Thanks bud! That's awesome that you made this video for a simple request. I really appreciate it! This is a great video! In my opinion, Bill Pearl had better shoulders, back, triceps, and the shape of his legs was better. Arnold had better arms, and deeper cuts in his legs, and better V taper with the small waist. It's really a toss-up! Max Max Muscle, the man who listens to his followers!
@@marxmaxmuscle1 I like that old school stuff too. Better than current athletes. As for the comparison, I was suprised to see that bill pearl is almost as tall as arnold. Considering that, he was really massive, more than arnold on some shots, it seems.
Bill Pearl peacefully passed away at 4:00 AM this morning (September 14, 2022) while asleep in bed. He was 92 years old, and had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for several years. Parkinson's disease is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms usually emerge slowly, and as the disease worsens, non-motor symptoms become more common. The most obvious early symptoms are tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Bill was a strong man, yet this disease finally got the better of him. He was my mentor. I trained with him during the 1970s at his Pasadena Health Club, prior to, during, and after his 4th NABBA Mr. Universe title victory. I owe much of what I know about bodybuilding to my teacher, Bill Pearl. steve
In my years of weight training, I've always had pictures of Sergio Oliva, Bill Pearl, and Arnold Schwarzenegger on the wall. In their primes, one was no better than the other.
Oliva's delta and triceps were overpowering and it really made his back poses look off and exposed his back as mediocre. Pearl just destroyed him from the back. Oliva rarely ever came in diced. The one time he did, Arnold outsized him and squeaked by in 1972. Of course Oliva fangirls will claim that was rigged like all the other Oliva losses
@@sonyx4500 Bill Pearl was 41 years old when he came out of retirement and won the 1971 Mr. Universe at 242 Lbs. Bill was from an entirely different era when size like his was very rare. It's a safe bet that NO pro bodybuilders today will ever live that long.
It's those traps. He was so full and developed in the neck and shoulders, plus he had those great forearms and triceps. What other guys neglected, Bill Pearl perfected.
I mean why Arnold didn’t show in 1971 for NABBA Mr Universe was cuz Joe Weider (IFBB) made it illegal for any athlete to compete in an rival organization and automatically disqualify, Arnold only did the Olympia that year. Further note, 1971 was one of the most controversial Mr Olympia’s because Arnold was the only competitor in the 71’ Mr Olympia.
I heard about this in another video. Joe weider thought bill would beat Arnold so Joe asked him not to compete. He basically didn't want to see an Olympian losing in a lesser show.
Frank Zane who competed at the 71 Mr Universe stated Sergio was the better BB that day. in fact one of the judges, a French photographer, stated that Sergio's arms were too big which is why he put Bill Pearl ahead of him.
Bill Pearl all day. Bill is thicker and flows way better. A lot of the shots you had were not the same poses. They favored Arnold with the angels. I would like to have seen some shots with big Pearl flexing his legs. I've always thought bill looked better.
Bill didn't have any definition in his legs. And no lat development. 4:55 perfect example. Pearl was a 60's bodybuilder. Arnold was a far more advanced bodybuilder. Bill only had a better back.
There will always be differing opinions, differing preferences, and therefore disagreement regarding Pearl vs. Arnold in 71'. A unanimous choice will not be obtained. I've been actively following BB since the mid-60's and my vote goes to Arnold.
Everyone talks about Arnold's physique from 1973, 1974, & 1975 as his best, but Arnold himself stated that his best was in 1971. He came in at his biggest 251 lbs from the heavy training he did that year. I have to agree as he was very dense & thick. Deltoids were rounded capped out which made his front lat spread & V-taper look incredible. After 1971 his training routine changed to more reps & double split training as he felt more competition came from smaller bodybulders' with conditioning & refinement.

Pearl, Olivia and Arnold were all legendary greats and a case could be made for all of them. Pearl and Sergio had very similar structure and body types both were about 5 Feet 10 and weighed between 240-245. Arnold's physique was different as he was taller 6Feet 2 and about 240. He couldn't even come close to beating Arnold Schwarzenegger.
lol
Arnold would have beaten Bill Pearl in 1971. But the IFBB would not allow Arnold to go to NABBA Universe in 1971 as that would have clouded the issue of which contest was more prestigious. The Mr. Olympia needed the credibility so Arnold stayed in 1971. Not scared just politics of the time.
Is bill focusing leg work out?, his body is good but his leg..
I think he's lazy working out his leg.
What complete bullshit. Make a video on dog shit vs cow shit
You are compairing a druggie against a drug free healthy real bodybuilder Pearl one of a kind
Which one was drug free ?????🙄
Joe Weider made sure that this didn't happen
