This is the single biggest loss in the Tories’ history. They’ve decimated their own country’s standing in the world, put themselves in incredibly weak standing in economic negotiations, and basically destroyed themselves from within as a party. This case is a bit more severe than an incumbent party losing as a trend. This was politically self-annihilating for the Tory party.

Socialism is seen more of a method to be applied in certain situations in the U.K. and Europe. The knowledge (from experience) that there are certain functions that the state can do better individual companies. Eg the NHS has 70 million customers / users and has immense negotiation power with drug companies etc that’s why our drug costs are so low in the U.K. compared to US, and no profits are taken out. Also the gvt can coordinate and integrate the operation of private companies into a more coherent market as in our public transport. But all governments need a thriving economy to pay for public service so the private sector is nurtured and supported.
