Glad to see you enjoying your Mantra! I did a resto mod on my 98 Mantra Race. I used a Fox Float 100 RLC, 2x9 FSA Afterburner crankset, SRAM XO twisters & RD, XTR 11-34, CrossMax SL’s. Ti eggbeaters & all Ti hardware. Mine is a Medium and I have it right at 23.5 lbs with real tires. I have Schwalbe 26 tires in various tread designs NIB and reasonably priced if anyone needs them.
Hi Chris! Thanks for the comment please take a moment to subscribe, I appreciate the support! Sounds like an awesome build, congrats 👏 I love the retro rebuilds like this!!
I have a 2000 Mantra Race hanging in my parents basement. Hung it there after breaking two ribs downhilling it and being ejected over the handlebars. It's beautiful but lethal to ride in anything technical.
Oh no that sounds painful! I actually mentioned in this or Part 2 of this video I would definitely not downhill or something extreme like that on this bike haha! Take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already and definitely check out part 2! Honestly they make killer XC and singletrack bikes, maybe it's time to bring it back out and give it a makeover to shred the local trails! Part 2: ruclips.net/video/auzZc0yWfEE/видео.html
I have a klein mantra 2000 (Trek era) with spin tri spoke wheels, I only use it to ride in the city, excellent bicycle made with quality in the USA, it steals more looks than any 29r carbon with chinese parts, no equal , the klein mantra it is an excellent bicycle, greetings from Mexico.
Hi Yama, thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! Sounds like a stunnner of a bike man! Those carbon wheels are awesome too, I agree with ya too they don't make 'em like this anymore! You should checkout part 2 on this bike if you haven't already too, no spin carbon wheels but lots of other goodies! Hope all is well in Mexico and be safe out there!
😂😂😂 Bro! The pain and hilarity of that intro! Just discovered the channel. I had this exact bike years ago! Had an Orange Manitou fork from the factory. Bought mine new and I’m pretty sure it was $2800. Not sure why I sold it but seeing one again sure brings back the memories. Enjoyed the video! And yes, this thing bucked me a few times. Definitely a wild feeling ride. Lol (If you ever get tired of this one, shoot me a message 👍)
Thanks for the kinds words, I am so glad everyone loves that intro haha the song was just perfect for it too. Also, don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already! I always do old school builds like this too, but I no longer have this one. Actually, one very lucky 15 year old kid is out there racing this bike now haha! Pretty sick it's out there competing in 2021 though!
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY already subbed after half way through the first video I watched 👍 That’s so awesome that a youngster is out there racing that thing! The final build was great! Happy for the kid that he has it to whip around!
You rule, thanks again I really appreciate that and the kind words! I cant agree more with you, actually I'm super jealous haha that kid is gonna be shredding in style for years to come! Makes me super happy to see it doing exactly what I built it for though! Always cool to see an old relic get another competitive run, 20 years later and total technology change in the industry too!
Until they moved all production to trek in 2002 "I think" they were still made in Chehalis Washington by the same crew. My dad worked for Klein in the 90's.
Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Yeah I think people didn't like the changes Trek made when they took over production, but to me it's all a bit silly. Both Klein versions are awesome and I loved building this one! Cool to hear about your dad too! 😎
Just got a yellow one and it’s in the shop right now after inspection and maintenance work. But got it for $200 and is in good condition, so it was a steal. But are there any part replacements or mechanism changes you might recommend that can help compensate for going downhill?
Hi Brian, please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! I would normally ride it until stuff fails but I would for sure consider updating the groupset to something similar like I did on this bike, the newer stuff shifts so much better and is much more robust too! Congrats on the new bike man, that is a great deal and a super fun bike too! Consider some XT brakes off of ebay too, they stop better than budget hydraulic disc brakes IMO! If you have a stock Mantiou or similar fork definitely consider a upgrade, a RockShox SID is a great go to for 26" bikes!
Hello, I need to disassemble my klein bicycle because I am restoring it and I need to paint it and I have not been able to disassemble the rear chassis because I do not know what tool is needed, can you tell me what it is called or where I can get the tool to disassemble this part, thanks. I can't upload the image, I'll explain what part it is: it's the union between the black part and the orange part where there is a screw and a nut with two holes, do you know what tool it is?

Klein quantum race is a vintage dream bike for sure.
I'm with you Liam! Though I love pretty much all the Kleins haha!

Great video. I have a 96 Mantra, all XT/XTR and I changed the front shock to a Manitou Black, and the Rear to a Fox Float RC. I love it..
Hi GTF sounds like an awesome Klein build! Please take a moment to subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already, thanks!

Alejandro this Klein frame has a unique system to the rear triangle, I would suggest taking it to a bike shop if you aren't familiar.
All the Mantras had 8-speed cassettes in 1998.
That is correct, this one came to me modded with 9 speed
