With brick/concrete, it's pretty much a case of either using cable trunking/conduits, if you don't mind seeing a PVC strip. Or hacking off the wall plaster in a channel, vertically between both sockets, running down the cables, covering them over with cable channelling and then re-plastering over the channelling. Which of course, is a lot more expensive, messy and time consuming.

Usually we laugh a bit about your "cardboard" buildings but they do obviously also have their advantages. Doing something like this in a concrete or brick wall would mean you'd have to completely renovate the whole room, mill slots in the wall and all that sort of stuff. A job of mulitple days and really expensive. This way here makes such things much easier and also simpler to undo. Keep it up! 🤠

I'm always wondering how you deal with noise and heating in US houses, most don't even have insulation in inner walls so thermal bleed between rooms is a thing and there's no noise insulation what so ever. And there's also the thing Jay is showing here. You're utterly limited by where the actual wood frame is and wood is limited in itself in terms of carrying weight. With a stone wall, you put up whatever wherever you want and you can put some really heavy shit wherever you want too.

The wire in the wall isn’t an extension cord but actual Romex wiring. This “powerbridge” is up to code. Hopefully nobody heard Jay say “extension cord” and think that’s okay, because that would be against the NEC (National Electric Code)
Yes, very true, though I did see an 'in-wall' rated extension cord at Home Depot last year. I haven't seen or looked for one recently, so maybe it got pulled. I just explain to my clients that their home owners insurance fire inspector can usually spot a wrong electrical wire a mile away, and that usually nixes their plans of saving a little money. If not, I cut 'em loose, and let someone else do that job.

I'm now working more hours then ever to keep my building clean, and disinfected for my senior consumers aka clients. At least it's good for my wallet every pay period. So yeah Jay would be wise to consider a Staycation at home.
I am virtually living vicariously through you. I only have a small space to set up my system (in the living room of all places). A few years ago I bought an L shaped desk with a little hutch shelving thing. I have deeply regretted it since then. I am practically boxed in and feel claustrophobic at times. I am seriously contemplating just buying a cheap 6ft table (w/folding legs) and tossing out this desk. I'll miss the shelving, but it would open up so much space. On top of all of that, my desk blocks half of the only window on this wall, which means a good chunk of airflow and light is blocked off.
For anyone without a close ikea. I'm doing something similar but bought a Butcher block from Lowes. Real wood countertop instead of a vanier one from ikea. And it was even cheaper than a same size karlby. And building my own cabinets from mdf for about $20 per cabinet VS $80 per Alex drawer. (free since I already have the mdf) I also added a surge protected wall outlet in the wall behind the TV. Set up looks good though, Jay.

I'm in my 20s and I agree that most younger people desire white this and RGB that. I've thought for a long time now that when I move into my new house later this year that I'm going to make a wood setup. A mixture of walnut, cherry and flame maple. My "code" when it comes to parts is that if it's super flashy and over styled, it's probably pretty cheap.
DIY is the best way. I built my own desk from Plywood and stained it dark sort of mahogany colour with edging, mounted it to the wall, no legs. Was a pain but looks really nice and I used the scrap for a couple shelves around the room that match. As cheap as an ikea desk but WAY more sturdy and looks much better. Just took some time and effort. Being I have no spare room for my PC. It went in my living room. Cable management has to be a bit more creative when you can't mount a basket thing underneath so I used a staple gun to staple velcro ties to the bottom of the desk and cut some slits for trunking up the back for cables.
Am 22 and i have purple walls and red doors. Plus I have Star Wars, TWD, R6S, X-Files, Terminator and Darth Vader posters in various colors. So idk about that white... 😅

So one thing my dad taught me about mounting things to the wall. Put a layer of felt between the object and the wall. Really saves you when you go to take it off. It doesn't stick to the wall and peel off paint/dry wall. Help keep my mom happy and we didn't have to patch and paint the damage.

Young people not wanting wood grain spoke to me (I'm 39). I finally broke down and decided to make my own desk with a butcher block top, stained it with danish oil. Easy on the lights (not an RGB kind of guy), and about 6 feet long to give lots of desk top space even with all of my stuff on it.

Sheetrock is actually widely used in Europe, and it was used even like 20 years ago. Older houses were fully made of bricks but now mostly the exterior walls are and insides are made of that. In case of flats thats a different story as most walls are brick. But some do some re-arrangements and use sheetrock as well. And its quite a nice material to work with ;) Dough in Europe we mostly have aluminium construction behind it not wooden like you have.

Like you already mentioned in the video: in Europe, lots of houses have stone or concrete floors and walls, even the inner walls sometimes. I'd really like to run network cables throughout the house, but the conduit which has been put in place during construction is not designed for that, as the building is from before home networks became a thing. Adding new conduit and cables is quite challenging because of that. Having to deal with concrete is a pain in the cunning linguals if you cannot use the already in place conduit. Drilling small holes is doable with a hammer drill, but putting cables into a wall means you need to carve slots in the concrete or stone. You need specialised tools for that and it creates a lot of mess. Concrete definitely has its upsides but not for these types of DIY projects. XD

I love the color of the wall. Although I wouldn't go with latex paint. Even though it's advertised as washable it's so much more expensive and not really 100% washable. If you don't clean it right away or certain stains just won't go off.

Sheetrock is actually widely used in Europe, and it was used even like 20 years ago. Older houses were fully made of bricks but now mostly the exterior walls are and insides are made of that. In case of flats thats a different story as most walls are brick. But some do some re-arrangements and use sheetrock as well. And its quite a nice material to work with ;) Dough in Europe we mostly have aluminium construction behind it not wooden like you have.

Like you already mentioned in the video: in Europe, lots of houses have stone or concrete floors and walls, even the inner walls sometimes.
I'd really like to run network cables throughout the house, but the conduit which has been put in place during construction is not designed for that, as the building is from before home networks became a thing. Adding new conduit and cables is quite challenging because of that.
Having to deal with concrete is a pain in the cunning linguals if you cannot use the already in place conduit. Drilling small holes is doable with a hammer drill, but putting cables into a wall means you need to carve slots in the concrete or stone. You need specialised tools for that and it creates a lot of mess. Concrete definitely has its upsides but not for these types of DIY projects. XD

I love the color of the wall. Although I wouldn't go with latex paint. Even though it's advertised as washable it's so much more expensive and not really 100% washable. If you don't clean it right away or certain stains just won't go off.
