Great tips! I live it the South so never have to store my kayak. Thanks for reminding people to NOT store their kayaks on carts and not leave them strapped.
100% sawhorses are just perfectly fine. Cover with a tarp, strap them to the horses, off you go to the races. In the elements with a tarp is more than fine
Great Video! I'm in the north east and Winter is coming. I leave it on a stand deck side up but under a UV protected boat cover. I think I might have to flip it after watching your video.
You need to do more videos of your sun dolphin I’ve been watching for video and really like them and my wife just got me a used Aruba 10 and I plan to turn it into a fishing kayak until I can afford a another one but would love videos on what you’ve done and fishing on it
Right on Cooper.. it's hard to spend time on it when the viewership market for them are so low. It takes an incredible amount of time to create these things. I will see what I can do.
Awesome explanations. You don’t recommend placing the kayak up right right? Vertically on to a wall ? Not good for the structure is it? Its a sit on polyurethane kayak
I personally don't even though you see it at the stores a lot. I like to think how they were designed... I am sure the engineers didn't give much through to the kayaks ability to withstand the weight of the kayak on end for long periods of time. You can likely get away with it for the short term.. but I would not recommend for a long term solution
@@wendellfishingid guess if someone really needed to store it upright sit it on some semi soft foam so the entirety of the hull is supported to reduce that chance, personally that's what I do with mine but I also keep it rigged but it's in a safe place free from mice or other unwanted critters
Question for you, if you don’t mind. Is it okay if I store my kayak in my garage (where the temp stays between 40 - 70 degrees) and resting on gym floor mats (the cushy kind)?
Hey Charlie... you will likely have no problem with that setup. If you are going long term.. like you are not going to touch it for 6 months.. then I would turn it over and allow it to support on the gunnels.. but with weather in that range all of the time.. it doesn't sound like you have a down season!
I am brand new to kayaking i just bought one last week. When i store it for the winter in my shed (which is not always heated) should i cover it with a blanket or tarp, or will it be fine as long as it's not outside in the elements
Question - you said not to store it on the kayak cart, would that also mean not store it on a DIY cart that has PVC tubes for the hull to sit on? Seen a lot of youtube videos of those. Or is it better to have it on top of a flat surface, like a regular ol plastic table?
Question if you will kind sir. Is it okay if I stored it on my trailer with a tarp over it and bricks holding the tarp down? It is stripped down to the plastic. And I have loosened the straps so they're not tight
There's a lot of variables in that question. How is the hull supported? The overall idea is that you don't want prolonged pressure on parts of your kayak that were not designed to support it.
Might get backlash but I keep mines on the ground deck side up for 2 and a half years and never had any problems. I leave trolling motor battery and everything in it. Jis cover it up. I honestly have nowhere else to put it so I have no choice
No backlash boss.... I'm not saying that if you store it deck side up this will 100% happen to you. But there is enough evidence out there that says it it at higher risk. Glad you haven't had any issues and hope you never do. And if you have no choice... you got what you got!

Yeah.. if you are hanging.. I would recommend using straps to support the hull in two places.
