I really appreciate you taking the time to download the Tony Awards. The Jessica Tandy speech was very emotional. I truly appreciate that I was able to see this incredible actress in her final years. Thank you.
Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn moved me to tears!
Ms. Tandy passed away exactly (minus one day) three months after this ceremony..
MissPoochSmooch- thank you so much for uploading this (and all the other videos!!), I know it must take forever to upload, and I appreciate it so so much! xx
2017, I'm 14 and just now seeing this. Truly inspiring, my favorite moments were Beauty and the Beast and Martin Short. All that talent and sass in one room.
Sarah Hinkson now you're 15?
Sarah Hinkson now you’re 16? Lol
Victor Garber at the beginning 💕 but cutted out his best parts....
that's why there's a link in the description that shows the full opening
@@iHeartsNostalgiaPit Thank you.
George Abbott was 13 days shy of 107 here. An amazingly long life.
It's sort of sad how he's pretty much just dragged out like a relic, barely able to say anything himself. There are downsides to living for such a long time.
It's so weird to see the theatre without the Wicked set in it!
This is literally long before WICKED
Yes I'm well aware of that, lol. That's why I made the comment in the first place.
Hehehe true
@@broadwaymike92 like a full decade
Wow I haven't looked for you channel in week. So happy to see more shows!!!
Jessica Tandy, ravaged by ovarian cancer, is just luminous. How beautiful to see her one last time on a stage.
OMG THANK YOU for uploading this!!!!!!!!!!
I’d just like to point out the fact that Susan Egan is a true badass for performing in a cast on they Tony’s! (Yes she had broken her arm if you look closely under the shawl in the end song) That is all.
Thank you Thank you Thank you
6:54 wait! What?! Is that Victor Garber?! Please someone tell me that is. I am a huge fan of his. HUGE!
Eristine Forever Yes, that is Victor Garber. He is soooo yummy.
OkieGal2 thank you so much for confirming it. He is awesome.
There is a better version to find here on RUclips, searching for "Victor Garber Tonys 94". There is his full peformance to see...
@@muffinjunior1280 seriously?! 😳
@@eristineforever6934 You found it? 😊
21:41 Great Scotland Yard. It's Disney's Beauty And The Beast The Broadway Musical. Thanks Mate. X
Passion an amazing operetta!
The highlight for me was Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.
I've always loved Amy Irving since seeing her in Carrie. Beautiful and charming woman.
God, I miss Madeline Kahn...she was the cherry on the sundae.
oh so that's why it's called Damn Yankees, it's about the team (I don't know what the cast took before doing that bit but I want some (if they didn't take it from George Abbott's medicine cabinet) and apparently this was the first year that the Musical and Play revivals got love and yet somehow it made the Tony Awards even better (albeit longer)
Man they wanted to get the Revivals out of the way fast, the tony's were a different time in the 90s
I find it quite ironic that they had Sir Anthony Hopkins co-hosting this on the same night Beauty and the Beast were up for Tony's.....considering that Silence of the Lambs were up for Oscars the same year as Beauty and the Beast
Man I would love for Beauty and the Beast to return to Broadway someday, but I realized that, it would have to be up to Disney, since as long as The Lion King and Aladdin are running they wouldn't have to do, it's too bad they didn't insert If I Can't Love her into the live action remake, but I won't lie, the song they ended up using had me lose it anyway. Ladies and Gentleman, Susan Egan's Hercules audition (I'm kidding, but she did go on to voice Megera in the film iirc)
32:00 5 years later they would both win lead acting Tony's in a musical I didn't know Martin Short did Godspell
I could bring up the irony in regards to Passion but I won't
48:41 because he had been in a Skiing accident sometime before that
man I love how they are showing off all the other theaters outside of New York
kind of depressing knows that both couples involved with the lifetime achievement award this year are both gone, especially since Tandy was gone not long after this
whoa was Jack Klugman sick here? (I later found out that he had recently had throat surgery)
1:03:11 whoops accidentally started the Beauty and the Beast Score
1:04:17 I can hear you tech people!
1:07:55 HISS!
1:09:15 may she RIP whoa I didn't know Joan Rivers was nominated for a Tony
watching this Tony Awards show felt like falling backwards into an heated pool (and I mean this in the best possible way)
I didn't notice this in my first viewing, but it feels like all the performances for Best Musical were pre-recorded ( because there's no way they can pull off a quick change like that)
I, too, wonder what happened to 1993 Tony broadcast.
Susan and Terrence are sensational! They should have won!
Yes
Exactly. Passion is boring. Beauty and the Beast is a better musical. Those Tony voters are nothing but a bunch anti-Disney jerks. Except they did give The Lion King a Tony Award for Best Musical four years later.
Yes, the Tony and Broadway Community were so mad at Disney, Because they didnt put their production together the old fashion way, of hunting money and backer auditions, they had the funds to.produce their own show, with their people and Broadway people....it should have won, Passion is beautiful, but its really an Off -Broadway show, i bet it would have done better.
@@TDW8964 oh is that why they only won a single tony? I can't believe they picked Mother Gothel over Belle/Megera
Yes the voters were anti-disney because they didn’t do it the proper way. But lets look at the differences between Beauty and the beast and the winner Passions: Passion won the tony for best musical, lasted only less than a year on broadway and is not memorable while Beauty and the Beast only won one award but lasted on Broadway for 13 years, translated into numerous languages and is a groundbreaking monumental musical recognized by millions. So in the end beauty and the beast is the true winner of that year‘s awards.
1:04:30 Glenn Close's amazing entrance!!!
The fact that PASSION actually won Best Musical really surprises me. Not that it wasn't deserving, it absolutely was: it may, in fact, be my favorite Sondheim musical. But PASSION was very controversial - as most important art tends to be - and even though BEAUTY AND THE BEAST apparently didn't get great reviews (I think it was sort-of derisively compared to a theme park show) I didn't think the dislike people had for it, and for Disney, was so strong that they were willing to give the award for a show like PASSION.
I don't know wouldn't Broadway have a bigger budget than a theme park show?
@@iHeartsNostalgiaPit As in, the kind of thing you'd expect from a company like Disney: for example, the New York Times called it essentially an enormously expensive "tourist attraction" where "nothing has been left to the imagination" and "what you see is precisely what you get." The review ends with this: "Nobody should be surprised that [the show] brings to mind a theme-park entertainment raised to the power of 10. Although not machine-made, it is clearly the product of a company that prizes its winning formulas. Inspiration has less to do with it than tireless industry", and that "the result is a sightseer's delight, which isn't the same thing as a theatergoer's dream". Variety's review also said that "the irony, of course, is that for years, people have complained that the imported musicals have turned Broadway into a theme park. Now Disney’s come along and proven the point", and the New York Daily News (with the subhead "Broadway version of Disney cartoon is transplanted with a mechanical heart") said that "one would wish Disney's first Broadway foray would have regarded the theater as a spur to the imagination rather than a pretext for mindless spectacle".
It's a shame The Red Shoes didn't get a Best Choreography nod. I guess the new shows didn't have much dancing, since the nominees were all revivals.
Damn, every time Carousel won, it was like the energy in the theatre went down. It all starts when they announce the nominees for revival (notice how even Grease got louder applause from the audience) and just kind of continues down from there. Surprising, considering how acclaimed Carousel was and ended up winning the most awards that night. Perhaps Broadway was starting to get tired of the British takeover.
The 1 Play I wrote Never Made it Past the Class Room. I'd like a Second Chance.
Here you go.💬
The Author of CATS was unavailable, do to the Fact that T.S. Eliot Died January 4, 1965, and Never saw it become a hit Play on May 11, 1981, and last so long.
uh wrong video (this is the 1994 show not the 1983 show)
@@iHeartsNostalgiaPit The Year Doesn't Matter the 1987 in Red Lodge Montana. Mine, was the first to swap Genders with the Jellicles while adding a few New Jellicles to the Tribe, We had the First Female Miss Toffelees and the first Female Macavity AKA Queen Kong.
Can someone re-upload the 1993 edition of the Tony's?
surely you've noticed by now that the copyright claim that prevented it from being viewable has since expired ruclips.net/video/H0Euq4mATWk/видео.html
idk if people still see these comments but what song plays whenever passion wins an award? like what song from passion is being used as the instrumental
Let me look, see if I can figure it.
Ok, got to the first award and the music is from the opening song, "Happiness ".
1993??
PASION (even though it's a great show) stole the Tony from BEAUTY & THE BEAST. That show is spectacular and it was my first Broadway show.
I know, right? The Tony voters are not being fair. Cats received bad reviews, but despite of that, they got a Tony for Best Musical.
Passion
I'm looking for beauty and the beast Tony win for only won win out of 9 nomanations
Sorry that Gary Beach didnt win.

I’m sorry, but Beauty and the Beast should’ve won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Passion is a snore fest. Sorry, but it’s my opinion.
