    Keaton a wimp? His Batman killed the villains. And he didn't say lines like "I'll get drive thru" and "Chicks dig the car."

    • @isostormgamer5584

      You got to remember that during this time period, majority were put off by how dark Batman Returns is... which is why WB changed the tone which lead to us to getting Batman Forever and the disastrous Batman and Robin. It wasn't until people looked back in retrospect that Batman Returns got the respect it deserves.

    • @DarkHeroesForever
      @DarkHeroesForever 9 месяцев назад +1

      Maybe it's just me, but I can't help but feel that you acknowledging the fact that Keaton's Batman does kill as an excuse to prove that he's not a wimp does comes off as you complimenting him killing his enemies.

    • @Illustraful
      @Illustraful 9 месяцев назад

      @@DarkHeroesForever Yes I do. I like my vigilantes to be hardcore, not have some wimpy code about not killing villains.

    • @DarkHeroesForever
      @DarkHeroesForever 9 месяцев назад

      @@Illustraful Then read or watch Deadpool or The Punisher, which don't get me wrong, I do like those characters (Punisher especially), but their motives for doing what they do are totally different by comparison. Batman's whole moral is that if he kills then he proves that he is no better than his adversaries. Why do you think the Joker is often regarded as the greatest among those adversaries? The reason is that the Joker would go to great lengths to break his moral code, which is played greatly in stuff like the Arkham games or in The Dark Knight. It's things like this that make Batman such a compelling character because he'll go to great lengths to do what he can to stop the worst of crimes without becoming it, so when I read comments like this, it just comes off as idiotic and brainless, as it reads as someone who doesn't get or care to understand the full aspects of the character (which to me makes you not a real fan), and/or someone who thinks every single superhero/vigilante should kill, for it makes them look cool and badass. You and Zack Snyder would get along just fine.

      They did have a foundation for making changes in 1995. That’s absolutely true. It’s just one of those things in retrospect, When you look back at the entire franchise, Batman returns was highly underappreciated and is a far better movie than Batman Forever..

      @@dbreiden83080 let's say that Batman Returns is a much better movie (at its core, a movie about outcasts unable to find happiness) but Forever is more enjoyable in terms of superheroic shenanigans/Batphilia (meaning an honest love for the gadgets and the vehicles...and nipples).

      Val Kilmer did a great job but the script is too silly and even though I am a Jim Carrey fan he basically wrecked the movie for me.. He is just hamming it up to a level 20 in every scene. You can tell Schumacher gave him little direction on the role. Carrey just went nuts..

    • @jjrj8568

      @@dbreiden83080 I don't have a problem at all with Carrey, as you've said, utterly over-the-top and cartoonish, '60s Riddler updated for '90s cheese. I don't have a problem with Two-Face either: too loud/cartoonish for some, but he truly looked deranged and very murderous. This movie is darker than most people remember it.

      We did a similar outing after work for B&R. I wore my full latex Batman suit- the "Sonar" suit from 'Forever' and was announced by the sparsly attended theater manager as " Batman as I entered and sat square in the middle seat. The lights went down, and I spent the next 2 hrs slouching further and further into my seat out of shame for that movie. I have since grown to like it, but if I could have I would have dropped a smoke pellet and escaped.

    My reaction in 1995 was ' Jim Carey was okay but kinda puney looking. Soundtrack was great. Loved the new look Gotham and all the colors. Nicole Kidman overplayed her part and I didn't find her sexy at all. Val was a great new Batman, was a closer age to the character than Keaton, but lacked the authenticity that Keaton brought to the role. Tommy Lee Jones was overacting and was a poor man's Jack Nicholson'. Those are my memories at the time. BTW, loved the Mcdonalds collector glasses.

      I have never heard that, but thanks for the compliment. I felt at the time that anyone could be in the suit, and that Val was a better Bruce Wayne. At the time I had Adam, Micheal, and Val to pool my opion. I was not as well versed in the 2 serials at the time. Adam was, and still is my fav bot bruce and bat for many reasons. So, between just Val and Michael, I prefer Val. I prefer his screen presence, confidence, and IMO the better costume. That does not mean Keaton is Bad, just that I like Val better. I was, and still am, a pretty big big Batman fan. This was a little before the turn of the century and we didn't have as much Bat content as we do now. So, at the time when I came out of the movie, I was really excited that they portrayed Bruce's inner turmoil. I thought the script was, for the most part, really well written. How it was executed is up for debate, but I over all enjoyed it. Kilmer has similar thought's to mine about the suit in his new Doc, if you haven't seen it. Any way, a long way to say I stand by what I said then.
