I think Lucky being an Octopus fits perfectly. Once an Octopus grabs hold of prey, it's hard for it to let go, much like how people struggle with a gambling addiction.
I so want that statement to be canon. That means that there were a lot of soaked shorts after Oleander's boot camp in the first game. Also gives a real consequence to dying in game, where there otherwise is none.

I quite liked the lucktopus as a first boss. It’s a good summation of all your abilities so far and is a test of telekinesis and mental connection. The theming of this boss was spectacular too.
