Fantastic band......my all time fav group...R.I.P. Bob & Mel.........u guys gave me so much joy in my younger days, listening & trying to play like you (lead guitar).....sigh!!
Gracias The ventures!!!!
You youngsters taking up guitars listen very closely and watch the finger work here and how they blend into each other with lead and rythem. Nobody else has ever copied this . THIS IS JUST THE BEST OF THE GREATEST EVER ! Man getting old just gets better with every passing day and it was my pleasure to live in this era with the greatest music man can make and we grew up with all of it . High School Dances , Parties , Drag Racing , Surfing , and then came Drugs and screwed up all of it !!
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE VENTURES AND STILL HAVE SOME OF THEIR ORIGINAL RECORD ALBUMS.I AM A GR- GRANDMOTHER AND WAS A TEENAGER WHEN THEY FIRST GOT POPULAR AND THEIR MUSIC WAS A VERY BIG PART OF MY LIFE. DOING GREAT FELLAS. ALICE
Its a pity they never came to England. No would be the time to bring out the "Young Ventures" After 50 years the music is still fresh to me. They were great.
WOOOOOOW HERMOSO CIERTO WOOOW QUE RECUERDOS TAN BELLOS Y GRATOS COMO O,VIDAR TAN HERMOSA MUSICA SIN DUDA LA MEJOR ES UNA BELLEZA QUE RECUERDOS TAN BELLOS Y GRATOS RECUERDOS QUE JAMAS VOLVERAN SOLO QUEDARÁN EN NUESTRO CORAZON MUY HERMOSOOOOOOOO AMO THE VENTURES
There guys had so many hits, they just kept cranking out this awesome style of song and what a sound it was. Hard to settle on one song as a Favorite. As they all were great sound hits. Imagine the energy, The practice sessions to make this all happen. I hope everyone can appreciate them for what they did. LEE
They started with Jazzmasters then got a Mosrite endorsement around '63. They stopped playing original Mosrites in the late 60s. Don started playing a 68 JM again sometime in the early 80s till 2002 as his main guitar. That guitar is now in the RR hall of fame. The guitars seen here Mosrite copies, they are: Bob playing a Ventures model Aria, Don playing a Wilson Bros VM75(i think) - Don's company. Nokie has his Hitchhiker guitar - his company.
i enjoyed these numbers which I used to play in my group during 70's. In 70's shadows and ventures were the most popular group and sought very much in India. It is really great to listen to those numbers like walk dont run, pefidia, apache and hawaii 5 O not to miss pipeline. k.gopu, chennai India
fantastic players right from the start! its nice to see Bob Bogle here....no doubt he has expired but he will always be with the Ventures! its like he is still around....thanks for the great music to all the rest of the other members in the Ventures!
@65metal Yes. The drummer is Leon Taylor, son of the deceased Mel Taylor. And yes, Bob and Nokie switched up between lead guitar and bass. Bob was the original lead guitarist. Not sure why they switched. But, good to see Bob back on lead guitar. I actually work with Bob's grandson. Pretty neat.
Nokie0064, Thanks a lot. I have been listening to them for 48 years now...and still picking up their stuff..What a performance? The videos here are great, but still is there a DVD out there?
You fabulous folks got to come to Malaysia for a gig as there are a lot of oldies (still alive of course, well, some have gone to the happy hunting ground!) here who were influenced by your great music during the '60's.
@daveandy1 Thanks for the info, I thought that may be the case that they either switched or alternated between eras and/or songs. Also interesting to know you work with Bob's grandson. Do the surviving members perform yet today? If so I would like to see them.
Ventures are the reason I learned to play guitar. Imagine making a living at this? It's been great...now arthritis got me...bitch!! So now I teach. Man oh man look at Nokie go! Problem with the Mosrites - you could never keep them tuned.
The red guitar is a Aria Ventures model - not made anymore and a copy of the original Mosrites they uses from '65 to '69. It has P90 pickups which are 'hotter' than the Mosrites. The bass being played is a Fender Ventures model P-bass reissued in '96 to 98?
I don't think they owned a 58. 58's are VERY rare since that was the JM's first year. Walk Don't Run was played on Bob's new 60 JM. The one going into the RRHOF is a 61 pictured on The Colorful Ventures. Don's most played JM was a 68. Paste this into youtube: Fender at NAMM 2008: Interview w/ Don Wilson of the Ventures
To 65 metal. Yes the lead guitarist (Nokie Edwards) actually joined the band as a bassist. Think they made like 4 albums or so. Then him and Bob Bogle switched from lead to bass.
@fincaman2 they did tons of their own ..but never received the cdedit or airplay they deserved..tunes like endless dream ...surfrider...pedal pusher and at least a hundred more [ginza lights another one ]..were excellent instrumentals ..but only the people who followed this type music ever heard them ..no airplay ...
@Zeigler68 Sorry but The Ventures were virtually unknown in England The Beatles would have been more influenced by The Shadows. It was only guitar nuts like me who followed The Ventures. Even now in the whole of Europe the average pop fan wouldn't have heard of The Ventures
Actually I believe that originally Nokie played bass and Bob played lead, Somewhere along there, they switched. The drummer is Leon Taylor, Son of Mel. BTW Mel was the older brother of Larry Taylor Bassist for Canned Heat

Those were days!!
45 years and probably thier most crisp performance. Unbelievable!!! And I've got a woman.... are you kidding Nokie?
fantastic players right from the start! its nice to see Bob Bogle here....no doubt he has expired but he will always be with the Ventures! its like he is still around....thanks for the great music to all the rest of the other members in the Ventures!
The Masters. I started playing guitar because of these gents. R.I.P. Mel T & Bob B!
Best instrumental ever.

Oh my goodness. They are still so great. Now this is a band.
Nokie0064, Thanks a lot. I have been listening to them for 48 years now...and still picking up their stuff..What a performance? The videos here are great, but still is there a DVD out there?

@ daveandy1 yes it's nice to see Bob Bogle on guitar again.
when i was teenage, they're the favorite of mine.
You fabulous folks got to come to Malaysia for a gig as there are a lot of oldies (still alive of course, well, some have gone to the happy hunting ground!) here who were influenced by your great music during the '60's.
Their version of I Got A Woman is the BEST!
anybody know who did it?
@daveandy1 Thanks for the info, I thought that may be the case that they either switched or alternated between eras and/or songs. Also interesting to know you work with Bob's grandson. Do the surviving members perform yet today? If so I would like to see them.

Good music without blowing your eardrums out.

OMG Bloody brilliant - that la vai lon

Actually Walk Don't Run is a Johnny Smith original, so this a cover of a cover. ;D
Yea, search for it. It's only avalible from Japan for $45.

Used to be a big Jaguar guy till I discovered the Jazzmaster!
@gretschsounds He's playing Bass on the first song and lead on the next.

Did the lead guitar player play bass at one time? Also, is the drummer new to the group?
Actually I believe that originally Nokie played bass and Bob played lead, Somewhere along there, they switched. The drummer is Leon Taylor, Son of Mel. BTW Mel was the older brother of Larry Taylor Bassist for Canned Heat
Still the same, thank god I hoped on this
@mlkemper I accept what you say but if you listen to their greatest hits album every one is a cover.
My humble guess is that they are both Wilson Bros. models.
Did they ever do anything original or ws it just covers
Let's do the Surfer Stomp. Does anyone remember?
Don't you really just wonder who the three "dislikes" are?
When did Bob die?
Leon, is as good as his dad. =Stefan+
