  • In this Week’s End video - 6 Shapely Hoyas - we’re taking a look at six Hoyas with unexpected leaf shapes. The plants we’re checking out this week are Hoya endauensis, Hoya manipurensis, Hoya kanyakumariana, Hoya sp GPS 7240, Hoya sp VL-9, and Hoya thomsonii. Since it can take a bit of time for some Hoyas to settle in and produce their first blooms, it’s nice to have interesting leaves to look at while you wait.

      @PlantedInRI I came close to buying the thomsonii a few times, but after seeing the bloom, I am on a mission to get one now.

    Lol, I didn't read the whole title. I just saw endauensis and I was on! After you presented the manipurensis, I thought it would be nice if the next was the GPS 7240! Boom, there it was! I love the purplish color when sun stressed, looks like grapes. Big coffee beans? 😅! My fave out of the group is endauensis, so cute those ruffled edges, fast grower. My first was beautiful with some light red hues and dummy me decided to trellis it and it died a painful death! So my current one will just hang. Thanks for sharing as always 👍🏽Dee, NY

    Beautiful Hoyas! What brand of sulfur are you using?

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you. I've been using the "Sulfur Plant Fungicide" by Bonide. I'd seen other Hoyaheads use it, and it has worked for me. I suggest a mask and maybe gloves when mixing and using it. Thanks for watching and your question.

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for asking. I moved the Thomsonii up, a bit closer to the overhead grow light. It's not directly under the light, but just a bit to the side. Thanks for watching and your question.

    Wow, can you tell me have you had mealy bugs and have you found a way to get rid of them. I have used Neam oil I steal keep fighting with them.

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  Месяц назад

      I have had mealy bugs, and first thing is isolate the plant. I go after them with a cheap watercolor paint brush and rubbing alcohol. The bristles get into places a cotton swab can't. If the infestation is too out of control, I'll spray the plant with rubbing alcohol. If all of that doesn't work, well, I might promote the plant to compost. Thanks for watching and asking.

    Do you put all your hoyas in pon? 🍸🇳🇿

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  Месяц назад

      Thanks for asking. Most, but not all of them, I've got some in an organic mix. The pon-ish just seems to work for me. But I think the "secret" isn't the pon as much as the self-watering, wick-based pots. Thanks for watching and your question.

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  Месяц назад

      A very airy mix. I water-through on the weekend and do a slight touch up mid-week. Really good light, and if you find a place it likes, don't move it.
