I did too! Its unfortunate it didn't catch on. Much higher res than 3DS, unfortunately very few games (Gameloft ran the service). I have a theory that it made some people sick because they didn't keep the phone (edit- or 3DS) exactly in the same spot. Then, Nintendo solved it with very excellent Eye Tracking in the New 3DS. But it was too late, the damage was done, the public mindset was made up.
@@Denki hey Ken it may sounds like a pain for you, but could you talk about htc from their 1st gen until last one before they stop making phones anymore? 😅
@@Denki I don’t know why but I always had those quirky phones. One of my first touch phones was a Samsung DJ phone. It was roundly shaped and marketed as a phone for DJs and music people who want to remix their music 🙈 maybe you could have a look at this as well. Anyway thanks for your videos. My inner tech curiosity is back thanks to you
Lmao what eras are you in, basically everyone care about cameras. For work, for enjoyment, for social media, capturing memories. In the age of social media not caring about camera is the weird one
I like this series. Makes me feel better about not blowing money on products I thought I wanted due to hype only for them to turn out disappointing. Keep it up, Denki!
I actually looked into it a few days ago as a potential option to be my walkman since it still has a heaphone jack, a good battery, a design that speaks to me and it looks to be well built
I feel like not having the best quality camera (or even a flagship quality one from 2018, both Samsung and Apple had better cameras on their flagships) was a huge misstep for RED. You're a camera company making a product which has a camera, why isn't it the best part of the phone?
I saw one in the wild while working retail. The guys at Verizon upsold her on that phone and she paid full retail price on it. She had it for three years and hated the thing and was upset because the guy there told her it was the best phone on the market. Phone was so sluggish and I nerded out seeing it. My boss looked at me weird cause she was a manager of a phone place but knew little about them so she didn’t understand my excitement seeing the legendary failure.
Yep, this phone absolutely bombed when it came out. It's interesting to see how it's aged. I still think that anything over $50 USD is way to much for it.
Was never interested in this phone. I thought the hardware would be better glad I never bought into the hype. Also $1300 for a basically dead phone , oooof.
It would have been smarter for them to focus on the audio side of things... like as a recorder and playback device, both with Red cameras, and others. But yeah, it made no sense then, and makes evel less sense now.
You never talked about the cpu, ram, storage? What android version did it come with, etc, Also why the red batteries in the background. Thought it was going to be mentioned interchangeable batteries or something.
I had to convince my dad to not buy this phone at AT&T when it released and when were looking back at it a couple years ago he thanked me for convincing him to not buy it
I remember The red hydrogen one phone I really liked it even though it was dead to begin with but it looked really good and unusual it was built like a tank ready for war and that's what made it stand out and unique from every other phone on the market at that time back then
I remember working for Verizon and selling this phone. We had a whole dedicated promotion page just for this phone in the directory. Just for preparation. But after a week of the r phone being released, nothing. Just silence. It really did not go as far as anticipated
I forgot that this phone existed, happy to get reminded, thank you. My ideal phone as one of many who got the EOS M just for Magic Lantern, would be one with a gorgeous 2.39:1 screen ratio, focusing on quality rather than high hz for gaming. Maybe give it some flash-shoe adapter magic so it can act an EVF as well.
All jokes aside I actually uses the Red hydrogen one titanium as my daily driver switching from my Sony Xperia Pro i with Sony Alpha grade features for a very dated sub-par phone of 2018, you're right 2017-2018 was the most innovative year for smartphones to date like Vertu, cryto Sirin Labs Finney Ui & the best ever camera phone the HTC One M9... I bought mine on Amazon precisely as a novelty phone for it's 3D screen.
I got one of the Titanium ones about a year ago. I've had to use it a few times because my Fold phone had to go in for repairs. It's not great by any means, but it's better than I'd imagined. I think I spent $150 on it. It's too bad this failed so miserably.
I actually like the red hydrogen one phone since I like how well built the phone is since it does not use glass that is fragile and is guaranteed to shattered without a case. I like the unique and grippiness of the phone to make it easier to hold since glass back phones feel slippery like a bar of soap lol. Smartphone photography is actually the lowest priority when I use a smartphone since I was used to using a real camera before smartphones became popular to take pictures and record videos. I like using the buttons and learning how to use a real camera because of the experience and getting to understand how to take pictures and record videos properly without computational photography and videos since they are more natural and accurate than using the smartphone. Taking pictures with smartphones is the equivalent of of having ai since they are artifical instead of being natural and accurate since the majority of consumers use a bunch of stuff that alters the photos like filters and whatever stuff that the consumers use when they take pictures. I rather take pictures with a real camera like with film camera since they are not artifical like computational photography with ai since real cameras rely on the actual hardware and not fake pictures to make something look like than what it's supposed to be. For example, in audio, professional recording studios use studio monitors because they want to have the most accurate sound quality without adding anything to alter the sound quality because it affects the accuracy of the audio fidelity. I treat photography in the same way as recording audio in the professional recording studio with studio monitors. Smartphone photography is similar as using consumer audio because consumer audio sounds nice to the average consumers even though they are not as accurate much like smartphone photography looks nice but not as accurate and natural and real. Smart phone photography is mainly catered to the average consumers because the majority of consumers already have a smartphone since it's easier to use and understand than real cameras because of the basic features and functionality of taking pictures and recording videos. Most people use there phones to do most of the things that they do since it's convenient because the smartphones do almost everything.
I got magisk installed but then it came to step four in the root guide and I messed it up now it's bootlooping I can get back to fastboot mode and all that but I can't do this stuff anymore I been outta touch since hs. Health problems kept me away now I feel like I'ma have to donate to have someone teach me how to root this phone. I got mine for 35 bucks on eBay great deal! I love mine can't wait to fix it one day. Good luck everyone else.
most people who wanted those accesories probably just bought some motorella phone probably because they were qaurter of the price and actually had accesories for it
I like videos going back to near past tech. It reminds me not to go grab things like this phone on the hype and wait for technology to mature. I remember the Red phone being talked up as the thing that would turn everyone into professional videographers, then it came out.
RED’s are over rated. If you’re shooting RUclips clips with a RED you really have lost the plot and love creating more pain for yourself. Yes I have one - and yes I still think they are crap. Prefer my Varicam or by S5H to RED anyday.
This phone only scores around 160,000 antutu benchmark pretty low for around 100 bucks I just picked up a Motorola edge 2022+ for 110 on eBay that scores around 1000000 antutu
Wasnt dksliked at all. Maybe talk to users instead of making crap up. It was poorly reviewed which made it cheap fast which made it the best phone i ever had. I still use 1 for my business phone.

It is defenitly interesting and maybe funny that Nikon bought the Red company. I remember when I first bought a good quality camera that I bought a Canon Eos 70D because I already got an older cheap DSLR from my father. And I remember a friend to have the Nikon alternative to this canon camera I have and that camera was definitely not as good with video making as the canon. So Nikon is really not anything special for making Videos. Only good for photo making
Moto mods are the s*** I have a Motorola Moto Z4 that I picked up for 50 bucks off of eBay and I don't regret it with the Bluetooth speaker attached to the back and the wraparound bumper case I'm able to string a necklace and hang it while I walk the dogs hands-free listening to Audible or RUclips or also use my phone as a body camera. Moto mods are the s*** it's the future. If I had a phone newer than this and it didn't have a Bluetooth speaker on the back of it I would be downgrading. Sound quality is half the enjoyment of gaming or anything.
I like to imagine some sorta alternative reality where red dominated the market with the best camera phone with a bayonet mount for pro grade style lenses instead of whatever it was they made

Bold of them to call it Hydrogen One, because it implies that a Hydrogen Two was a consideration 🫡
I think what they meant by Hydrogen One is that there will only be one "Hydrogen One"
Nothing more than that lol
No it doesnt. HTC One, Xperia One, Xbox One, I'm sure there are more... But I remember this phone! I considered it at one point.
Hydrogen is the first element on the periodic table with one proton, one neutron and one electron.
You should take a look at the Samsung galaxy folder or the Samsung w2019 which is a higher end version of the folder.
Denki, I thumbs down the video NOT cause it was bad I just didn't want to be the A.Hole who changed the 666 likes.
Hydrogen 1 from expensive to just a piece of junk for your collection
Not junk and still funxtional and better than a new 120 sollar phone. Capjtalism melted brains here.

I had the HTC Evo 3D back then and its 3D party trick was amazing. I love it when Companies are experimental like that
