1974 he made the audience gasp when he came out. Frank Zane saw it and said the audience just acted as if they just were taken back.
arnie def was at his peak in 74. wow.. huge.
74 what was he 240 to250 his body weight
@@miker5233 248 lbs to be precise
237 according to Schwarz, which has been my supposition since that show, and 225 in 75; by ‘74 he was on the best bleading edge drug cocktail including rare hard to get European primobolin.
74 he was close to 250lbs at 26yo. He trimmed down for a movie then came back lighter in 75...imagine if he kept training n competing into his thirties without those years off with movies. He would have been huge!
Yeah, Arnold said he was 235 lbs in 1975.
Yep they made him trim down to 210 lbs for the movie Stay Hungry before he came back and competed in the 75' Olympia which is why he wasn't quite as big as he was the previous year in 74!
@@Charliemmafan no...they didn't make him lose weight because he was playing a big bodybuilder...in Arnold's day they didn't stay on steroids year round so he was not on gear during filming of stay hungry
@@richardlawson6787 dude you're wrong and you don't know anything about Arnold or his career because he filmed stay hungry before the 1975 Mr Olympia even though the movie didn't come out until 1976 and the dumb director told him that he was too big and didn't want him to basically dwarf the lead character Jeff Bridges because they filmed the movie in 1975 before the Mr Olympia and Arnold has said this repeatedly himself dude so learn something before you talk and act like you know what you're talking about because you don't know a damn thing about him or his career because they literally made him drop down to 210 pounds even though he played a bodybuilder in the movie, they still made him go down to 210 lbs which was really dumb and stupid because he was playing a bodybuilder but the director just didn't know what the hell he was doing and after the filming then he had to gain weight and get bigger for the 1975 Mr Olympia but he was never as big as he was like in 1974 because of the filming of stay hungry which set back his career because he had to shrink for that role due to the orders of the director and that's just the truth so do your damn homework and learn something before you try to argue with people because the movie didn't come out until a year later just like all movies they never come out the year they're actually filmed because they take like 1 year if not 2 years or more to actually come out man so learn something please for your own good!
See the last shot....
That side chest of Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1974 damn. Best side chest of all time, and his legs in 1974 were big much bigger than his legs in 75. Very impressive Arnold
8:43 It is hard to believe someone looked like this 46 years ago ! Arnolds chest, delt's and bi's were just stupid massive
Well this was a nice celebration and reminder of how great Arnold's physique was
Massive 1974 Arnold was mass with class.
most people don't know he filmed staying hungry and had to lose 30 pounds to film with sally fields, he was going to take the 75 olympia off, but he heard of the pumping iron movie, butler said he wanted to feature him, so arnold said he would do it, but was worried as hell he was not going to be able to get back his size and condition because he knew lou ferigno was after him, then a late entry serge nubret, arnold was so scared of losing, he really concentarted on condition, and he pulled it off althought being 14 pounds smaller than 74, wich is alot of lost muscle....if you see in the start of pumping iron arnold comes into golds and says hi to big tony and t ken waller behind the desk, he asks if this is where he can sign up to get muscles, you can see how small and out of condition arnold is, the movie had just wrapped and he was really building from scratch........but like a legend he did it.....
You're smart and everything you said was accurate!
I followed these shows then, unlike most. Lots of speculation on weight; he himself said he was 237 in ‘74, 225 in ‘75. He lost weight both for the movie stay hungry and also because he was told by producers he would be more appealing on screen at a lower, more athletic weight. Furthermore, it was Butler and Gaines who were the brains behind much of the pumping iron idea and planning unknown to most, not him. regaining weight for him wasn’t an issue because there’s something called muscle memory; especially muscle memory coupled with the best drugs anyone could get including hard to get rare Euro Primobolin.
@@hardcorehouseHe was very close to 250 (247 lbs) in '74.
All you can say is wow love his posing too
After all these years I still believe that 1974 was Arnold's best year as a bodybuilder.
That shot at 1:45 of Arnold on the left..from 1974...one of the most amazing physiques I have ever seen...Arnold STILL puts everyone today to shame!
The pic on the right is my all time favourite!! He's so sharp in 1975!!
I love the commentary on this! Literally exactly what I think amd want to hear
I saw the 73 and 74 Arnold at the Olympia. 73 was held in Brooklyn and 74 was at MSG. I was and still am a Sergio fan but those two versions of Arnold would have been Mr. Olympia until the Yates era and even then I liked Arnold's physique better.
The top IFBB official and judge Jerry Branium who saw Arnold at his prime at 250 lbs and Haney at his prime said, Arnold in 1974 shape would have beaten Haney at his best.
2ZZGE100 haney was ugly, ripped but out of proportion, big frame and small arms
Very true.
@@leart78 Yeah but Arnold even at his best would get dominated once Lee turned around.
Guys like Sergio and Haney have a natural genetic advantage that is very hard to beat, a tiny waist. When guys with this advantage have the size & definition, it adds to V & leg sweep appearance in a way that guys without it can't match...aka Symmetry. The 74 Arnold with bigger legs creates this appearance even though his waist was not the 27in Sergio had. You can see it in a pic of Sergio & Arnold next to each other (front double bi pic).
That photo of Front Double Biceps is from 1973 the haircut is exactly the same like other 1973 photos, and for me it isn't the same like other 1974 pictures.
I love your opening “it’s comparisons like this that makes life worth living”. It’s funny because it’s true. It feels so good to be enthusiastic about something your whole being just gets excited.
Big +Symmetry = Arnold The only guy who can get himself big and most detailed without making him look like ninja turtles
I wished Arnold kept training into his 30s he could have reached a new peak
The picture of Arnold at the 1:55 mark is in fact a 1973 shot. In my opinion his two best years were 73 and 74 with 73 being his best conditioned and 74 his most massive.
Thats right actually good spot i thought something didnt seem right
He Was Shredded In 1971 To
The word opinion sums up competitive body building....
@@richardlawson6787 It can be objective and subjective at the same time but yeah, mostly ones opinion.
@@goldenera4ever who's to say who is built better?.I'd take Steve reeves body over any of them and he's considered small....but he is better built than those druggies competing today
Arnold motivated millions of people to make sport. Arnold is bodybuilding!
The GOAT and Champion of All Time!!! 1974 Arnold is that version.
Ronnie's #1 Arnold #2
@@iambodybuildingyt221 just no.
@@henrycooper4213 yes
@@henrycooper4213 just yes you can't say its not true
overrated weider's poster boy.
People who say Arnold was bigger in 1974 and more conditioned in 1975 are wrong. There are pictures of him outdoors just a week before the contest and he looked shredded to the bones (palm springs outdoor pictures). The lighting in 1974 distorts pictures, but he was superior in every measurable way in 1974 simply because he trained 6 months for the 1974 packing 8 - 10 lbs of more lean muscle mass going up to 260+ lbs (look at the Southern Hemisphere guest posing to see him at 260+ lbs) and then shredded and diced down to 248 lbs for the contest. In 1975, he simply did not have as much lean muscle to work with due to only 3 months of training and he went up to only 240 lbs. Then, he shredded down to 232 lbs so he was starting with a lot less. His muscularity was way higher in 1974.
I followed these contests when they happened; he said himself his weight in 74 was 237, and 225 and 75. The biggest problem with those pictures is that for some crazy reason there weren’t professional pictures taken that we know of at least they haven’t yet been released, that would allow us to see what he really looked like without that horrible lighting. It’s clear that in 74 he had upped his drug cocktail, including rare, hard to get European primobolin.
@@hardcorehouse Arnold himself said jhe was 248 lbs and 232 lbs in 1975. You can watch the video on Jay Cutler's channel where all of the Olympias are on stage being interviewed together. I believe he was close to 250 lbs because of how huge he looked. No way was he only 237 lbs. 237 lbs is what was around in 1973. Jerry Branium who was a judge and saw many Arnold's contest said Arnold was much bigger than Haney in 1974. He might have been a dehydrated at 237 lbs before pre-judging. I read in a book that Barbara Outland Baker brought a carrot cake for Arnold to help him carb up and he put on a few pounds for the night show. He looks huge. There is no way he weighs only 237 lbs in 1974. I am not talking about pictures. I have seen a black and white video of Arnold and he looked even more crazy in the video than in the picture.
1974 was better than 1975. He looked good in 75 but he lost too much muscle from cutting weight for the movie and was unable to get back to his 74 mass. He looked awesome in 73 as well. We can all agree that his 1980 version was his worst.
Yes you're right!
Marx I gotta say that front double bi at 1:40 has always been my single favorite Arnold pic ever. So if it really is 1973 then that changes everything.
I guess that would probably be from 73 because he's sliced to the bone.. conditioning is on point
That pose has yet to be matched even to this day!
Arnold was just the absolute total package. Godlike body, handsome face, super charismatic, and an unparalleled drive and work ethic.
Jeff Goldblum talking about Arnold Schwarzeneggers chest
Arnold is the best !!!!!
74 his legs was matching to his upper body 75 he was not train them hard due to acting hi he train to compete he would beet any one in the 80s even lee heny
@King Of The World 73 and 74 Arnold could give Haney a good run but that's it.
4:45 "elemental creature" lmao!! love it
I would be interested in the turtle bodybuilding of today if you were commentating dude. Epic stuff.
In my opinion he was at his peak in 74 he was worried about standing next to ferrigno and looking small. So he grew..
Not only that, he had improved his drug cocktail to include European primobolin, and then 73/74 hewas worried about Oliva showing up.
73 74 75..Arnold best....👍
Calves on Side Chest at 3:33...on left from '74 - Amazing!
Arnold is without question the Greatest of all time, 7 Mr o titles ,which would have been 11 if he didn't retire 76/79 , and he could have won 81and 82 also.
I followed those shows at that time; I’ve always thought he was 237 in 74, which is what he said recently, and 225 in 75 due to last minute filming. His development improved in 74, most likely due to a bleeding edge drug cocktail that including rare European primobolin-that’s the only time he had the more inflated, more vascular look now in vogue. He was also motivated in 73 and 74 to be at his best given his worries about Oliva showing up which is why he was in the audience with Weider and Colombo at the Mr. international show watching Oliva onstage, prior to the Olympia. Unfortunately,Weider prevented him from entering the Olympia more than once and realistically the only way Oliva would’ve had a chance in those shows would have been if hed continued to work out with Arthur Jones in Florida, which he later said was a mistake on his part
No question, the 1974 Arnold was MUCH better than the 1975. EVERYTHING. IT showed he could have BIG THIGHS that were detailed. His calves & back were INSANE. You see that his arms were huge in the side chest in 1974., relative to 1975. An all round BRUTE
This 1974 Arnold needed to go head to head against SERGIO OLIVA. It would've killed the MYTH label of OLIVA, & taken by Arnold.
He had a great build,ol classic.
7:20 you can see Striations in his Back in 1974. It just poor Picture Quality.
The last photo at 9:33, is that from 1974? Just awesome!
Arnold de 1974 era un Moustro era Gigantesco , para mi supero a todos los Años de su Forma Fisica en cada Competicion, y ese Arnild si era Insuperable el Rey ❤👑
Im a bit biased because I loved him in 75's pumping iron but got dang he was insane in 74 as well! If he showed up like this in the 80 olympia, I doubt mentzer would be have cried for a lot more reasons lol 😅
People keep talking about Ronnie Coleman being better than Arnold. If Arnold could step out of a time machine from 1974 I think he would beat Ronnie Coleman because Arnold is much taller and came in at 247 lb in 1974 and his Aesthetics, posing and sheer monstrosity of size as well as symmetry I think he would have beat anybody in history with his 74 body.
Now take Ronnie Coleman put him back in a time machine and see how he would train with the drugs that were available in 1970 through 74 and then see how he would match up to Arnold... When you think about it that way it's laughable. There's only one Arnold and if it weren't for him there would be no Ronnie Colemans running around and I wouldn't even be making this comment because it would have remained a freak Show and it would have never came into the mainstream if it weren't for Arnold but that's a whole other tangent.
here it is my 100 like
The Arnold '74 chest is still unbeaten.
Its a shame he would never return to that original 1971-74 245lb. condition which might have given Haney a fit in the 80s if he would of kept competing at that size up through the late 80s or so, which could have been possible.
He was 250+ lbs in 1971 and 1974. Two of his biggest Olympia showings and also his two best. In 1973, he was very well conditioned, but Arnold himself and people who saw him in 1973 and 1974 say, he was unreal in 1974. He was around 240 lbs in 1973.
If Arnold kept training he would've had 10 olympias
@@2ZZGE100 arnold was 245 in 74
@@menknurlan He said 248 lbs in the meet the Olympias with all of the other Olympias about a year ago.
@@menknurlan Actually he was 255-260lbs. Way bigger than 240 lol. Do your research. He was around 238- 240 in 1975
Yeah the reason is arnold would quit after 74 and make movies, and than came pumping iron and he was "only" at 235 not 250 like 74. If he had not quit training he maybe he had 260 at 75 and setting a new standard for this era.!
Many people say Arnold would look better on the drugs of today. While I partially agree. I think he think growth hormone and insulin would not while making him bigger would also increase his waist size. He never had the smallest waist to begin with so I think he would still be king without GH snd Insulin. I mean look a Lee Priest he hardly touched the stuff and he was probably the hugest bodybuilder for his height I've ever seen. It just shows if you have world class genetics you don't need it. I non GH physiques anyways. I mean look at Samir Bannout of 83. Still my favorite Mr. Olympia. Arguably the best backs of all time that year without GH.
1:34 Arnold's 1975 Front double bi is one of my favourite bodybuilding pics of all time!! Great aesthetics and condition.
0:30 - yeah, he's bigger in '74, but so much sharper in '75.
5:50 - c'mon guys, you know that with todays judging '75 gets the vote!! He's so sharp!! Look at his Xmas tree!!
In a contest the '75 version wins!! It wins the same way Frank Zane beat Arnold when they first met in competition - with CONDITION!!
You may prefer his bigger '74 version, but it's not going to beat '75 on stage!!
74 Arnold wins every pose
The double bi @1:59 looks perfect but i think thats 73, his hair looked different in 74
Also Arnold had injured his knee during the shooting of Stay Hungry so this probably had an effect on him going all out on the legs.
Definitely at his biggest in 74😎✌👍
This is when bodybuilders looked great. After Arnold Schwarzenegger then Lee Haney it went down hill. Dorian yates and Ronnie Coleman changed the game but not for the better in my opinion.
Lee Haney was the last great Olympia we had. After him Shawn Ray and Flex Wheeler should have won.
@@sonyx4500 Agree 👍🏻
1973 his hair was more streaked blonde. And he was ripped.
Imagine taking Arnold from 1974 and giving him a modern nutritionist, trainer, supplements, technology/equipment etc. It's scary to think about. Like okay yeah his legs weren't as massive as bodybuilders today but no one had seen Ronnie Coleman-calibre legs before. I doubt humans were aware legs could get that big even with the right amount of work. Arnold didn't really have luxury of looking back at bodybuilders before him and seeing what was possible.
Damn for someone who gets criticized for his legs pretty regularly, they were HUGE and RIPPED in 1974 and still pretty decent in 75,but 74 had to clearly be his LEG year!!
When his weight went up areas like thighs and triceps filled out
Yes 74 is superior, slightly more conditioned in 75. That was what he had over Big Louie in 75 conditioning
He had a of things on Lou. Not just conditioning/striations. Arnold beat Lou more worse in 1974 than he did in 1975 and Lou was better in 1974. Arnold had the best size and striation combination. He was out of proportion in a few areas in 1975.
That front relaxed goddamn 1974 👀👀 he looks fairly decently conditioned in both in 1974 this might sound silly but it looks like his muscles being bigger are pushing the skin giving a near grainy look 😮
The 1974 side chest the chest is massive but the legs arms (those arms in that side chest fuck) and even the calves 👀
Oh yeah what the fuck when he turns around 😂😂 huge calves!
100% #MarkMaxMuscle 1974 hands down.
I like 75, I would rather a Bodybuilder in peak condition, high definition with the proportion over someone w/ more mass.
His biceps
1972
arnolds best year was 1974 followed by 1973, 1972, 1971,1975, 1970, 1980.
71 is better than 72 easily.
@@xaviervega468 yes I think you're right.
Am a novice historian historian of Schwarzenegger and I’ll posit the possibility that the uncertainty around the one ‘74 photo could be as early as 1969.
74' Arnold was the BEST!
73 & 74 are best
And now Arnold is enjoying his freedom
Arnold Schwarzenegger was bigger in 1974 and in 1975 he was more Cut up in 74 he was Bulkier
74 -- more mass. 75 -- more cut. Take your pick.
74 was better. Because his legs were better. Fuller Back, fuller Chest.
I think he was best 1973
I think 73 vs 74 would be a better comparison
74 mass monster..
1973 best
THE Terminator is Arnold.......
74 always
74 traps were so much bigger in the back
So much better with the big calves and slimmer thighs. So much more masculine than todays competitors with the huge womanly thighs and skinny calves. It's the real Superman v-shape.
1974 stronger looking more drier muscle 💪 at his very best.
74' 💪🏼
arnolds the g.o.a.t
290
73, 74. The King was never better during those two years. He looked better in 72, 72 than he did in 75. Either way, Arnold did more to promote bodybuilding than any of the bloated bodies we have had since the late eighties onward
Long live the true King of Bodybuilding (not that crippled up body beneath a tin crown on a bald head)
My only regret is that Arnold never stood atop Mt. Everest where upon summiting, he quickly strips down to his trunks, rubs a little oil on, mo oil mo .. dat not good oil .. and hits his vintage double bi before putting his boots back on to descend back down the mountain.
It would be mountains standing on top of mountains.
🏋️🇺🇸💪
And that ego maniac Dorian thinks he is better than Arnold
He is overrated
1974 Arnold was his best
OMG, 1974 he looks like Roelly lol... :)
74 4 sure😊
arnold wouldn't place in today's classic physique
1974 win
Arnolds shape in 1974 destroy anyone who was on stage
1980 was his best year. Also, I want to mention Mr Back-zilla of Gary Strydom, Mr. Abs himself Boyer Coe and the man with the greatest calves ever--Roy Callendar. Oops--I almost forgot the greatest poser ever Paul Dillet (tied w/ Bertil Fox). hehehehe
Nonsense. Dennis Wolf has the greatest calves ever......
😹😹😹
74 arnold was the best. Freaky calves are so much more aesthetic than the freaky thighs trend.
I actually think the Arnold of 1973 was the best.
lou couldn't beat arnold because arnold had a movie star face lou didn't
Ant legs
74 wins every shot.
You are comparing the wrong two Mr. Olympia's. 1973 he was in his best condition and in 1974 he was his biggest.
Which was better is a matter of taste.
Obviously arnold 75 was biggest than 74 but not so definition
He was bigger in 74. In terms of definition 73 is his best year.
спины нет,ног нет,кака он выигрывал????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!
The back double bicep what's good in 75 but his legs are pathetic 74 wins overall
Arnold iS the rare bodybuilder that becomes more aesthetic the heavier he gets. Arnold 74 would have stomped Haney, Arnold from most any year would for that matter. The proportions and aesthetics were far better than Haney. The classic era was the peak of open class bodybuilding. Open class bodybuilding today is a form of mental illness fueled by vanity and insecurity, and taken to insane extremes by deadly combinations of drugs and synthol. These short huge guys without proportion or symmetry are just disgusting. Most of these guys will die in their fifties if not sooner.
The huge quads are gross and look just as bad as a fat persons. The guys from Arnold’s era are guys that you would actually like to emulate. I would love to have the physique of Arnold or Zane or Nubret. You couldn’t give me a million dollars to look like the open class guys today. It’s a shame that all these drugs are legal in this so-called sport. Ronnie Coleman is lucky to be alive. I wonder if he had it to do over again if he would.
The second they turn around Lee smokes Arnold.
In 1974 its the best Arnold of all time.I think his weight was 109 kg...…??[240 lbs].
