Until our main house is built I have no choice but store my Slayer Max 10 outside. I have it tucked against the house on a sheet of plywood to (as you mentioned) keep it off direct ground. I bought a Native Watercraft custom "UV Marine Grade" cover to prevent sun damage. Although the perimeter is lined with a wide "stretch band" somehow mice are still getting inside (even when stored with the scuppers in) Ive had several nests directly on the seat but luckily, they didn't use the seat itself as nest material. I ended up putting an electronic mouse chaser and "peppermint packs" in the kayak which has so far worked flawlessly! Both our vehicles and all 3 of our ATVs have E-chasers and peppermint packs to HELP keep the mice away. Unfortunately, on occasion one will have a nest built using our vehicle hood insulation! I can't wait for our house with garage and barn to be finished!
Thank you for all your tips and suggestions because of your videos it’s making me want to get back in to kayaking I liked mine I sold it to buy a 2 person bass buggy but hear lately I’m been thinking of buying me another kayak to go out when my wife can’t go
I store my cheap kayak in the garage standing straight up with a heater on. Thank you for the mice info. But the mice have to get past my 4 cats outside before hitting the garage
Mice are a constant problem for us since moving into the country. Last month my brother visited for a week. On day 4 we took his Tundra and immediately smelled fuel. Stopped and it was pouring down the side of the undercarriage. Towed it to Toyota and a mouse/rat chewed the fuel line. I feel bad, cost him $540 and he refused to let me even pay for half. Rodents have been a nightmare, hence my Man VS Mouse video.
@@HomesteadOnThePreserve I can't imagine the frustration.....are you sure it wasn't Lizard man? Due to cooler weather, it could migrate from South Carolina
Several good points. Down here in the South, I keep it on the trailer with the straps lose and covered because I still fish several times a week. I need to be ready to go when the weather/mood is right. One benefit of the protectant is less drag and faster speeds.
I guess this applies to north American conditions. Would keeping kayaks on the floor/ground(indoors) deck side up be OK if you live in tropical climates?
What is this "storing"? When the water gets too hard to kayak, use the kayak as your ice fishing sled ;) Shawn Woods has developed the most effective mousetrap after years of testing different mousetraps. Look up his channel and he has links to the company making it for him. I plan to get one as we do get rodents in the storage unit we rent, and I have been watching . I have used the Tom Cat poison baits for years and they seem to do good enough.
My Kayak says to store it on its side which I do, up off the ground, double chained to a bracket which is bolted to my shed wall, which is protected from the sun, heat and rain and fully covered over by a Two tarps. Got any new tips for me? LoLLoL's.
@@charlescurryfishing many thanks!!!! That sounds like a great adventure. I’m farther east, just outside Houston. Right now, my schedule doesn’t allow for traveling. After December, perhaps!

Yeah.. I have outside cats as well.. two of them I like so I feed em so they stay around more often.
@@wendellfishing I have a cat condo with a heater under carport I made for the outside cats. They hang around in the backyard area and well fed

@@wendellfishing We don't own a cat but the Black Racers patrol our yard and i'm certain make a nice dent in the rodent population.

Right on
Mine is in the barn right now in the rafters.
Do you wash your yak and or put 303 or some sort of protection on your yak before putting it up for the winter?? If you do wash what do you use??
I pressure wash and use 303!
Love 303, that stuff really works. I use it after cleaning "every other time" I take the kayak out.
Just got a PDL 132. It was kept outside exposed for over a year. I hope it won’t have any issues.
I hope it is allright brother!

On just a pair of sawhorses or onsawhorses with straps supporting the yak? Which is better? Should the yak be supported in a certain place? Thanks.
inside or outside?
Am i good with leaving it on the trailer & the trailer parked indoors?
I think you would be good to go with that route.

Doesn't look like anyone is taking that easily!
My advice is to keep using it instead of storing it. Thank God for TEXAS.
I wish I could fish year round!
Texas here as well. Fishing gear around ftw.
@@thatfishingnoob just subbed. Not sure what part of Texas you are in but we will be fishing lake buchanan this Saturday the 11th.
