David Holt not all civilians are pukes. Most have just never been held to the higher military standard. I wish you a better retirement than you expected.
David Holt I know the feeling. If I knew then half of what I know now, I would've done a lot of things differently starting almost from day one. My last year in I was really stressed out trying to figure out my future. You just do the best you can.
Thank you for your service, hard work, and sacrifice. Most people do not understand coming from that kind of life and what it involves. Find another way to continue helping people and serve. You are appreciated and it does well to remember that. Thanks again. Get into woodworking and learn the craft. It'd be a great hobby for retirement, expensive, but rewarding.
You sir are a master carpenter i have been a carpenter for over 55 years and i rember using them tools We started work at 6am in the morning till 6pm and always spend a hour at the end of the day sharping our tools it's sad that all the carpenters of today could not do what you do {everything by hand} I will show this video to all my old tradesmen in Ireland and talk about all the old times in the workshop Thankyou very much for putting it up on youtube God bless you.
TheDublin47 sir i am willing to work in carpentry. Im 27 yo,living currently in Poland but if i get a chance,i will move wherever theres a need for people like me. Can you help me by provide some information where could I go with my offer? I love making things and work with a wood.
I still try to, hand saws, chisels and hand planes. I get laughed at sometimes and get asked," whos tools are those your great, great grandfathers"??? I laugh because their fit of joinery isn't as nice.
Only the wealthy can afford hand craftsmanship. That twin bed would cost over a thousand $US. People on minimum wage can only afford charity furniture. We live in a Chinese plastic injection world.
@@BurnyTone Not really. In our modern time where allmost every thing is made by machines producing the same and soul less item over and over agein, so have people started to notice the old ways of handcrafts. And more people are starting to see the joy behind those crafts eatch day. The only sad thing is that people need to change their expectancy that handmade things should be priced the same as somthing made by a machine. There is an reason why that hand forged and hand sharpened knife cost 120$ instead of the 30$ the factory knife costs. And that is that it takes a lot longer and is alot more difficult to make handmade things.
OMG...I knew U could do it- but, as always...I'm amazed at the craftsmanship that goes into all that U build!! Appreciate your time & labor that goes along with all the appreciation of quality craftsmanship & pride that goes along with building/ making a piece of furniture like this. This will still b a "GREAT" piece of furniture for grandchildren a hundred years from now...absolutely priceless!! Love all that U do & appreciate U sharing this with all of us UNWORTHY of seeing how true craftsmanship is done!! Thanks again! !
SHAKE 'er? I hardly KNOW 'er! ..but on a much more serious note, this is an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship and anyone would be lucky to have such a bed
Mr Chickadee you are an exceptional craftsman and have a passion that many will never understand. I look forward each day to watch your videos. Never lose your drive or centre! Thanks, Sean
Any work with just hand tools is incredibly meditative and relaxing. It seems that power tools bring stress. I'm not banishing them forever but if there is time, then working with only hand tools seems to be more rewarding and fulfilling.
Your work is almost overwhelming--in a fantastic way. It's like being able to take a glimpse back in time. Thank you for posting. Such a joy to see your work.
I have so much respect for your skills. Folks like you keep the flame for so much knowledge that would otherwise be lost. The castle-type joint that you mortised into the posts is remarkable. The precision of the fit, is flawless. Thank you for sharing. I was inspired by a vision and I made a guitar by hand. I had no experience woodworking, tools or knowledge. It came out extremely well. I know in my heart that it was the work of the spirit, and I was just there to push the tools. I really think work like this, brings us closer to the divine. Take joy in your work, and thank you so much for sharing. May the Lord bless you, and your family.
A "Simple Shaker Bed", no. This is one of the finest hand woodworking bed i've ever seen. Wow what a nice work. Thank you for showing this, it's amazing.
There's something so special about planing green oak. Has to do with the fiber bundling I think, but I love it when I take a shaving off and there's those gaps in it from where the cross fibers were. That bed is gorgeous btw. With wood like that you don't need a stain.
Have to share this video with a friend. I had told him of your log splitting tools and hope he watches this video and see's the old time splitting wedges more clearly. Thanks for sharing with us.
Nice, the medullary rays show up very well in the quarter sawn wood. Great skills made an awesome bed, by an awesome craftsman, Mr. Chickadee!!!! Thanks for sharing, ....13
Here I was feeling all accomplished because I hand cut all the joinery in my new work bench. And here you are riving your own timber. I am in awe of how much work that must have been. I love your videos.
Not many arts and crafts give more pleasure than observing a start to finish artisan produce a fine piece . Thank you nearly 3 in the morning ,enjoyed very much
This is why men like Ford, Gillette, Singer and Kellog educated their kids, so as not to endure such a mundane way of life. However its more satisfying than riveting. The joints are particularly skilful and a joy to learn. Thanks.
What a beautiful project and wonderful craftsmanship! I love the cats in the workshop too, and OMG those hermit thrushes in the first two minutes -- the most beautiful bird song ever!
Since the first video I saw you working with wood, I get Impressed. I really like to see your work, congratulations. A hug from the first spectator of Brazil.
Mr. Chickadee- Sorry, I thought I had managed to leave my info in case u accidentally made one extra of what u build & wanted to allow others to possibly own your wonderful works & creations......lol But, I messed that up as well I think. Just not to gifted in smart phone depart. Anyway, I fell very sick years ago & was forced to retire from practically every desire I ever had & it's been a uphill battle ever since just trying to relearn the simple things we all take for granted like walking, driving, & even remembering or recognizing where u live. Anyway, doctors call it fibromyalgia & a few other things I don't quite understand. But, it's brought me closer to my savior. I justed wanted you to know I appreciate your videos very much & your workmanship. Your family is very fortunate to have generations of hand crafted blessings. And, I know where to bring all my cats when I need a cat sitter......lol I hope u & yours are blessed this day.
Absolutely beautiful! You never cease to amaze me! Such an incredible craftsman. It is so nice to just hear the sounds of hand tool woodworking. No narrative required. Thanks again for sharing!
Amazing skills. You have managed to convey to this fast moving times how tranquil and creative our world used to be. Thanks for the therapeutic videos.
Every essay should begin with a bang. When Bacon wrote on gardening, he began with the Garden of Eden. With building a bed, you have begun with Odyssey... Seems like some decent books in the Chickadee library. Well done and excellent video.
Beautiful wood and great work. I'll warn you about those through mortises and tusk tenons. Guard your shins and toes!! Especially when the covers hang down. DAMHIKT!! Ouch! (Love your videos!)
Nobody could tell you how to work with wood... You are the best! BUT- As a 68 year old painter, I can tell you need to use natural pig and camel bristle brushes when working with oil based paints or varnishes. That "Tynex" (nylon bristle) brush will work fine with waterborne paints, but not in oils. Oh yeah, congrats on the new addition (Little Chickadee?).
I love your work, and methods! For true Shaker furniture/methods, etc. I'd suggest looking into the Canterbury Shaker Village in New Hampshire - they have a living museum of the Shaker furniture makers, joinery and tools... Very simple, very efficient. (Also the first village in New England to have electricity).
I'd probably end up with a pensil if I were to carve wood like that. You are ver clever. You have to be good with so many different skills and numbers to be able to build and make or create things like you do!
Elegant work. Those through tenons give it such a great profile. I have to mention also that you keep some seriously sharp tools there bud. Can't wait to check out some more videos.
Great video and great work, as always. You are the anti-AvE, who is in love with his own voice. Quarter sawn white oak is beautiful. There is still no better way to fasten wood than wedges, even in 2019.
Fantastic! .. I was just thinking how funny it would be if one of the shot's showed him pull out an 'Easy Woodturning Tools' scraper, or a pocket hole jig :D
This is the manliest man I have ever seen. I once saw him in the woods as he fought a bear who had tried to take the fish he had caught. He know where’s that bears skin as a coat to remind any other animal that may cross his path that he don’t fuck around
What I like about these videos it's all show and no talk
Just retired from the military and going through a tough adjustment period. Your videos are a relaxing treat. Thank you!!!
Thank You for your service and sacrifice!

Modern tools and life in a hurry are killing off traditional crafts. It's a shame!

Glad you approve Charles! Our cat is named Charles as well, I think you guys would hit it off! ;)
Again, you show capability, craftsmanship and skill.
Simple, you should never use the word. Everything you do requires such skill and loads of labor. I've watched this video 3 times now. I'm amazed.
The beauty of form and function, indeed. I particularly e njoyed watching your treadle lathe in action.
That marking trick with the string just changed my life. Love your videos, keep doing the great things you do!
I had to watch this twice! Once to just enjoy the craftsmanship, another to learn from the technique, Thx.
Any work with just hand tools is incredibly meditative and relaxing. It seems that power tools bring stress. I'm not banishing them forever but if there is time, then working with only hand tools seems to be more rewarding and fulfilling.
That wood turning reminded me of Roy Underhill on Saturday morning PBS.
just soothing to watch.Craftsman not many around.Took me back to me Grandad.
Loved the string trick for drawing the curve.
It's good to see Mrs. Chickadee help with the sawing. I love to watch your chisel work, actually all the work, and the manual lathe..
I've got to seriously say I am absolutely 100% amazed at everything I just saw! Wow!!! Please keep making these videos

You SPOKE! Awesome bed. Your talent with hand tools is amazing to watch.
When ? I missed that.
Tanasi Tim turn your volume up at 1:35ish.
Whoops! not sure what I said, but we both missed that in the edition, hope it didnt ruin the ambiance for you!
He said okay. : ).
It's all good Mr. Chickadee. I'll keep watching and thumbs up every video.
Mr. Chickadee all you said was the word "OK". 😎 it was almost a whisper. I just thought it would be funny to point it out.
I am absolutely amazed at your talent Mr. Chickadee! You are a true wood working artist!
That log was a terrific find, the grain was amazing. The oil really brought it out.
Have to share this video with a friend. I had told him of your log splitting tools and hope he watches this video and see's the old time splitting wedges more clearly. Thanks for sharing with us.

You're not just a skilled woodworker, but the editing is just as good. Is it you or Mrs. Chickadee?
Thank you, all the filming and editing is totally the Mrs. I can barely turn on the camera.
Mr. Chickadee A perfectly matched team, creating something something very special.
I always think the same thing. You two make a great team. I watch your videos over and over. It's like staring at a painting at the art museum.
I love these videos. There's a Zen-like quality to them.
Your workmanship is a joy to behold.
It's always nice and impressive to see real handwork. Thanks
The craftsmanship of this channel is unmatched. Simply outstanding. Thank you so much for sharing your many skills!
What a beautiful project and wonderful craftsmanship! I love the cats in the workshop too, and OMG those hermit thrushes in the first two minutes -- the most beautiful bird song ever!
🙂👍Спасибо большое! Очень сильно порадовался, что вы не забываете традиционное столярное дело
I could watch you working for hours, I love the fact that you are traditional with your skills and tools keep them coming. Best wishes and take care.
Very nice job! This was a treat to watch. That wood was beautiful and you worked it to good effect.

A hug from the first spectator of Brazil.
Admirable skills, stunning piece of work.

Amazing skills. You have managed to convey to this fast moving times how tranquil and creative our world used to be. Thanks for the therapeutic videos.
I love the shopcats in your vids!
This is now my favorite ww video! And I have watched a lot, over the past 5-10 years.

Awesome job my friend I can't believe your skill level. From log to bed wow keep up the great work my friend.
Greetings from germany!
Your Videos are so amazing!
Best way to learn and relax a while.
Thank you for all this!
Sir your videos make my soul cry for want of a simple existence,Thank you for sharing them.
May God's blessings be with you.
I gotta say, I appreciate you sharing your craft like this a lot. Food + food-powered tools + wood = bed. I love it.
Wow! Unbelievable craftsmanship and incredible shooting of the vid was first rate.
As always, great work brother.
You are an inspiration to many.
Beautiful wood and great work. I'll warn you about those through mortises and tusk tenons. Guard your shins and toes!! Especially when the covers hang down. DAMHIKT!! Ouch! (Love your videos!)
You know you're doing good, chilled-out work when the cat is strolling along up in the middle of it! You are in the zone.
Beautiful! The figuring on the headboard was really nice. I liked the contrast between the posts and the rails. Thanks for sharing.
You are my inspiration I love your job, I hope to reach your level someday !!

An art to rediscover !! Big thumb up . I love your patience and dexterity .
That grain seemed to run everywhere and fought a good battle. Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing.
A very grave statement to make! Bless you Sir!
The little kitty seems to be very comfortable in your presence Sir!
Beauty!
Hot damn! Excellent depth control on those mortises. Keep making videos.
Very nice bed Mr. C I like your lathe a lot also! Thank you.
Great video and great work, as always. You are the anti-AvE, who is in love with his own voice. Quarter sawn white oak is beautiful. There is still no better way to fasten wood than wedges, even in 2019.
Quarter sawn/split wood is so nice looking!
Absolutely amazing beautiful ray fleck in the boards and great craftsmanship

I miss my grandfather with that "katam" the one producing curly woods.
❤Philippines💞
very nice craftsmanship young man the bed looks very beautiful. thank you for taking time to make good video's for us.
Chickadee enjoy watching you, use the skills you have👍.
Fantastic! .. I was just thinking how funny it would be if one of the shot's showed him pull out an 'Easy Woodturning Tools' scraper, or a pocket hole jig :D
Great that you share this knowledge.

Utterly beautiful and I really appreciate your work with the draw knife
Really good job. I’m making a shaker moon bed as we speak.
Man, haven't looked at your channel in a few months... you've been on fire! Love what you do!
Very impressive work as usual, it always gives motivation to keep working on my own project. Keep it up !
The best way things are made "by hand" thank you
