The interweaving you mentioned for part 2 always seemed like the composer's way to representing the final boss's temper and how it contrasts with Peppino. The final boss has the manic sampling of a 1920's song that straddles the line between playful and violent, while metal guitars and drumming highlight the sections representing Peppino. Brilliant sequence either way
Tunnely Shimbers deserves some love for striking a perfect balance between ambient and melodic. Really brings out some Fusion-type vibes to me for some reason.
I did not expect him to play along with it. I have not seen or heard an electric violin. That blew my mind. That is one of the coolest sounds I have ever heard.
"When You Get What You Want, You Don't Want It" is the perfect song to sum up how petty and capricious the final boss of this game is. It only makes sense that it'd be sampled for part 2.
The composer really just went a decided to make one of the greatest and most memorable soundtracks arguably ever to the goofiest game I’ve seen in years, absolute madlad
I was obsessed whit undertale but i don't watch undertale content anymore I even watched comic dubs about undertale ITS LIRERALY LIKE UNDERTALE TO ME Also I played undetale finished it,finished pizza tower too it is just amazing undertale had a special place for me but now pizza tower is there and I love it
pizza tower has that undertale level power of getting a smash official mii costume WITH THE TRACK and this is the track that is added in as for the mii costume i say the noise
I haven't encountered a game OST this big and varied since Rayman 3. Rayman 1 too, to a lesser extent. A recent game by name of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos also has a *fantastic* OST. It's kind of like God Hand in gameplay, but styled like Oddworld.
Also (sorry for commenting twice) I appreciate the musical history you can give this soundtrack, Pizza Tower is an OMEGA 90s game, from 90s United States cartoon styled animation like Ren and Stimpy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and etc. And to be insanely Wario inspired, another 90s icon. It’s so cool to learn even the music follows this theme as well!
I love part 2 so much because of how much the sampling suits the character- he’s like a non serious overlord with a pizza head for a face, the almost whimsical feel of the sampling shows How he’s just not taking the battle seriously, probably because of a big ego
I absolutely ADORE all the returning leitmotifs from throughout the game coming in during this track, you should look up a video on your own time (if you'd like) that shows the different ones present in the song, some really surprised me!
I love this track's use of motifs to convey an underlying narrative, especially part 3. Part 3 uses melodies from previous songs and situations theyre used in that illicit a sense of power, chiefly the theme for "Lap 2" runs of a level. When you hit Pizza Time, its a mad dash to the escape danger. When you hit Lap 2, you're actively challenging that danger and daring it to stop you.
Fun Fact: Unexpectancy Part III is actually just a medley of tracks across the entire game, with motifs from tracks like Cold Spaghetti, Oregano Mirage, Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play [yes, that's the actual name] making appearances throughout. I know you've been getting tons of requests to review more tracks, but I recommend those tracks to take a listen to as well
Unexpectancy is split into 3 parts because of the boss phases and, in my opinion, the mood of Peppino during the battle. The first part is basically your climactic final boss as Peppino faces down the very character that wants to destroy his pizzeria. The second part is when the true mastermind appears, being a goofy, rubberhose 90s character, it is also shows in Pizzahead's attacks. The final part is Peppino's anger finally at his limits as Pizzahead literally pulls out the previous bosses from wherever they were at the tower and breaks every boss's mechanics in the game by just punching the living crap out of the bosses, ending in him sending a barrage of punches at Pizzaman so fast and hard, they start flying up to the sky where he then uses Pizzahead as a literal projectile to destroy the tower.
My favorite part about unexpectancy part 2 is how much it fits Peppino and the final boss. Peppino rage and frustration is clashing with the happy jaunty themes of the boss.
God I can't believe how hard that song slaps. It really rivals undertale, definitely up there with the absolute best. I was a 90s baby, and I think that's why Pizza Tower resonates with me so much. The entire game is a love letter to the 90s. Could not be happier pizza tower happened when it did.
When I tell you I about lost my shit when the "The Death I Deservioli" (which is the game's lap 2 escape theme) section comes in because it plays during a boss rush WHICH IS JUST A LAP 2 OF THE JOURNEY LEADING UP TO THE END??
I think my favorite part of Unexpectancy has to be the train horns in part 2. I don’t have much musical expertise in writing, but the train is so pointless and random that I always listen for when it comes back. This is actually something done a few times in the soundtrack, the other notable example I can think of is Monkey sounds in ‘Trees on my pizza’

I love your face as the realization hits as Unexpectancy part 2 ramps up with the vocal sampling. Really makes you think bout the song title in a literal sense
I'd forgotten you'd covered Pizza Tower vgm! I wasn't big into the game until recently, and I saw the community post where you mentioned your sub increase was due in most part to your Pizza Tower content. I CAN SEE WHY! I love that you are doing more of your riff/improv stuff because that has to be my favorite part of every cover you've done. You rock, SPG!
Every time i listen to thid i cant stop hearing the "take him on peppino! Beat his @ss peppino! MAKE HIM DROP PEPPINO" and the "you better think twice befote messing eith Italian blood" and the others😭😭😭
While you're here analyzing the Pizza Tower OST, I recommend my favorite track in the game: Bye Bye There! It's an amazing culmination of all the different motifs in Pizza Tower, so I also recommend looking into a few other distinct songs such as Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play while you are at it (yes, that is the name of the song). Edit: LMAO, I'm an idiot. The "motif" talk was really just me being hyped over Unexpectancy, which covers everything I mentioned before. Still, Bye Bye There! is an amazing revamped, more laid-back version of It's Pizza Time!
part 2 is so different from the other parts, and yet it doesn't feel out of place in a bad way. it might be my favorite piece from the entire game because of the wacky sampling that somehow works perfectly with the intense drums and guitars.
the sample for Unexpectancy PART 2 is "After You Get What You Want, You Don't Want It" song. Theres clipped voices from there, and the short old-school melody was the actual end of the song. Its amazing.
The third portion of Unexpectancy uses several leitmotifs from the earlier songs. In order, they are: The Death that I Deservioli (Lap 2 theme) Cold Spaghetti (Pizzascape B) Oregano Mirage (Oregano Desert theme) Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play (Refrigerator-Refrigerador-Freezerator theme) Tombstone Arizona (Wasteyard theme)
the last story the very end throws everything, and the kitchen sink at you all of the songs, all of the mechanics, all of the tricks such a good song and then the chaser ....
5:00 completely broke my brain wtf lmao, dude I just found your channel wth lol. My brain just blew up from that musical interjection you just laid down bro. You earned yourself a sub. 👍
A lot of people didnt catch this so if anyone didnt listen! In unexpectency part 3 it mixes a LOT of songs from the game in general. Someone the ones i could hear are The death that i deservioli - LAP 2 13:39 Cold spaghetti 14:29 TombStone Arizona - WasteYard 15:03 Oregano Mirage - Oregano Desert 15:36 Celsius Troubles - Refrigerator-Refrigerador-Freezerator B 16:43 YOU KNOW A GAMES SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING IF YOU CAN COMBINE MULTIPLE SONGS AND IT STILL SOUNDS AMAZING
A little fun fact about Unexpectancy part 1: It is actually a remix of a very old track the game's composer made for another project, with the track known as "Betrace - Calculator Fight". It really shows how much the composer's skills have improved over time if you compare the two.
When I first heard the song in the Pizza Tower Final Boss video, I noted that the vocals in the music and how the song played reminded me of the old timey 1930's rubberhose cartoons, like what you hear in Popeye the Sailor or the old Looney Tunes shorts! This make sense for PizzaHead, a villain who's got this whole cartoony wackiness to him!
Unexpectedly 1: the music gives you a big feeling your going against the final opponent the opponent throws back old enemys you've met before Unexpectedly 2: You managed to defeat the opponent but a true opponent was within it gives you a confusion feeling meeting the opponent Unexpectedly 3:you finally beated the unexpected opponent or did you the opponent not having a single scratch makes you feel uncomfortable even though you attacked the opponent with all your might but the opponent brings out the recent opponents you've defeated before you feel hopeless but... A raging anger alights within you the opponents feared you show your full rage causing another grand war unexpectedly 4: you now come face to face with your last you kept punching the opponent to the skies now with a final blow you smash the opponents head into the tower
Part 2 melted my brain, stirred it into a slurry, then somehow it came back together. I think it’s more the mindfuck and how it throws everything at me that keeps me coming back to listen to it. I feel like Mr Sauceman knew this would either convey the chaos of phase 2 or it would be too weird for fans… and it paid off really well.
Unexpectancy Pt 3 has many leit-motifs from many other pizza tower songs, including oregano mirage (Oregano Desert), and don’t pre-heat your oven because if you do the song won’t play (R.R.F)
Great video man! You should totally check out more of the OST. I suggest: Cold Spaghetti Tombstone Arizona Tropical Crust Bite the Crust Tubular Trash Zone PIZZA TIME NEVER ENDS (followed by Rise and shine, campers!) There’s a bone in my spaghetti! Thousand March Bye Bye There! Pizza Mayhem (With Vocals or Without) Even if you’ve already listened to the best song in the game doesn’t mean there isn’t more gems in it!
During part 2, while I don't remember the exact commercial name, the voice clips come from an old commercial that talked about selfish kids, claiming how just as kids get something they want, they no longer want it. The clips used make up the "lyrics": You want You don't want it You want You don't want it You want You don't want it At all At all
You’ve probably already seen something saying this, but Unexpectancy Part 2 samples a song from the 1920s called “When You Get What You Want, You Don’t Want It,” which is very fitting for the character you’re fighting in the boss, which is quite cool.
If you like chiptune with electric guitar and other rock instruments, look no further than Splatoon’s multiplayer tracks. You should definitely check out the songs by the fictional in-universe band Chirpy Chips, especially the song Blitz It! Those songs are absolute bangers
If you’re going to check out more Pizza Tower music, I highly recommend Yeehaw Deliveryboy as a track that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves.
The song they sample in part 2 is a song from the 50s called “when you get what you want you don’t want it” and the way it relates to the boss fight (specifically phase 2) is very interesting, but I’m not the most qualified to describe it (and I’m on mobile, so typing is a tad difficult) I recommend the comments on the video of the song, they explain it very well! Long story short however, the phase 2 boss is this cartoony character called pizza head who’s attacks involve frivolous discarding of items, and most of the levels could be interpreted (at least in the higher floors) as businesses he started, then abandoned
THANK YOU, Im really happy watching your reactions to this track! First time i listened to part 2 got me kinda hypnotized but curious about what was coming after! Needless to say, i was listening to the whole ost that evening
And as the title of the three part theme says. Unexpectancy is the name of the level this plays on cause you never expect what's coming up when it does
I like watching these videos as someone who isn't a native speaker and wants to learn how to describe music properly (it's also very convenient that it's associated with Pizza Tower which captured my interest just a few days ago and became one of my most favorite games over the last couple of years). Now I'll be able to say something else other than "Good", "Amazing", "Beautiful" and etc. lol
Phase 1: The final boss's theme Phase 2: The true final boss's theme Phase 3: The main characters theme. It embodies the phrase "I'm not trapped in here with you, your trapped in here with me!"
14:44 except Mr. Sauceman didn't come up with it. You also pointed out how it sounds similar to Megalovania at points, IE Toby Fox music, and you're right on the money. Mr. Sauceman is a Homestuck fan, Toby Fox being one of the key musicians for that series, and the combination of chiptunes, guitars, and orchestra, is the core identity of Homestuck's sound. Megalovania even made an appearance within Homestuck, years prior to Undertale starting development, Toby puts that track in pretty much everything he works on. For an excellent reference point, I reccomend comparing this track to Cascade from Homestuck, since it fills the exact same role of twisting all the musical range of its respective property into a single exemplary piece. The top result for searching Cascade _is_ the accompanying animation it was made for, but the album version has some differences if I remember correctly, so I'd just say to use the full video. Be warned that it IS 13 entire minutes long.
The 'interwoven' part of the song, the style of hard swapping between songs, sometimes of different genres, are called Song Battles. It's as though the two styles are fighting for supremacy.
Unexpectancy goes from "I really shouldn't be here" to "i don't know what the fck is going on " to "I am going to beat the shit out of you" which is why it is my favorite track in the game because it does such an amazing job at telling the story of the boss battle AND backing the player up. It first establishes the oppressive atmosphere of the boss fight while also mirroring the player's expectations. It then turns into a song that completely subverts the player's expectations, much like the pizzahead reveal, while also reminding the player that they're still fighting the final boss. And finally part 3 subverts the player's expectations one final time by backing up Peppino instead, essentially turning into your boss theme because by this point, Peppino is pissed and the player already knows how to beat these bosses (easily) and they're probably going "I don't care, I'll just do it again." And it transitions from a sort of "get out of my way!" Feeling to "it's just you and me... but not for long." All around one of the most thoughtfully composed tracks I've ever heard.

Brilliant sequence either way
Eo
Tunnely Shimbers deserves some love for striking a perfect balance between ambient and melodic. Really brings out some Fusion-type vibes to me for some reason.
yeah that track definitely deserves some attention, one of my personal favorites
Absolutely seconded. It's a genuinely great but overlooked track that I wish got some more appreciation and coverage.
Tunnely shimbers is a subtle banger and I'm all for it
Fusion as in Metroid Fusion? That’s a great callback I can totally see it
I did not expect him to play along with it.

It's Undertale all over again
@@cyan_2169 wait, there's a crap ton of mods for pizza tower too, IT ALL MAKES SENSE! now, for the AU's.

You can really tell that in part 3 that the tide turned in the hero's favor. He wasn't fighting the boss he became the boss.
this game has probably the best sound track I've heard. There is no song in the game I dislike. All of them are absolute bangers.
It's one of my favorite of all time right next to Undertale/Deltarune
I haven't encountered a game OST this big and varied since Rayman 3. Rayman 1 too, to a lesser extent.
A recent game by name of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos also has a *fantastic* OST. It's kind of like God Hand in gameplay, but styled like Oddworld.
i dont like fun farm and golf otherwise no bad songs
@@seeko9323 good eatin' is actually a really good song, i m surprised you dislike it, but its your opinion and i respect it.
it's one of my favorites next to miitopia and deltarune.
It’s so cool to learn even the music follows this theme as well!
you can edit comments so you don't have to comment twice
I love part 2 so much because of how much the sampling suits the character- he’s like a non serious overlord with a pizza head for a face, the almost whimsical feel of the sampling shows How he’s just not taking the battle seriously, probably because of a big ego
And yet, there's that one moment where there's a very serious insert as he's wondering if he might have overestimated himself.
Pizza tower has such an upbeat and adrenaline rush type of ost, and if you play it it makes it better. It's just PERFECT
The game took nearly a decade to make too. Development Started in 2018.
@@Catnado_22 dang, now that’s when u know it’s good when the devs take 2 years to make it
@@razorwolf2758 also to add to this, it just feels SMOOTH. the music being that way, and the movement of peppino too.
My favorite part of Unexpectancy 3 is the leitmotifs of other level themes. Namely Oregano Desert/Oregano Mirage. It gives me goosebumps
sol from isaac
I love how this dude just casually rips out his rock violin and makes the banger even bangier in the process
Fun fact: the intro to Unexpantancy Part 1 was actually taken from a piece the composer wrote for a game that ended up being scrapped.
what game was it?
@@ausarsiris8784 it got cancelled, so it never had an official release. If there was a name for it, I couldn’t find it.

@@ausarsiris8784 basically the original song game was "Calculator fight"
Fun Fact: Unexpectancy Part III is actually just a medley of tracks across the entire game, with motifs from tracks like Cold Spaghetti, Oregano Mirage, Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play [yes, that's the actual name] making appearances throughout. I know you've been getting tons of requests to review more tracks, but I recommend those tracks to take a listen to as well

@@JackgalagaI swear everyone forgets that.
he did that in the first episode
Man, this dude can really shred that violin, wow those mini covers, especially of part 3, are all insane
7:28 the voices in unexpectancy part 2 come from the song "After You Get What You Want, You Dont Want It" by Billy Murray
Thanks for being the 500th person to let us know. ;)
Or how in Yeehaw Delivery, there’s a guy in the background saying “more lettuce, more lettuce, hey what are you doing here?”
I also really like how the Golf theme has the sound effects of a guy microwaving something in the background, it's hilarious.

The final beating is my favorite part.
(If you don’t know that’s the motif near the end where it fades in, some people also call it the final slice)
16:36 It was only while watching this that I realized this part is a motif from "Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play".
The third portion of Unexpectancy uses several leitmotifs from the earlier songs.
In order, they are:
The Death that I Deservioli (Lap 2 theme)
Cold Spaghetti (Pizzascape B)
Oregano Mirage (Oregano Desert theme)
Don't Preheat Your Oven Because If You Do The Song Won't Play (Refrigerator-Refrigerador-Freezerator theme)
Tombstone Arizona (Wasteyard theme)

Oregano Mirage - Oregano Desert 15:36

I love how it goes from decent boss music to a really cartoony and chill and then it goes absolutely insane
To be fair, that’s basically the whole fight except it’s your character that goes insane
2:27-2:29 sounds kinda as sonics ring loss
UNEXPECTANCY part III you can hear a bit of THE DEATH THAT I DESERVIOLY
A little fun fact about Unexpectancy part 1: It is actually a remix of a very old track the game's composer made for another project, with the track known as "Betrace - Calculator Fight". It really shows how much the composer's skills have improved over time if you compare the two.
Gotta Love That Leitmof of Oragano Desert, it just sounds... Emotional let's say
It doesn't matter how many times you've played the fight, you HAVE to strike a taunt in sync with each orchestra hit in the OST
I loved part one so much bc you got so many of the 90's vibes and sounds correctly. The solos in this one were on point too. Love the videos!
Unexpectedly 1: the music gives you a big feeling your going against the final opponent the opponent throws back old enemys you've met before
Unexpectedly 2:
You managed to defeat the opponent but a true opponent was within it gives you a confusion feeling meeting the opponent
Unexpectedly 3:you finally beated the unexpected opponent or did you the opponent not having a single scratch makes you feel uncomfortable even though you attacked the opponent with all your might but the opponent brings out the recent opponents you've defeated before you feel hopeless but... A raging anger alights within you the opponents feared you show your full rage causing another grand war unexpectedly 4:
you now come face to face with your last you kept punching the opponent to the skies now with a final blow you smash the opponents head into the tower
Some people finding this part annoying and without rhythm
Unexpectancy Pt 3 has many leit-motifs from many other pizza tower songs, including oregano mirage (Oregano Desert), and don’t pre-heat your oven because if you do the song won’t play (R.R.F)

I love the fact he’s not too strict on the music and is just enjoying it. You rock man.
Unexpectancy part 2 is basically just tom morello plus the avalanches and i love it.
Calzonification is really cool too if you have an interest in westerns, given the context of the boss it was used on and the duel-style it has
16:36 In This part of Key Change, SAVE THE WORLD From Undertale fits perfectly... I can't hear This without SAVE anymore...
During part 2, while I don't remember the exact commercial name, the voice clips come from an old commercial that talked about selfish kids, claiming how just as kids get something they want, they no longer want it. The clips used make up the "lyrics":
You want
You don't want it
You want
You don't want it
You want
You don't want it
At all

The usage of the clips also reflects the antagonist's character very well, which is a really nice added detail to the song.
The sling was called “when you get what you want you don’t want it”
The damn ICE LEVEL AND GRAVEYARD LEVEL GOT SOME KICKASS MOTIFS IN PART 3.
You’ve probably already seen something saying this, but Unexpectancy Part 2 samples a song from the 1920s called “When You Get What You Want, You Don’t Want It,” which is very fitting for the character you’re fighting in the boss, which is quite cool.
You can infact hear in the background of 3 sometimes that a bit of parts of "a death that i deservioli" are played.
Pizza Tower is just wonderful altogether, it has mind blowing good music, very insane gameplay, and just amazing overall.
Part 2 specifically samples "After You Get What You Want, You Don't Want It At All", by Irving Berlin.
I really suggest doing the boss tracks along with thousand march from pizza Tower's WAR level, cuz theyre all FRICKIN AMAZING
you should make a video on the rest of the boss themes! (Calzonification, pumpin' hot stuff, and pizza time never ends)
If you like chiptune with electric guitar and other rock instruments, look no further than Splatoon’s multiplayer tracks. You should definitely check out the songs by the fictional in-universe band Chirpy Chips, especially the song Blitz It! Those songs are absolute bangers
Tenebre Rosso Sangue, its a song you need to listen to, its from the ultrakill soundtrack, its legendary
Finally someone who can add to a song and actually make it sound good
What I love about Unexpectancy (Part 3) is that how well mixed-in the arpeggios (that are similar to the ones in "The Death That I Deservioli") are!
If you’re going to check out more Pizza Tower music, I highly recommend Yeehaw Deliveryboy as a track that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves.
Cane B just uploaded a remix of that song!
Your reaction to part two when the samples swap between left and right is pretty much how I reacted when I first heard it
The song they sample in part 2 is a song from the 50s called “when you get what you want you don’t want it” and the way it relates to the boss fight (specifically phase 2) is very interesting, but I’m not the most qualified to describe it (and I’m on mobile, so typing is a tad difficult) I recommend the comments on the video of the song, they explain it very well! Long story short however, the phase 2 boss is this cartoony character called pizza head who’s attacks involve frivolous discarding of items, and most of the levels could be interpreted (at least in the higher floors) as businesses he started, then abandoned
Did y'all know the sample voices as The Melodies in the second phase were actually from a Pizza commercial
dude i was just thinking about this song!!! are you a psychic or something???
I will neither confirm or deny...
Unexpectancy Part III makes me hyped for no reason. It is the ultimate peptalk.
Now I'll be able to say something else other than "Good", "Amazing", "Beautiful" and etc. lol
Phase 1: The final boss's theme
Phase 2: The true final boss's theme
Phase 3: The main characters theme.
And finally part 3 subverts the player's expectations one final time by backing up Peppino instead, essentially turning into your boss theme because by this point, Peppino is pissed and the player already knows how to beat these bosses (easily) and they're probably going "I don't care, I'll just do it again." And it transitions from a sort of "get out of my way!" Feeling to "it's just you and me... but not for long."
All around one of the most thoughtfully composed tracks I've ever heard.
Unexpectancy 3 refrences also some of the osts in the game
