Thank you so much for putting up this video. I had to change my alternator on my 2002 Tahoe and was trying to decide if I should try this myself or let a mechanic do it for 150 dollars. Mind you, I've never changed an alternator in my life and it was 12 degrees and windy outside so I had to be absolutely sure I could pull this off. After watching your video I was completely confident. Everything went perfectly and took me about 45 minutes. Probably would have been quicker but I kept running back in my house to get warm. Thanks again!

I am a 39 yr old mom of 3 boys & thanks to you I changed my own alternator on my 2003 Chevy Tahoetwo weeks ago!! You guys made it so easy! I am not one to read directions & be able to fix something. But since I had such a good visual it was EASY! Now I need to figure out what is wrong w/ my husband truck! It starts but then dies. It is not the alternator or the battery. Wish I knew the problem so I could watch another one of your videos to fix it!!

Where do I send the case of beer? This took all of 35 minutes in the parking lot of a strip mall. The only step I had to change was removing that pesky clip after removing the alternator from the mount. Viewer for life, well done.

Great video. I have two things to mention. 1. At approximately 5:34 in, you will notice that a single bolt is inserted as a starting point. This is a huge help. I battled mine for almost 3 hours by not noticing that tid bit. 2. For a diesel disconnect BOTH negative battery cables.

I've watched several of your videos. Today I found my alternator had died. Thanks to your video, I was able to replace the alternator with little effort. I did get my 15mm socket wrench wedged by the fan shroud. However, I was able to complete the rest of the swap and when I put the belt back on, I got the wrench out easily. Thank you so much for your videos!

@Sucio16 If your using the heat, or the AC and it dips. This does tend to happen on many vehicles because there is a great amount of draw on the system. If your just at an idle with nothing on such as the headlights, heat or AC and it tends to fluctuate then there may be an issue with the alternator.

There could be an issue with the battery terminals. Over time, battery terminals can rot from the inside out and oxidize. You will want to change out the cables and see if that solves your problem.

Can you tell me about how long the whole process takes? I got in my truck this morning and it said "battery not charging". I gave it some gas to send voltage and the message went away. Took it to have the battery tested and it did the exact same thing. So the guy said that my alternator either has a short somewhere or it is going out. Should I just replace the alternator?? Hello, I have a 2001 suburban. Replaced alternator because the old one went out. The new one doesn't start charging (11.64 volts) till about ten to twenty seconds after starting the motor. then it charges at (14.87 volts) why the delay to start charging. also this only happens when it sits for several hours. Otherwise it starts charging right from the start of the motor? any comments or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

I added a high end aftermarket stereo/dvd to my 2004 Silverado 1500. Is it okay if I install the higher amp alternator? My 103 amp's regulator just failed.

+Audrey Truss You may want to make sure that the wires can handle the extra amperage. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com

I have an 03 Silverado, and my alternator is making a whining noise that increases when I accelerate. Would it be a good idea to replace it? I'm going on a 1500 mile trip next month and I need some advice.

You may want to have it checked to see if it's going bad. We carry a news (not rebuilts) on our website with free shipping in the lower 48 states. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

It should be as long as it has the same motor. If you call our sales staff at 888-844-3393 they can tell you what the correct alternator for your application would be. We carry brand new alternators with no core charge for all kinds of vehicles. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

It should be a similar process. You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

You may want to take a look at the starter if both the battery and the alternator are known to be good. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

What happens if you use a 130 amp alternator when it calls for a 105?

+Los Ojos De HotSpanish You should replace it with the recommended amperage. The vehicle's wiring may not handle the extra amps and could cause a fire.

Great video. Appreciate the list of tools needed in the beginning, and the glovebox code confirmation of what amperage alternator to get is super helpful! Extra notes: (1) There's a clip on the backside of the electrical plug connector that must be lifted before the plug can be removed. Take care not to break it by pulling without seeing/lifting it back a bit. (2) On my 2001 there were two brass(?) grommets on the forward bolt holes of the engine block (where you first slide the bolts thru). Mine were beat up but functional. See this video: ruclips.net/video/XbbVYJlxdAo/видео.html. Suggest getting a couple from the dealer if possible before doing the job. (3) The pivoting ratchet handle he uses is very helpful! I went to Harbor Freight and got one for $29 and it made the job much easier, esp working the tensioner pulley. (2001 GMC 2500HD 4wd w/ plow package, 6.0L 108k mi )
