Thank you so much. Doing the grout is my biggest issue. I never like it. I’m really excited to try this. Very original. 😊 I watch your videos but always forget to like them. 🤦♀️
I have always loved collecting cute little miniatures, but it's only been recently after watching your videos that I have even thought of making my own! All I can say is WOW! 😮 You have such clever, unique and cheap techniques for everything you create! You are a wealth of knowledge and a great instructor. Thank you for sharing and inspiring your viewers😊😊
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I love doing dioramas, but I challenge myself to do crafts without spending money, and this is exactly what I've been looking for for so many of my projects😊😊
This is the first tutorial I've found that could mimic dressed granite blocks as instead of brick or wooden siding, I want to make mine a granite house as found in Aberdeen and on royal Deeside in north-east Scotland where I grew up. I just need to experiment with the paint and (possibly) some sort of glitter to get the famous sparkle
You took the words out of my mouth, Ara. I wanted brick work on the outside of my Dollhouse so this will be idea for it. I will also checkout the other brick video. Thanks so much for the tip! I will be sure to mention your Channel when I do the work.
I love how you talk in your videos trying to act like you're not a maniacal creative genius haha I adore your channel so much! You inspire me. xoxo You're like the Macgyver of crafting...or inspector gadget even lol Thank you for being so fantastic.
I'm making a Christmas town that has two levels and needed a stone wall to separate the lower from the upper level. Your instructions were amazing. I really learned a skill that will help me in other towns, war, battle and sci-fi dioramas . Thank You!
This looks awesome. I had learned this method a few years ago and used it to make a stone "floor" in a castle my daughter and i were making. The main difference was that I had cut my "stones" to 3 or 4 different sizes (all rectangle and squares). What i really appreciated from your video was the coloring techniques you used here as i really liked the way it turned out! I just happened across this video but i was so impressed that now I am going to go check out the rest of your channel!😊
I love this whole project! The hearth stone work is super convincing! Thanks because, like I have said beforehand, the fact that you dont go overboard on measurements, it makes the techniques you use much more translatable into different scales.
Thank you! A lot of my viewers don't make miniatures, so I don't like to be excessive in instruction. It's a better balance between entertainment and information.
I am obsessed with your channel. Your knowledge, creativity, technique and artistry are so amazing! I watch your videos with the excitement of a kid in a candy store! You are brilliant! And your voice is very soothing. Thank you so much!
I have saved many egg cartons and randomly ripped them into “stones” to add to the exterior of my witch dollhouse. This video has awesome tips and tricks. I will definitely be using your methods. Thank you for what you do!
This would definitely be a great technique to use in building an ancient fireplace, housing a cauldron for a witch’s kitchen or maybe a pilgrim’s home.
Oh, this is very helpful. I really like the result with the powder. I'm glad you experiment for me lol. I literally have no room to make a mess at the moment.
Not sure what I like best the stones on the cardboard or the stones in your ring but, just to say I would be hard pressed to choose think I will plump for the egg carton stones, thanks for a great presentation, appreciated, love yer work.
Thank you so much! My ring is moissanite. It's the second hardest gemstone, and much cheaper than diamonds. But it looks very similar to diamonds. I love it!
New Sub 👍🏼 I love the results. I paint miniature+ ceramics and always use egg cartons to cushion and separate my works. Eventually, the egg trays start breaking down and, I will, soon, try my hand at diorama making and the e.ts will definitely have another great purpose in art. I thank you for your inspirational content. Have an inspiring week of Happy Crafting 🖌️🙂
I was pondering how to raise the height of my Victorian oven so this idea is perfect for a convincing old stone base. Really glad I found your channel. Look forward to future creative ideas that are so clearly illustrated and narrated. Bless you.
How funny is it that i just watched your wine box kit and said i gotta see how she does her egg crate flooring!! And there it is!!! I think yours have really turned out amazing. Im probably going to "borrow" some of your techniques. Ill give you credit in my video tho. Lol
This is a really great idea! I have discovered many tricks/tips employed by those enjoying different hobbies from mine (model railroading) and this is another. Subscribed. Thanks for sharing.
That is a really neat way of placing the stones and doing the grouting. I love the wrap around look. I'm new at doing miniatures and I really appreciate instructional videos. BTW, Ara from Bentley House Minis, sent me. She shared the link to this video in a patreon post.
Thank you so much! Welcome to my channel and the world of miniatures. Ara is a fantastic miniaturist and a wonderful person. I really appreciate her sharing this video. I'm also a Patron of hers. I'll have to go check out the post. Thank you again!
I have made several fireplaces, walkways, chimneys and floors using coffee carrier trays, which is the same effect as the egg cartons. I have then painstakingly used a toothpick in between with spackle ~ I like this method of grouting better! Thanks so much for the tips! The hearth looks great :)
thanks for this tutorial . You said more details and make me understand more .For example , I just knew that I have to paint blue in the piece ( never think of that ).I am not about color
I love your tutorials! I'm muddling my way through a mini project where I want some grungy exterior walls and your egg carton stone method looks like just what I was wanting. I've used pressed paper packaging to make rough bricks for a dollhouse chimney, but I had been thinking somewhat smoother stone surfaces would be nice. You nailed it!
You're welcome! Here's a video from Little Gretchen's Workshop showing a similar technique. Instead of cutting the stones, she tore them so they look more like rocks. ruclips.net/video/-6GDYzjXFzo/видео.html
Thank you for this tutorial. I've been planning on added egg carton stones to the base of my dollhouse, but dreading and avoiding it because I think it'll look so bad.
Egg carton stones almost always turn out great. If you're nervous about adding them directly to your dollhouse, you could make the stones on a cardstock or cereal box template first and then attach them to the dollhouse if you like how it looks.
Thank you for explaining the processes you used to achieve the wonderfully realistic stone effect. Watching your videos, I'm impressed by your attention to detail - which of course add to the illusion you are making. I have an idea to make model of the room that the Borrowers lived in; from the BOOK (which was read to me in 1952, when it first came out) not the films. In this, the scale would not be too important since all the contents should be authentically 'borrowed' - a cotton reel table for example. On second thoughts, would you make one? Then I can make one too, following your instructions! very best wishes from the UK. Jacky

This is wonderful and so well-explained! Do you think it would be possible to tint the grout beforehand by mixing chalk pastels into the plaster before laying it down?
Yes! In this video, I show how to use the mortar method as well as the grout method. You can tint the spackle with pastels or paint. ruclips.net/video/iqE0xu5KQs8/видео.html

Perfect! I don't have any of those because I don't drink coffee but I have some great inserts from boxes with nice big stone texture. They're a prized possession at this point. Idk what I'll use them for. It's gotta be great 😆
