I’ve had a couple of episodes of reflux over the years, always thought food related. But having since learnt about mind body and looking back - it always came in times of stress!!

Thanks for this. I have been suffering from severe LPR (silent reflux, I assure you it's not silent at all) for long time. I 200% believe this is a strong TMS demonstration. I am surprised it's not talked more or realized more in TMS communities: almost all patients I talked to said it's a stress-induced disease and perpetuated by fear and stress. A guy with symptoms similar to myself killed himself not long ago for failed surgery pain plus loss of hope. I would appreciate if we have some success stories from long/severe forms of LPR or GERD!

Is LPR essentially your stomach sphincter that doesn't close properly?

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  Год назад +4

@@Madina_CR The question to ask is why it is not closing properly? My belief is that is the result of a brain perceiving stress and danger. We don't fix this with meds or any other physical treatment. We eliminate it by having a different relationship to the stress and perceived danger.

What makes one more reluctant to consider GERD (the actual Gastroesophageal reflux disease) or LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux disease) as tms is the actual incompetent sphincter that allows the acid to go to the esophagus. So there is an actual physical cause that unfortunately doctors can't cure yet. However, it's also true that GERD/LPR is very connected to stress, anxiety, emotional issues. In my case, I'm sure that my chronic stress, porn addiction, traumatic past, and deeply unlived and unsatisfied life over the years led me to develop this. Although food influences me and meds work for me, I still have symptoms even taking PPIs, especially when I'm worried about symptoms or outcome (what if this progresses, doesn't get better, and my quality of life decreases so much that I can't do my PhD, find a girlfriend, be happy, etc.). Also GERD/LPR also increases anxiety due to worry and probably inflammation itself.
So while there is a physical cause (1) there is also a psychosomatic component involved (there are many cases of people who change their environment, address stress and anxiety and reflux gets much better or even gets in remission); (2) maybe the incompetent sphincter is cause or affected by tms and (3) there are people with incompetent LES who almost don't get symptoms, 10% of people with incompetent LES don't have symptoms, and many people with hiatal hernias who don't have symptoms.
So even if tms isn't a cure it might be what is missing in order to control the issue and get it into remission

Hi Dan and everyone else who is reading this. I consider myself a TMS expert having been a suffer with acute and chronic back pain for years but then finally got on top of it many years back after learning about TMS and Dr John Sarno etc. However, now for four years I have been suffering terribly with reflux: Burping, Excess Saliva, Throat Pain, Coughing and the list goes on. These symptoms occur 24 hours a day and it has been four years with no improvements. I know we are not supposed to give it more energy by talking about it but I am at a point where I feel I need to find people in a similar situation so we can lean on one another. I meditate, internally yell at my symptoms, acknowledge my emotions etc but still cannot shake one single symptom to the point where I do worry about what this could potentially be doing long term and it's already been four years. I can't get through a meditation without burping or coughing etc. Dan thank you for your video, I appreciate you taking all the time you give to everyone suffering with this.

Recovery doesn't come from yelling at symptoms. It comes from teaching the brain we are SAFE. Yelling does not convey safety. It conveys danger. And the brain perceiving danger is what causes symptoms. DansFastStart.com

Okay-another old one, lol. I have Barrett’s esophagus (silent reflux LPR)and it does scar me but am getting better at dealing cos I know that stress exacerbates it big time. However since my dx 3 yrs ago, have had 3 people pass from throat cancer. However after a lot of fear and food fear-big time, and realizing that I am making my throat worse. Also, I didn’t know them well enough to know their life style. Totally agree with you Dan.❤

Barretts is what I have and I worry even though several consultants say that progress to cancer is less than 1 percent - therefore rare. Also once diagnosed any progress would be dealt with. Apparently I have about a 20-40 times greater risk dying of something else. My digestive issues came completely out of nowhere -- literally overnight where I went from zero digestive issues ever to crap guts.

Thank you so much for making this video. I have suffered from chronic reflux and LPR for about 8 years. During that time I have overcome several TMS symptoms including hand pain, depersonalization and knee pain. Sarno's work is so incredibly important to me in that it helped me when literally nothing else did. I am having a really hard time with the reflux. Of all the symptoms I have had, it is the most pervasive and the most disturbing. I really appreciate you making this video and giving me hope. To anyone still caught up in this fear, ( i too, still have this fear!), i wanted to offer the thought that, Joe Dispenza, shared a story in his book 'becoming supernatural' about a lady that developed esophagus cancer. It triggered me just reading it, BUT.. she heals her cancer and all other physical manifestions of stress and bodily imbalances through the power of the mind. Whatever we create, we can uncreate. Also, pregnant women, myself included get terrible reflux. But we dont rush to conclusions during those 9 months! I love Dan your description about the lining changing as a protective mechanism. The body is amazing. X

Hi. Appreciate the video. Im 44 and NEVER had any GI /reflux issues in my life. But over past 4 years i went through a lot of trauma in my family and am in grief around thst, then had a concussion and 2 months after that had covid for first time. The reflux only came on after the covid. Still have it now, 18 months later. I find the reflux gets worse on days where i have a lot of grief that needs to be released. I can feel it come up and then some time later will have an enormous cry and it subsides. So it makes sense that its a distraction because - and pun intended- im finding it hard to "digest" the stuff that went on in my family that had caused the grief. I am also not a dr but in the research ive done there are 3 things that "control" the lower espohegal sphincter: 1) nervous system 2) stomach acid level (ie if there is not enough stomach acid the spincter wont close) 3)gastrin level. So my thinking is this: if im in fight or flight /dysregulation then all the digestive system shuts down as when were in fight or flight its not considered important to digest our food. So if the system is shut down and we're not producing enough stomach acid then the spincter wont close properly and then reflux emerges. Ivealso read that grief in itself causes reflux because it sends the nervous system into fight flight. As i said im not a dr but those are my thoughts. But it makes sense that its a tms issue being caused by a system.in chronic fight flight

I have bad reflux off and on for years. I'm still on stomach meds now I was off of them for years and it was at Bay. They told me I had Barrett's esophagus and then they told me they misdiagnosed me and I just have acid reflux.
I do believe that it's TMS. It used to scare me but it doesn't anymore. I've only been working on TMS for so long but this is something I believe I'll be able to beat once I come to 100% diagnosis of TMS for myself.
The amount of stuff I have going on at one time is unbelievable. When I do this and I must say WHEN because I'm sick of doubting it.
There will be a sight to behold in a testimony that I've yet to see in the TMS community.
You might want to do a success story with me once I get past all of it Dan.
    RSI currently
    Acid reflux currently
    back pain with sciatica currently
    PTSD
    Panic disorder
Post acute withdraw syndrome from benzodiazepines. (I'm currently still tapering)
Knee pain and a torn meniscus. Currently
The sciatica the meniscus and the RSI all happened this past year. I feel like the chances of all that happening and it not being TMS is pretty crazy.
I also had a UTI that lasted for months it started last October 31st 2021.
And guess what they could not find an infection and they sent me through every test imaginable. They were baffled by it.
They finally said it was some kind of viral epididymis or Orchitis because they couldn't find any bacterial infection.
It finally just went away on its own.
If that wasn't TMS I don't know what is.
In my eyes the laundry list of things going on that I mentioned above has to be TMS.
I believe I'll be healed through TMS work and through God. Especially through God.
But once I come out on the other side I'll be doing videos for sure to tell my testimony and help others.
I have a lot of videos about my benzo withdraw journey on my channel and I was thinking about making one on TMS but I'm going to wait until I'm better I think. 🙏🏽❤️.. we'll see if I still feel led to do a video I probably will. It's rare that I see videos about TMS when people are actually going through it still.
***I felt that I should add one thing*** seeing some of the comments on this thread, that my reflux has always gotten worse and has came back after being gone for long periods of time when I had major stress events in my life. It was gone for a very long time and came back when I had the urinary thing which worried the heck out of me.
I was off stomach meds and kind of had it at Bay with diet until this RSI thing started and then it came back with a vengeance and that's why I'm back on stomach meds.
I feel like things that are brought on by stressors are usually if not always TMS.

Being in fight or flight (stress response) suppresses the digestive and immune systems. A suppressed digestive system can allow reflux to happen. It's TMS for sure.

Before I ever heard of TMS/PDP, etc. my acid reflux was totally cured when I changed to a whole-food plant-based diet, and I am not the only one. Could my chronic hyper-vigilance and other TMS-related qualities have contributed to its development? Sure. But I think dismissing the connection between diet and acid reflux is like dismissing the connection between diet and heart disease or diabetes. However, getting an exaggerated stress response under control can certainly help with digestion related issues.

Hello Dan, I've asked you a lot of oher questions, so I hope I'm not bothering you! I just wanted to ask a question for clarification, because I am not even sure what to eat.
When you say that reflux is TMS, does this mean that it can go away in an instant, rather than requiring any sort of slow process of getting accustomed to new foods after a bland diet?
I feel very upset about trying to introduce food slowly because I keep introducing small amounts, failing, and imagining how impossible it will be to get back to normal. But I am curious about if that disappointment and belief that my digestion is messed up, and the long path of reintroduction keeps me even more stressed and makes it worse. So I am wondering if I convince myself that I can eat ANYTHING, my hang up will go away, and it'll disappear? Otherwise will continue to keep wondering about "how bad the reaction would be if I ate something even worse."
So I have thought...should I go eat 4 tacos with spicy sauce all over them and pico de gallo, facing all of the most problematic foods at once, leaving no room for questioning what would happen if I did it...

It all depends on your fear. Fear is created by doubt. If you are terrified of eating foods because you fear your digesting is messed up, it may not go as well as you hope. If you are willing to try and unafraid, go for it. If symptoms happen, do your best not to care or feed them with more fear.
Nothing goes away "in an instant". My take is that reflux is caused by stress and being in fight or flight. Stressing out about reflux caused by stress is like pouring gasoline on the fire. Lose the fear, the body will return to balance.

@@PainFreeYou Dan, I actually ended up eating three tacos and a fried sope and used hot salsa, onions, limes, all reflux triggers-and somehow nothing happened! All after reacting to small amounts of tomatoes and onions recently.
I believe it was because I had quite a big perspective shift after telling myself I did not want to be in the prison of slowly introducing foods forever, and I felt much better mentally, and didn't react to the food. Even though I was afraid!
