I love the ThinkPad series. Especially the T series. A T series that's not an S model doesn't have an integrated battery, which means that you can replace the battery with a bigger 6-9 cell batteries as well. A must.

Love lenovo laptops! Right now I have a lenovo s210 ideapad and it worked great over the years! However, after 4-5 years and the hinges broke. (may have been my fault) Now I am waiting on this e580 thinkpad for programming and other school related stuff. How can I prevent hinges from breaking? HDD w/o additional costs? You can open Chrome and half of your memory is consumed. I suggest the average user opt for a gently used ThinkPad T, P, or W series. You can easily get one that meets the standards for $300-$400 and spend a few more bucks for DIY upgrades that will last you years and years. To each her own.

A decent laptop ruined by a totally silly cooling solution... I'm actually getting within days an older E570 that does not have this problem (has cooling vents on the side).

a youtube account it’s a business line with a higher quality build even if it is the more budget line lol... look at the other laptops in the Thinkpad section and see peep the other series prices. A lot of the more well known consumer laptops go for over $800 and well over $1000 for some of them.
Battery life is largely subjective as their are many variables that affect it. I do heavy programming and image editing and I have mine running 6-7 hours now. I only got around 3 hours with the factory settings though. You'll need to make some adjustments.

It's available with a backlit keyboard. Mine has it. It's one of the better keyboards I've seen lately. It's visible on either high or low illumination and not overpowering when used in complete darkness.
