The amount of effort that you didn't show us is almost as amazing as the result.
Thank you so much!
Yeah! I actually waited for this since the second part came out. So much work in real time.
The amount of confidence you had while hammering at a ton of stone while standing *inside* the structure was inspiring
The structure is designed not to fall down even if there are some minor mistakes. But anw, yes, the courage and belief he gives his work is amazing
Lol exactly
@@laiquocbao2565 Are the middle top stones keeping everything from falling if the mortar fails? I dont really understand whats to keep one of the stones from sliding out if the mortar doesnt dry or hold it properly.
@@SuWoopSparrow the shape makes it impossible for the stones to slide. They are jammed in, for 1 stone to slide they would all have to. Look up key stone arches .
@@SuWoopSparrow gravity holds it together. the weight of the arch is what pinches each block in place. it is not absolutely necessary to use mortar.
even after watching the videos I don't think people will understand how much work this project was. Very well done Mr Chickadee.
One of the toughest jobs Ive ever done by far
Been watching you since day 1, “Coincidentally” I’ve considered leaving my job since then.
More brilliant than anything I have ever witnessed a single human do. You Sir are a rare creature indeed.
What about four hobbits?
My sentiments exactly! Bravo, Mr. Chicadee! This was certainly worth the wait. Best to you and yours.
Just what I was thinking, best root cellar build I've seen on RUclips!! You have set the standard!
Did he learn his trade as a hand me down from previous generations of masons? Watching this is mesmerizing. I feel like this is so relaxing to watch. The talent, skill and patients is just incredible. He works at night time. Love this so much.
Welcome back, I don't know why but the cutting and fitting of key stones has always had a fascination for me. Excellent job. Regards Jim UK.
Even though I understand how arches work it’s still amazes me to see an arched structure get built.
Me too. It still seems like it would just collapse in on itself. It's a bunch of rocks in the air.
@@cbalan777 "it's just a bunch of rocks in the air" hahaha i love it
Glad you've found post service peace. Respect.
Ur work is Jedi!! And you the way u capture it is so accurate snd satisfying!!! The elegance,. determination and execution is unmatched! Glad I found u and wish I had earlierly. Your humbling to say the least. Thank for sharing your masterful skills, patience and knowledge! On point and every movement has a purpose!!! Wow .
I would pay a small fortune for a book on all of these forgotten techniques -- material preservation, structure designs, "recipes," etc.
im slowly formulating one, though it will be much cheaper than your price. ;)
@@MrChickadee I will be on the lookout! Can't wait.
Watching Mr. chickadee removing those wooden forms inside his cellar was both a little scary and a thing of beauty at the same time. A wonderful piece of work. Thank you.
Good point!
of all the buildings you have made this is one of the best. the stone work is amazing. root cellars were one of the important parts of most homes. my grandmother had one in the side of a mountain behind her house
I've waited a long time for this lol. I'm absolutely loving it
Man, this is shaping up brilliantly! Watching you, I have way more respect for our ancestors, who did things this way as a matter of course. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Your root cellar is coming along nicely. When pulling the formwork it is a test in confidence that you trust your work enough to be inside while removing them.
My grandfather ran a pulp wood business and was a carpenter between the world wars, and when I was young, I dreamt of doing the things you're doing on your channel. Alas, that time has passed for me. Thank you for posting your works.
That structure is beyond awesome. The coolest room all summer long.
Really enjoyed this one I think a lot of people learned some Physics on this one. Lots of comments already telling you about thrust and loading, I have no doubt at all, that you have this already planned , can’t wait to see the grass growing Mr Underhill
Thanks for sharing!
Incredible determination, fluid skills, and consistent persistence. WOW!
Cheers from New Hampshire.
Wow. What a work of craftsmanship and diligence. It is beautiful! And will surely have those who come after you wondering when it was built, since your methods and materials are so simple and true. Enjoy filling it with food now!
I have to be honest with you, after all that work, and the look of it, I think I'd throw together some cinderblock next to it, to bury and use for a root cellar, and I'd move INTO this structure, lol....
A very trusting soul for proper cement and rock positioning while knocking out the frame from inside!! Wow..Awesome work Josh!DD
As a carpenter who is used to working with power tools, anchor bolts, glue, cement, etc... I am in awe.
all things we never had or needed till now...
Man the wait for part 3 was long. Hopefully part 4 doesn't take as long. Really impressed with you're building skills.
That is amazing! I have to say I had no clue you were removing the wood and when you did I was on the edge of my seat saying what the heck is he doing but it stayed and it is so cool
putting in those arches so that you could lay in the stone for the roof is exactly how people have been building arches for centuries. In fact, this is pretty much exactly how they built the arched ceilings for Notre Dame Cathedral when it was first built, and will likely be used again, when they repair the ceiling.
that's a boy any Dad would be proud of.. teaching my little son to be just this kind of man.. thanks for sharing and putting these videos together.. utmost love and respect to you amazing talented brother!!
give your son a little more self-confidence, not that he always has to listen to his father like a dog. a child has to be able to decide for himself what he wants to become.
show him the way but let him decide if he wants to go.
don't make the mistake i made help him but don't force him. Germany sends greetings.👍🏻
Love watching him work. He’s not in a hurry, there’s no clock and no deadlines. Just doing something extremely well. The craft is what matters, the workmanship.
This cellar will last far longer than any home build today.
No half measures taken. That is a lot of work you have put in. Must be satisfying.
You really gotta believe in yourself if your doing a job like this.
You really gotta believe if your taking out the support structure, thats for sure.
I can hardly wait to see the final result. Thank you for slowing your project(s) by filming them for us. I pray all is well with you and yours.
Great work as always. I was starting to get worried about you because it was getting a bit long between videos. Glad you’re still at it.
Muscle and sinew and patience. With such ingredients comes greatness.
I was a carpenter for 25yrs and worked on a lot of old farm houses and I saw several of that style of root cellar. Definitely a piece of history. Great job sir!
It's so good to see you again it's been awhile and I'm glad all the projects are moving forward 👍🏾
These videos, though an inspiration, just aren't long enough. I could watch you work for hours and I can't wait for the next video.
Glad you like them!
The basement looks great!
I can imagine that the keystones were heavy.
Just as you set the keystones, the bread ovens were built earlier (or today as a replica) for the family.
Have a nice week.
Ok this is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I've been wracking my brain on how to support a curved vardo roof for a self made camper. The 3 minutes solved my problem.
It will not be stone, more than likely it will be corrugated sheet metal or fiberglass to save weight.
Thanks man. Sometimes easy solutions get pushed to the side by over thinking the problem. (at least for me)
Love your stone work abilities, just amazing. I really like the way you showed how to do the arch.
I hope you are doing well. Thank you for all of the hard work and the documenting it for us. Always look forward to another video Mr. Chickadee!!
ASMR for the soul. Thanks Mr Chickadee. Excellenté
Patience is key, beautiful work.
Thanks
Solid work sir, thank you for bringing us along.
Speechless. When the brace came down, I flinched. But the roof held. Magnificent workmanship.
Glad you liked it!
I had my heart ❤ in my mouth when you was removing the ceiling forms, I couldn't help thinking that if this roof cave's in your going to be buried inside under about 30 or so tonnes!!!.
To be honest I'm so so glad that didn't happen... it's looking fantastic and I'm really enjoying the build process well done dear sir , looking forward to seeing the door 🚪 build!!!. 💯% 👍🇬🇧
Excellent work. Watching you build the support frames and then fit and set those keystones was fascinating. I have a sense of the physical effort, the planning, and the skill involved in this project and I find it all to be very impressive! Thank you.
YEEEEES FINALY PART 3 :D
your builds are awsome , and ibrealy enjoy watching your videos
What an amazing build! You have incredible skills, I'm amazed at the amount of effort it took to create that arched roof . Can't wait to see it finished and filled with food!
Incredible! Fantastic job. No one builds like this anymore. That root cellar will last a thousand years. LOL
Hope so!
Bravo Sir!! A grand feat to be proud of.Can't wait to see the door installation.
After seeing all the work and effort, that goes into this, how is it possible, that some people hit dislike? ...Unbelievable.
Amazing craftsmanship and equally good camera and editing. Thanks for the content.
Je tenais à vous dire que je trouve vos réalisations extraordinaires et que vos méthodes de travail méritent tout mon respect
Amazing, you are a real craftsman Mr. Chickadee.
...and to think I feel so accomplished working on some shelves in my garage.
That is trust in yourself, and confidence in your work. Congrats.
This is completly amazing
Really nice work. It's a joy to watch you work, keep it up.
Excellent video. Thank you for making it. Stay well.
An incredible amount of work
Amazing stonework and the cellar looks great.
My heart skipped a few beats when you removed the supports. Thank goodness the keystones held, but a helmet never hurts!
Also more more more! Love it! Best project on RUclips right now!
Thank you, this reminds me of my ancestors they used to build similar root cellars except they were digging bellow the surface about ten eleven risers the more risers the better the root cellar was considered, as a matter of fact we inherited one of this root cellar and it's better then a fridge. Great work, thanks again.
A positively inspiring series, please do a part four.
I can only imagine, how satisfied you must have felt, taking the wooden construction away at the end. I'm surprised, you didn't do a little happy dance - I would have 😃😉
I think i was too shaky in the knees! haha
@@MrChickadee We love your honesty!! In the video, you looked "cool, calm and collected" LOL
Watching you do these things in this day and age is so rewarding. Thanks for all your hard work and documenting it for us. Amazing work.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you
Very well made. In South Korea, there is also an underground storage warehouse made of stone called “Seokbinggo,” which is a traditional method of storing winter ice until summer.
You are an amazing craftsmen. Very inspirational to watch. Patience and perseverance....
Off the hook! Thank you both for the inspiration you provide for my life!
Our pleasure!
Thanks so much for showing the process of creating formwork! It's something I've always seen diagrams of, but the process has always eluded me.
Fantastic work . Well done.
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
You are one awesome dude. This video made me happy. Congratulations, that was big.
Honestly the relaxing tones of a man at work in nature and the fascinating work you do makes me excited every time you upload a video. Very chill my friend!
Happy to hear that!
I’m sure you’ve heard this many times, but my God you are a Master ! Wish it was possible to apprentice under you .
Thanks man, I'm just a guy learning every day, how little I know, and how much they did!
Your are a hardworking man !
Wow, it’s beautiful. Amazing work.
People underestimate the power and versatility of a good, sharp hatchet~!
Well THIS is amazing. Now I need to see more of your videos. WOW.
Rien de mieux qu'une vidéo de Mr.chickadee pour s'apaiser avant d'aller dormir.
Excellent work and thanks for showing us how it’s made!
No problem 👍
Great job, a truly great job, well done and thank you for sharing.
Incredible. Heart skipped a beat when that ceiling support came loose.

This is taking form quite well! Very impressive craftsmanship! I can't wait to see the end result.😊
You one smart cookie ! excellent workmanship luv your tresses.
Man thats an owesome Cellar very beautiful too, thank you for the video
As always wonderful work. Can't wait for your next project.
Thank you! Cheers!
Mr. Chickadee’s skills never fail to impress!
I can't even imagine the effort you used to cut all of those stones..,..😮
That might be the coolest thing I've ever seen built !
I am sure you've forgotten more than I will ever know. Well done on the build, your skills and knowledge are to be applauded.
beautiful work
Always amazed at the patience of this man
Or maybe the stubbornness
I can’t imagine how long it took to cut and fit every single stone. Then you lifted them all yourself? My back hurts just watching this. Truly remarkable, man. I really look forward to your uploads.
Bloody whimsical!
I admire as always, and I also feel like I have so much to learn when watching you!
Incredible work! Can’t wait for the next video
lookin really good
It was like getting a dose of Mike Haduck with Mr Chickadee today.
I cant recommend anyone who uses portland cement in stone or brick work
@@MrChickadee 😅 my great grandpa said it was sacrilege too, but my great uncle swore by it for pointing and crack repair in lower stonework in towns. But he also lived up north. So he had odd notions.
