This was an exceptionally great demo of how to make the bricks themselves and then how to finish them so they look realistic. Your explanations are pitch perfect.
I know you must spend a ton of time on that part, but it’s so well done and when you stick some of that dry humor in there, it makes it even better -if that’s possible …!!!!!!
Wow!💥 This was absolutely AMAZING! The details are spot on perfect! And I love how you taught each and every step of each type of bricks. You really did a magnificent job on this tutorial! Thank you so much!💥❤💫
Using the common red brick as an example you can protect the colour with acrylic Matt varnish, let it dry then spray with hair spray, let it dry then a wash of acrylic white, let it dry. Then using a brush moistened with water remove some areas of the white paint. This then gives the appearance of a distressed white washed wall. You can use this method for various colours even by applying varnish over your distressed white paint look to protect it. then applying another colour and distressing that as you did with the white. Hope this makes sense.
I am new to your channel and have never, and probably will never ever make anything for a dolls house, but I find this so interesting and relaxing. You are so clever and inventive, I am working through all of your videos. Thank you for your efforts. You just got yourself a new subscriber.
I love that you show so many different variations and options! It cuts down so much experimenting time for me and also shows me options I didn't even consider before! Really awesome video, thank you so so much!
Wow, you did all of the research for us and presented the options. Thank you. The brick with the moss remined me of my parent's old brick driveway and patio collecting moss in places...before the pressure washer came out. LOL
The voice is very soothing and calming almost fell asleep she could read lovabies to put babies asleep like me after this step procedure video is done oh yeah very professional craftswomanship!! All day I'm to words that teach me!
Have not tried my hand at bricks yet but gives me some ideas for real. I have been wanting to make a basement with cinder blocks and stone. Cool, thanks for sharing and you have a great day
ruclips.net/video/uPuS0IrO_Lo/видео.htmlsi=UFq6PiaPl7_mxHc7 I just developed this technique. It would save you a ton of time when it comes to making a cinder block wall or stone. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I am so happy with how these bricks turned out. I had so much footage to edit of things I tried. I'm glad I was able to make a coherent video.
@@queencityminis all the different things you tried were really helpful to see and compare. I had been struggling to save up egg crates to use but went out today and bought a roll of cork and can't wait to get to work. Hoping my results come out as good as yours with some practice!
Thank you for this. I improvised a bit, and went the cheaper route - I used the flat/top part of a styrofoam egg carton instead of the cork. Worked awesome and the 'bricks' came out thicker than if I used the corkboard. Awesome tutorial.
You have a gift for clearly explaining great crafting ideas. Many years ago, I messed around with a cork retaining wall for my model railroad layout. The texture was great but having to glue pieces of cork roadbed together for the desired height and length was far from ideal. Thin rolled sheets of cork that are readily available today solve that problem. Come to think of it, a block/stone retaining wall made from thin rolled cork would be a good contrast to the 'poured concrete' walls made with foam core/strip wood already on my layout. Alas, cutting HO scale bricks isn't happening with the tools I have at my disposal, lol. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment! I took a lot of time planning this video, testing different methods, editing the footage and doing the voiceover. A lot of time and work goes into it. I appreciate it so much when it's helpful and/or entertaining to any of you.
So clever! Cork! What a great idea! I've already watched the brick wall video several times. I don't have a need for bricks right now but I sure want to try this!❤
Как мило, что у вас есть субтитры! И как замечательно, что вы показали разные способы изготовления кирпичной стены, её шпаклёвки и покраски. Большое спасибо за вашу работу! С уважением из России! 💖
This video really helps simplify varying brick methods. It certainly has given me more options to consider. Thank you for presenting such an informative video!
@@queencityminis , I certainly understand about the editing. I sometimes have so much footage on a video it is insane, lol. Well, the work you did on this video really paid off. Great job!
I'm very new to miniatures and I was so grateful that I found your channel !! I've been pouring over your videos and I've been learning so much !! I'm getting ready for my first project and I'm very excited about it. After watching so many of your videos I'm very confident that I can do this . . . Thank you so much for all of the time you've put in making all of your videos !!
I am so happy to hear that! I KNOW you can do it. Have fun! I edit my videos to make them concise but I make a lot of mistakes and redo it. Don't worry about making mistakes. This is fun. Nobody's life is on the line 😆
This was fun. To see all the diff types. I keep going back and forth between wanting to do cinderblock or brinck for my dollhouse foundation. Also you can get cork at dollar tree with the sticky back
I haven't seen a cinder block foundation but that would definitely take less time 😆 I've never seen it but I'll keep my eyes peeled for cork at my local Dollar Tree.
Shyra, your tutorials are fantastic! When I saw this one in particular, I just had to try it out. So, I'm in the process of creating a brick wall with window - just now finished putting the mortar in and can't wait for it to dry. Why? Because I'm excited about adding the moss! 😄 Oh, it's the simple things in life that make it all worth doing. 😅 Thank you so much for your videos - they're wonderful!! 🥰
And to think I almost didnt watch this video, thinking I knew how to make fake brickwork already. So glad I did watch it, thanks for the new techniques. I can't wait to try them out soon. I'm looking forward to your next video 😊
I have just discovered your channel. I love your calm manner and clear diction, not to mention your fine miniatures. I have made faux brick walls using other methods, more of a stacking rustic type brick wall for ruins mostly. I haven't fully investigated your channel yet, but I was wondering if you have ever created anything such as an old cemetery/graveyard scene? If not would you ever consider a tutorial of that kind of scene? Thank you for sharing your excellent skills.😊
I was about to start a fireplace with paper clay on cardboard but I really like this technique for bricks- corners would be easier and there would be much less warping. 😎
I was really impressed how the cardboard didn't warp at all with this technique. I also tried it on cereal box as well as a thick cardstock and it warped.
That looks AWESOME. I like this technique better (I think) than the last few techniques I tried. Will give it a go and let you know! Thanks again so much!
Please do! I have a lot of fun making paperclay bricks but this gives the most realistic look of any technique I've seen. To save time, you can get away with rounding most of the bricks and leaving some with rectangle edges.
First let me say between you and Ayra I may eventually become good at minis. So thanks! Now let me mention the adhesive on the back of my Amazon cork roll , holy cow! Don’t let anything touch it before you cover it with your pattern. I may still have bits of cork glued to random body parts and craft tools. However my bricks eventually looked awesome. Including the one on my forehead. Love you child! Keep making!!
That's hilarious 😆 The adhesive is definitely very sticky. You can imagine how unfun it is to peel the backing off each brick and try to get them in the right place on the first try.
Wonderful ideas. Think the only thing missing was the German Smear look but I believe I can create that just based on your process flow. Thank you again for the great ideas. Wouldn't have thought about cork roll.
I had to google it. I didn't know what a German Smear was. If I was doing 1:6 brick, I'd take the time to add that detail. Classic! May be too small to see at 1:12 though.
Brilliant! Now I suppose I have no reason not to replace the printed sheets of "brick" in my project with something much more realistic.........the things I learn from you and the other accomplished miniaturists is invaluable. Thank you!
I haven't tried sanding them, but I did stack them to slice multiple corners off at once with a craft knife. Doing them one at a time is more precise, but also more time consuming.

I never would have thought to use cork. Something about seeing the grouting method is satisfying to me. Great tips!
Thank you :) I use the grouting method on egg carton stones but I'm eager to try the mortar method next time.
