiful sharing of your busy day lambing. Please Take Care of Your Self be safe around all Farm Equipment
