Me and my sis are flying from Tokyo Haneda to LAX via Asiana Airlines. So we have a connecting flight in Seoul Incheon Airport. We're kinda scared but before booking this flight I did some research about connecting flights. Some say that the minimum layover time should be at least 2 to 4 hours so that you wouldn't rush that much in case of a delay. So gladly I booked a 6 hour layover in Incheon 🤣.

I was travelling back to Detroit from Manila. The first flight from Manila to Los Angeles got rerouted to Seoul which added 2 hours to the enroute. The agent said I definitely will make my connecting flight even though I had to go through customs in LA. I am a US Citizen. We land in LA 30 minutes before the connecting flight departs. Needless to say, we were way too late. So, the airline was trying to find us a flight that night, but they were all booked. we eventually got a flight the next morning. Nope. It seems all major Canadian Airports preclearance you before take off. ie you have to pass though customs in Montreal before takeoff. For me it was just after they checked my bags and went though the normal airport screening. It was waaayyy easier then driving across the boarder and nice knowing you don't have to clear customer at JFK which would be BUSY.

Im actually wondering whether i'll have enough time for my connection to terminal 6 with alaska airline since i just realize that we have to go through baggage claim and custom in LAX before the connecting flight 😑 as for the baggage will i have to bring it to terminal 6 to get it check in or is there a transfer desk to put the bags after the custom? I am using one itinerary ticket for my whole flight so i assume that the baggage already have a tag for the final destination? Will i still have to go through security too? If you’re flying internationally and connecting onward ie: flying into the USA from a different country, eg. Fly London to JFK and connecting on to Nashville. You will go through customs and immigration in JFK (or whichever is airport you go into first) and even if your bags are checked through to your final destination, you have to pick them up and bring them through customs, then drop them at a designated area to get them on your next flight. If you’re flying into a different country and connecting onwards, eg flying to London and then on to Paris, you check your bags to your final destination and only pick them up in Paris to go through French immigration and customs. Hope that makes sense! 😎

You won't be able to check in and get your ticket until it's close to departing. Usually 48 to 24 hours depending on the airline. From manila I'll be departing from PHP time 23:25 am then the time of arrival is 10:56 am Philippine time. Then there would be a layover on my itinerary for 2 hrs because my flight from Sydney using virgin Australia to Brisbane is 13:00pm. Is the flight going to use Philippine time and not Sydney time? because if it uses 3 hours advanced in time for Sydney from Philippine time and if my arrival in Sydney is 10:56 am Philippine time it would probably be 13:56 pm Sydney time. How is it going to work because I don't want to miss my flight to Brisbane at 13:00 pm when I am still on the plane by that time if they use Sydney time.:(

    • @youtubebydoug

You can. Flights with layovers are usually cheaper since the airline can fit you into their schedule. An example would be a flight from la to Kansas and Kansas to New York is a lot less popular and unlikely to completely book up over a direct flight from la to New York.
You’re free to leave the airport and stay in Kansas for as long as you like but you have to remember you’ll have to check in again and pass though airport security again.

Hey! Hopefully you got a good deal? Each connecting flight is considered their own flight so thats why you've gone so many flight numbers. Just kept track of your airline and bring a copy of your bookings so staff can sort you out. Get there a little early so you don't feel so rushed. That's what I did my first time flying solo.

For example when someone wanna fly from Madrid to Paris , but the flight that he did booking it's a connecting flight so he should pass by Turkey , that mean the flight been like this :
    Madrid --> Istanbul --> Paris.
And the flight is only one ticket . Or he should pay and take another ticket in Istanbul ?????
Second of all , the baggage will you take it in your hands while you are in Istanbul and you make it again for the weight check while they checking your passport or you will not see your baggage because they will take it automatically to the plane ???
Another important question : in any case you should show your passport in Istanbul and show them your ticket that you did take from Madrid and they give you new one or how it works ?????

    • @youtubebydoug
      @youtubebydoug  4 года назад +1

It depends on a lot of things.. if you’re flying with the same airline they should give you both your tickets for your flights when you first check in. If it’s two different airlines they won’t always give you your connecting flight ticket.
As for going though customs and immigration again it depends on the airport. Some airports you won’t have too.. you should be able to walk up to the front gate and just check in, some other airports, it could be in a different terminal or badly designed where you need to restart the entire process again and treat it like a completely new flight.

    LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is NOT THEIR luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. ruclips.net/video/q-gLsegazCs/видео.html
Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile...
    ruclips.net/video/4NfX2W4DN7E/видео.html
These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon.
Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees.
Tie to the base of the handle, tie to the metal buckle. Thus, it will not slip along the handle.
Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers.
Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end.
If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape.
You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away.
Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case.
Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle.
    Learn Half Windsor knot tying:
It is the 2nd example in this video
    ruclips.net/video/X0yh5rKB9lE/видео.html
    This knot does not loosen.
Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie.
    Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
    No personal name necessary.
No address necessary on the ribbon.
Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color.
Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece.
Tie your backpack, skiies, duffel bag, carry-on, and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case bag.
If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself.
Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible.
    Pleasant color combinations:
    Red, white and blue
    Chartreuse and purple and orange
    Orange and light blue
    Orange and yellow
    Gray and pink
    Green and yellow
    Red and Green
    Red and Gold
Light blue and light green and white
The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
    Tip #2 PICTURE RECORD
Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. Take a picture of the interior. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it.
You can show this picture to the searcher or attach a picture to your report for lost luggage.
Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights.
    Tip #3 INSIDE IDENTITY
Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape...
To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape.
    Tip #4 HIDDEN IDENTITY
Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show.
    Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS
    Use 4 ribbons
    Add 1 designer ribbon
    colored duct taped handle
Stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2” or smaller stencil letter or number or word or your initials to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray the BOTTOM OF THE CASE as well.
Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon.
Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”.
Put a travel sticker on the case.
    Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN
Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a
    HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE
    It is less than $15.
    Tip #7 GPS TRACKING DEVICE
Duct tape to an inside pocket a GSM GPS Tracking device. Find them on Ebay. Your iphone can tell you where your luggage is.
Is it in another city? ruclips.net/video/qJkUSNIBsP0/видео.html
    HomingPIN tracker ruclips.net/video/V96ADrVzhys/видео.html
    Gego Tracker ruclips.net/video/EI0ARnEqq-w/видео.html
    Worldwide Tracker ...GSM, Wifi, Bluetooth
    USB rechargeable
Tip #8 OLD TAGS, YOUR ITINERARY
Remove old trip tags before you arrive at the airport. Remove confusion.
Put a copy of your trip itinerary in an outside pocket so the agent can redirect the bag.
Ask the travel agent to send you copies.
Photograph all travel documents using your cell phone.
    Tip #9 FLIGHT SAFETY
Put laptops, cameras and jewelry in your CARRY-ON. ruclips.net/video/fQLIwVXa3oU/видео.html
Tip #10 LET LUGGAGE FOLLOW YOU
    Choose non stop flights.
Choose connecting flights of at least 90 minutes so luggage has time to be transferred to the next plane.
Compare white luggage destination tag city code to your itinerary for accuracy.
Tip #11 TAKE SCREEN SHOTS OF THESE TIPS
Then share them with your friends. Include the Tube Video seen here also.
    Tip #12 PHOTOGRAPH THIS
    Your travel plan
    Vaccine Passport
    Hotel confirmations handwritten by you.
Your luggage, inside and out. Include unusual words spray paint stenciled on luggage by you. Show a close up of ribbon colors.
Your destination luggage tag, bar code tag
    Receipts for payment of trip.
If you lose paper versions, you have a backup.
Passcode lock your cell phone in case it is lost.
    Tip #13 LUGGAGE DESTINATION TAG
Check the accuracy of the white luggage tag code against your itinerary. You may be sending your luggage to the wrong city.
    BAGGAGE THEFT VIDEO
    ruclips.net/video/4NfX2W4DN7E/видео.html
    ruclips.net/video/42PXCXBw7GU/видео.html
Tip # 14 AVOID these in CHECKED baggage
    ruclips.net/video/oPPQzu84ahc/видео.html
Tip #15 IF YOU SELL LUGGAGE
Include a set of 3-4 ribbons, 14” long, with the sale. Consider tying them on for the customer. Sell an extra set for the hand carry piece.

@@youtubebydoug For one, I was just curious; for another, you brought up an interesting point regarding multiple airlines... I hear that if they have some "agreement" it makes the connection smoother, but how does that work?

    • @youtubebydoug

Not sure how it works... when I booked I den't really care what airline I was flying with, I was just looking for the cheapest one. They usually try and put your connecting flight close together but when it's 2 different airlines they can't do anything about it. I was really running to making my connecting flight on the way back haha

My coworker said he done with more shorter time of layover which was only 35 mins, and he kept telling me I would be fine even just only have 90 or 120 minutes.😅

35 minutes is tight. Basically if anything goes wrong, you're screwed!

If either of you have trouble ask for help. The airline employees will likely even walk you to your connecting flight.

going thru us customs before flying makes the video a bit of a no no really. It is not the same as doing a proper airport transfer where you have to sort out your luggage and go thru customs again
