Even if people taper for years it could still take them years to feel normal. He never even answered the question. I tapered for almost 3 years I am almost 11 months off and I still feel like crap. I don’t think he really knows what he’s talking about.
This is just my experience, but I’d like to share it with you all. I understand this experience will be different for everyone. I was on Xanax for three years, 1.5mg-1.0mg/day. Three months ago went down to 0.5mg, and about two weeks ago, I went down to 0.25mg. On the 23rd of June, I quit Xanax, and the only withdrawal symptoms I had were “benzo belly” and insomnia. It’s day five off Xanax and “Benzo belly,” and insomnia dramatically subsided. I have no more stomach pain, and I can sleep easily at night. My anxiety level is around 1/10 to 2/10. I don’t remember how long it’s been since I’ve felt such little anxiety like this. While tapering Xanax down to 0.5mg, my rebound anxiety was at least 9/10! It was causing me severe paranoia too. I’ve been able to do errands with almost no anxiety, and it feels incredible. I know how horrific this drug can be. I wish everyone healing and health. You will overcome this.
Sounds like you didn't have it to rough and were lucky. I've been stuck on this med for 6+ years at significantly higher doses and tried several times at tapering and I'm almost 50 and have never been through such a tough process in all my life. It's hard to describe the feelings others than just feeling "off". The insomnia was terrible and ranked right up there but the buzzing in my ears and blurry vision were easily just as bad. Been told by my Dr. That I may never see a day of being totally free of benzos and if did it would be a very long and gradual process.
@@Postthisvideo I can relate to Your experience far more than the OP (no offence to them). I had a Hellish time getting off Benzos too. One thing I Did learn while coming off all sorts of substances is THIS- try not to feel like You're experience is invalid compared to someone that has an easier time getting off of benzos.. everyone is different and most people have a hell of a time getting off them. Everyone gets there in their own time and at least you're trying. Look after yourself, Sal 💜
Congratulations I've actually read that some people can stop benzodiazepines with. Ery little withdrawal while others have severe problems. Mostly you only hear the horror stories so I think it's important that people hear the others as well
I went of 4 milligrams of xanax a day cold turkey because i didn't know what what the medicine was. i almost died and completely lost my mind for 3 weeks. it took me approximately 8 months before i felt normal again. i wish i knew about this back then. Thankyou mr. B for helping people who don't know what their doing.
Yeah you have to taper off benzos.. there is a great guide that breaks it all down written by a doctor in the UK. It takes longer than expected for most. First time I tried they gave me phenobarbital.
@@modztur nono I tried amd cut 40% first cause I did not know wgat I was on at all and I literally almost died. I could not speak or move and I puked 24/7 for weeks. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months.
Hey man, I just wanted to tell you that it does get better. I am on month 9, and still having palpitations and anxiety spikes here and there… but nowhere near as bad as I was even month 4, 5, 6… it will and does get better. There is no medicine or route you can use other than time. I know it sucks to hear this, but your central nervous system is repairing itself.
@@Smoking_LofiDo u feel beating in your back/stomach w your palpatations? It's been 4 months & it scares me. My anxiety is still bad but better than in the beginning..Wish u luck!!
I did it cold turkey after moving away from my doctor. It was absolutely horrific to put it mildly. It took me three years. I was by myself in a brand new house with so much to do. Things I wanted to do. The shock affected my heart and I have ptsd from the shock of it all. Never again!
They are physically addictive, and is the ONLY other thing than alcohol that can kill you from withdrawl, his willingness to get around how seriously fucked up they can be with this light hearted garbage,is hilarious.
I was prescribed 6mg clonazapam a day when my doctor terminated me, red flagged me and threw me to the curb. I quit for 8 months cold turkey off that and it was he'll. I didn't have the money to get the right help. It took 6 years to find someone to taper. Finally now that I have an Ashton Manuel taper, my life has been helped a lot compared to what I went through before. I really think this issue needs more attention.
Dr B - it doesn't matter how slowly you come off Benzos. If you "feel normal again" you probably shouldn't have been on them to begin with. WD from Benzos brings on the same symptoms they were designed to fight. So what's "normal" mean to a person that lives with GAD and the 24/7 feeling of Panic, fright and the uncontrollable acceleration of the Fight or Flight mechanism? I've been on Klonopin for 25 years and have been taken off them twice. After the second time, with no end in sight of what people normally perceive as withdrawal symptoms, I finally realized 3 or 4 months later that I WAS off Benzos and THE HORROR was that this was my normal self without them. Then came the question of "Quality of Life". Was I content with living as a borderline Agoraphobic, with no social life and in a constant state of feeling Attacked by my own self or slipping comfortably away from it all into the ether? I've been there and decided I preferred the latter option. I owe my life to the continued influence of Benzos.
Benzos cause baseline anxiety levels to greatly increase along with many other withdrawal symptoms. If you're a part of the subset of people who undergo protracted withdrawals it's possible you'll experience withdrawals for two years after cessation when going off cold turkey. 3 or 4 months means you got to about 15 percent of the way back to normal and gave up.
@@Gman513 so I'm a quitter huh? I never wanted to come off of them to begin with. I've been told by 3 or 4 psychiatrists over the past couple of decades that I'll probably be on them for life. Why live a tortured life, with an uncorrected neurochemical imbalance, when with the addition of one pill, twice a day, I can live a balanced one. Tell a diabetic that they "just gave up" when a Dr refused to prescribe them insulin. I'm seeking "recovery" not FROM Benzos but from my anxiety. The "Bio, Psycho, Social" boxes for my diagnosis have all been checked off long ago... I'm 61 year's old and there's zero chance I'm experimenting with a 7-10 year torturous potential for recovery. Everyone's neurochemistry is different.
@@TheFreezeCriminalFetusvideos look, it's your choice to stay on benzodiazepines. If you want to quit that's fine too. I was providing information to you from what the literature has indicated. You are likely experiencing a more severe symptom of anxiety than you were before you ever touched benzos when you had quit. It takes closer to 24 months to reach the lower levels of where your anxiety should be. Not doubting you have anxiety, but you're experiencing a heightened level of it since you're likely going through Protracted benzo withdrawals. Anecdotally, the worst portion of the withdrawal anxiety comes between months 6 and 10 of cold turkey fyi. You were getting closer to the hardest part of it all. Dr. B's video says that people trying to quit should not go cold turkey and try the long term tapering method. That'll help keep the increase in anxiety levels they're likely to experience over the many years of tapering to a minimum. If that interests you, then discuss it with your prescriber.
@@Gman513 No it doesn't interest me. My first 30 years of life, prior to addressing my condition, were more than I could endure. I'm not spending another day feeling that I'm less than what I could be. I apologize though. I didn't mean to sound so snarky. 🙄
Right, but benzo's are becoming a highly abused Rx drug(not Rx'ed to user or inappropriately prescribed) and he specializes in addiction recovery, so while you were prescribed it and it worked, people like my half sister takes anything handed to her(including meth) and probably dealt with withdrawals from a myriad of things, including benzo's.
Same for me, he dropped me after prescribing Xanax and a pain med for 5 years! The trauma, pain, and suffering I went through which lasted close to a year, was torturous! It caused me to have a full-blown nervous breakdown where I had to be hospitalized, and in the process, I lost my home and everything in it. That was about 10 years ago, and I still think I should sue him for such negligence and lack of care or direction.
@annstar2793 IT was many months before I felt okay, and thankfully, because I had inheritance monies in savings, I didn't have to work. I don't know how I could have otherwise! Yes, I am fine now, thanks to God! I hope this helps.
You didn't answer the question. If you taper off a benzo slowly it alleviates withdrawal symptoms however, if you quit C/T you can expect to fully recover anywhere from 2-5 years (depending upon how long you took a benzo).
I ran out of my .5mg Ativan 4 days ago. I would take it twice a day for about 3 months now. It’s hard to explain how I feel. It’s a combination of a hangover mixed with the fear you get going on a roller coaster ride. And I feel like this all day. It’s terrible.
I am half way through after being on them for over 10 years. I am now going through weeks - 9 weeks now of immune issues and still have sleep disorder. I have gone "safely" and "slow" I SHOULD NEVER EVER HAVE BEEN PUT ON THESE THINGS. GOD HELP ME IF I NEVER RECOVER FROM THE SIDE EFFECTS. IF THEY ARE PERMANENT MY LIFE IS GOING TO BE WORSE THAN IT WAS B4 I WENT ON THEM. COMPLETELY F*CKED UP THAT I WAS EVEN INTRODUCED TO THESE THINGS BY A DR FOR ANXIETY. THESE PILLS ARE LIFE DESTROYING.
Its taken me an entire year...i did a 6 month taper off of a half mg of daily ativan for one year...it caused bad palpitations for the past 12 months that my dr now is pushung betablockers to try...but i also have severe perimenopause and thyroid issues too, prolly exaxerbated by the benzo2 yrs ag

No. By 84, you'll look back on this as an old infection, not a phase. You'll see how much better life gets. Additionally, drugs, their effects and the withdrawal and cravings no matter how severe, can't stop anyone from turning their life around. And after they quit, it will get easier as week, months and years past. You'll remember your addiction until the day you die. But you will be much happier with your quality of life if you stick with it. People who use xanax life myself have another problem. We carry a huge stigma and that doesn't help. Nor does the fact that we are the types that NEED this medication to function.

cold turkey after 12 years of xanax it took 2 years and 3 mounth until i felt almost normal again so yeah it takes time if you cold turkey or fast taper
Do not know how you even survived a cold turkey. Could have killed you - literally. I hate these drugs so much. I am coming off slowly and my sleep will not settle and my immune function is f*cked. Every time I make a drop in dose I feel absolute sh*t. Now I am having a break from tapering and I feel so ill, and have for 9 weeks now, They have given me, or exacerbated my inflamed thyroid - thyroiditis. Its really awful.
Months, with residual effects lasting a year or more.. basic anxiety and sleep problems, even longer. In my opinion Benzos are harder to get off than opiates. Don't start taking them if possible..they effect mental health very badly in the long run too. I was prescribed valium at 14. I believe they damaged my brain.. The mood centre of My brain, specifically. In the U.K Benzos are only usually offered as a 6 week detox.. This detox is Far too fast and there is No leeway with Your prescriber's
My doctor just stop it after a year of using, and i really needed. Now i can't breathe anymore for almost a year after i quit. Now i need to order etizzolam by my self instead of the diazepam
I used for 12 days and I am completely dying from the symptoms. I have been tapering for over half a year in hell. I had no issues before that. I only had tinnitus and went to therapy where they recommended me rivotril as safe sleeping aid. I asked the doctor what it was and said I didn't want to take anything addictive. It is ruining me regardless. I felt the electricity in my brain go off and my brain feels black now.
You should have stopped months ago. Was on lorazepam 1mg 3 time a day cold turkeyd outta hospital after a few days and only felt like real crap minor hallucinations for a couple days and gabapentin made it a lil better u need a very slow taper with gabapenrin or u won’t get off it coming from someone who was on klonopin for almost a year never abused and weaned off after like 2 months very very minimal problems

I drew down over the course of a year. I didn't experience any brutal withdrawal symptoms. But looking back now 5 yrs later. it took another couple years to adjust.
I quit Klonopin cold turkey due to a severe paradoxical reaction. Tapering really wasn't an option for me and my doctor didn't believe there were any withdrawal symptoms from this drug. Worst experience of my life. Took over a year to feel somewhat normal and I honestly don't think I could do it a second time. This was after only 2.5 months of 2mgs per day.
I had the problem with xanax after 2 weeks of daily use. Couldn't believe I became dependent after 2vweeks of use. Took like a month to feel ok. Valume doesn't give me harsh withdrawal like xanax.

I have been taking alprazolam 3 mg a day for 15 years. I have tried a few times to go days without them and both time had seizures. My anxiety is so bad it keeps me stuck at home. Alprazolam was the only thing to help me get motivation and relaxed enough to go to the store to get grocery. It takes a long time to taper from benzos. The best choice is diazepam because it has the longest half life and is a long acting benzo. It also depends if your taking quick or long acting benzos xanax- quick acting, Klonopin-long acting. Dr. B please respond, I have asked a few questions multiple times concerning why naloxone is in Suboxone when it is only used for preventing people from i.v use and if your not an i.v user then buprenorphine hcl should be prescribed because the naloxone is only used as a blocker and long term use has been proven to cause renal failure , hepatic symptoms ect... Also buprenorphine hcl is safe as it has a ceiling effect and blocking effect. Buprenorphine hcl is safe for non i.v using patients. Naloxone long term for someone who isn't trying to use it I.v is dangerous as it is not needed.
In the U.K only Subutex is prescribed, not the sub/Naltraxone mix. But, You're only prescribed Subutex if You're no longer in "active addiction". You'll be started on methadone, then have to give clean samples for months and cut down to 30mls (1mg/1ml solution) then swop over to Subutex..due to the cost. Methadone is so cheap, they don't want to "waste" money by prescribing Subutex to addict's ..🤔 (yeah, I know..crazy, right??)
Oh I had aneurysm brain surgery in 1995. I was put on Xanax...After a year or so ( had no clue what was these meds) Yes it was logical because I had PTSD, depression n panic attacks after surgery) but I was hospitalized at my first attempt. So in the hospital I was put even higher dose. Now I know how addictive those meds plus how addicted person I am. Long story short. All my 4 serious, psichiatrist/ addictilogist treatment I was on. Long inpatient treatment I mean like 4-6 months. Last time I was in a psichosis forgot my name, dob everything. It in the beginning of 2016. My new GP, was an idiot he stopped prescring benzo but I was put on antipsychotics and anticonvulsants and something else. I felt unwell but told me to keep going on. I was an addict and he didn't want to feed my addiction and I was only historical. A week later or so bang. Blacked out. So hospital again. My doc thought I took too much. Me too because I can't remember 😭 anything. So finally there was no benzos at all. I got IV liquids and. anticonvulsants. So finally I was put to Diazepam n we slowly tapered to 12 mg pay was admitted from hospital in September and in November I moved another country. Left my well paid but hated job now. I am a part timer but still on 10 mg of Diasepam, 300 mg pregabalin and my Trintellix plus 2 Bp pills. But again I have to be careful because my 140 pills for 28 days is not enough...means the for last 5 days I have only 2mg pd left. So it is a red flag but my GP thank God will not prescre me over 10mg so as I'm older, less healthy and strong it is a non stop nitemare. I don't drink at all for 5 years, no cigarettes and no coffein at all. I am still blessed I am alive, graduated long ago but still keep on learning but my brain is less sharper, bipolarity is challenging. I think aneurysm and medications made the toll on me but I will never ever be benzo free..that is a very effective med but choose wisely it can be a life long issue
@@TheOnlyElle. I don't know where your treatment is... But suboxone with Naloxone has been around for about 15years . . But this is about benzos not opiate
I was only taking about 20mg of Clobazam (for epilepsy) for less than 2 years, and tapered off it for over three months (to reduce a risk of seizures) and am still suffering. It’s a lot better than it was (for about two months I probably should have admitted myself to hospital) but I have still have regular bouts of severe anxiety and anxiety attacks. Worst of all though is the IBS like symptoms, I have chronic diarrhoea and have to go to the toilet urgently at least 10 times a day. That’s actually had a huge impact on my life because it effects everything I do. I can’t work in the morning. If I drive somewhere in the morning I have to plan to leave earlier and make sure there are toilets on the way. I’ve kind of tried FODMAP diet, but thinking about food or cooking gives me anxiety, I also suspect it doesn’t really help much (although some foods do definitely make it worse). Worst bit is doctors just kind of write it off as being caused solely by anxiety or getting older. Which is annoying
Another thing, 4 times in the last ten I was addicted, I had strokes, is that common? I hate researching this, compounds stresses I have no relief from for the last year and a half
There was three years of hell before I started feeling bettes. I went to a detox center and they took me off cold turkey. If he'll use anything like I spent the next 25 days in that facility don't want to go there. I was taking a prescription Klonopin for several years. It has ruined my life;
this is correct for some but not all. It’s not withdrawal for many of us but neurological injury, which takes many months to years to heal. I tapered 19.5 months, which was as fast as I could go, and I’m still not healed seven months out.
Can anyone tell me what he means by a “serious physiological & psychological pathological space”? Does he mean physical dependence? Thanks anyone who can clarify for me!
Valium as the weakest bento in the family; and has a very long half life. You should always taper with benzodiazepines. Going down to 5mg would have been smarter but cold turkey off 10mg of diazepam is very doable
I have taken 0.25mg Rivotril for a total of 9 days in two weeks and then I stopped. Doctor said no need to taper off. Is this true? I cant sleep after. Or must be my troubled thoughts?
This is one of the most terrifying thing I fear. I was put on Klonipin in 1994, 30 years later, I'm still on 6mg's of Xanax. I just got up the courage to ask my doctor to cross me over to 8mgs of Klilonipin. Hopefully it will stop the interdose withdrawal symptoms. I've been put in situations where I was forced against my will and went through horrific and terrifying withdrawals. I wouldn't even wish this on that douchebag Klaus Schwab. That's how bad it was. 😢😢😢
There's no going back. You might experience minimal withdrawals but even after months of cessation the urge to pop in a Valium just never goes. In my case atleast. I'm just 24.

This is false. Tapering properly gives you the best chance to avoid/minimize WD symptoms but it’s far from the black and white answer this guy is giving.
Hello doctor, i have this thing, it's a bit hard to believe but I genuinely want an explanation. So basically i sometimes take benzos in large amounts (10-15 2mg rivotril) for a while then stop cold turkey. I never had withdrawals after, actually i never had withdrawals to anything despite taking unholy quantities with the exception of meth. Could you explain why i don't experience withdrawals? Thank you. Also love your videos!
14 days cold turkey was the farthest I could make it. I've detoxed off of everything including long-term methadone 150 mgs, all of which seem like a breeze compared to benzos. I didn't eat, sleep, use the restroom, for 14 days, just siezures and vomiting blood. I was so weak I couldn't walk. It just added to my PTSD, and this clueless new dr is about to put me through hell again.
I was on them for 2 weeks and at quite a high dose the doctors didn’t want to help me and I went into a serious withdrawl like to the point of sucicide
Woah the level of ignorance the medical community has towards benzos injury is on full display in this video. He speaks with such confidence, this has to be the Dunning-Kruger effect at work.
That’s amazing! Can I ask when you started turning a corner and finally feeling better? I’m at almost 22 months off everything and still really struggling with dpdr, akathisia, and racing thoughts with cognitive issues (among other physical symptoms). These are 24/7 still.
Whatever way you come off the withdrawals are awful. I was on 15 mgs now down to 2 mgs and I’m not sleeping, having panic attacks and struggling to go out. I was on 6 mgs for years. Hoping that I cope. My WD symptoms despite the panic attacks (infrequent) so far haven’t been that bad but I’m scared about being off them altogether as I’ve been battling agoraphobia and going out much more. I don’t want to be trapped inside by withdrawals
My doctor did this to me cutting my dose in half in January and adding baclofen on top of it which is a drug I could not take and I had told him that over and over. He started this Kaskade. I'm 57 intractable pain patient. To fail back surgeries. Just found out I have EDS, adhesive achronitis, Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr, rheumatoid arthritis, and God knows what else. I have been in withdrawal since January and it's now June. 🤬
Sadly this is the level of ignorance the vast majority of medical professionals have regarding benzos.

Concratulations, Friend! You've done amazingly well!! 🕯️☺️

Yeah you have to taper off benzos.. there is a great guide that breaks it all down written by a doctor in the UK. It takes longer than expected for most. First time I tried they gave me phenobarbital.

The doctor threw you under the bus no? Same here
Thank you so much for sharing and congratulations. It’s good to finally hear an encouraging story and a more positive process.

How do i properly taper a 0.5mg daily dose without using diazepam; i am having the worst withdrawals of my life
I have been taking alprazolam 3 mg a day for 15 years.

Oh no, when did you have the seizure? How long after dropping benzo?
I mean was it the 45 days off, then had a seizure? I hope you're doing well.
Did you go cold Turkey? Is that why you had the seizure?

Though ill keep things updated goodluck
😊😊😅
I will never feel the same again. Its the devil torturing u. Even Drs dont have a clue cause they never experienced it.
Most docs don't want to deal with taper in my experience.
Benzowithdraw can be horrible if down to fast twice I ended up in the mental hospital full blown psychosis depersonalization etc from quitting cold turkey also risk of dieng or seizures the third time I got off over a long period much easier
What did they do in the metal hospital to help you?
How long of a taper did you do?
@@Godhealsnatureheals around six months or so for the tapper that was successful for me The two times I ended up in the hospital there was no taper.
Such BS, tolerance wd, some ppl cant slowly taper you are just doomed anyway and it can take years
Took me 2 year to feel almost back to normal.
Same here. Sleep pattern returned to normal.
I am on 90mg Methadone(serious Opiate addiction) and daily I am on two 2mg Clonazepam and 3 2mg Lorazepam Sublingual..I have basically been on this for most of 20 yaers. I am 42 and I get these meds once per week..Now I just take all the benzos within 2 days( 21 Ativan and 14 cloazepam.. I am screwed. I am going to die.
Anyone had a pretty straight forward withdrawal ?
Is he a doctor or a politician?
His the best doctor
I only took one for the first time and im dying right now i have super vision and hearing + im cardiophobic which makes everything worse
I took I think 2 years to grind my way of 2mg clonazepam and it was grueling. I cut a quarter pill every 6 weeks to 3 months and I felt every single step
If your quitting benzos...only listen to someone whose come off benzos. This guy has no idea and is extremely presumptuous thinking that his opinion matters because he's a "doctor" lol
I’ve been taking clonzapam for less than 2 months.. Will I feel much of an effect if I stop taking them cold turkey ? I’m only taking 0.5mg as needed
Gee thanks went to jail 2021 got cut off cold turkey got out a few months ago and still have withdrawals just like the first few days off.
Yo bro did you ever start using again? N how you feelin to this day
This Doctor apparently played a lot of Dodge Ball as a kid. Danced around the question like a politician.
Exactly i judt csmr off 12 milgrams of kolinopin in 2 months at home with my last script. Depends on the mental power of the individual. If u have control of you're thoughts youre definitely abesd of the game
So you didn’t have many WD symptoms??
What about now
If you're going through benzo withdrawal drink a little alcohol it will certainly take it away the same with ghb withdrawal alcohol will take it away but be careful you don't end up becoming an alcoholic coz your need ghb again to stop the alcohol withdrawals or valium.
After taking it for years and years i got myself off it tapering off took me 3 months or more i can xanax free its tough to get off it from recovering for years
This is false.
That’s amazing!! So when you stopped the benzo you didn’t have any WD?
14 days cold turkey was the farthest I could make it. I've detoxed off of everything including long-term methadone 150 mgs, all of which seem like a breeze compared to benzos. I didn't eat, sleep, use the restroom, for 14 days, just siezures and vomiting blood. I was so weak I couldn't walk. It just added to my PTSD, and this clueless new dr is about to put me through hell again.
I was on them for 2 weeks and at quite a high dose the doctors didn’t want to help me and I went into a serious withdrawl like to the point of sucicide
i lost my pills 3 days ago and now i have a terrible headache and super paNIC. iS THIS PROBABLY SOMETHING DEADLY FOR ME?
Yes you should see a doctor immediately as you cannot stop benzos cold turkey. hope you're ok.
@@mordie31 I am ok fortunately
Maybe type of brain tumor . They should do mris for everyone that’s been on this stuff .
What do i do if i got fever ?????
Let's give all these doctors benzos and let them experience what we go through
Woah the level of ignorance the medical community has towards benzos injury is on full display in this video. He speaks with such confidence, this has to be the Dunning-Kruger effect at work.
13 months off of clonzapam I think I have brain damage from going cold turkey. 😢
How are you doing now?
@ doing great thanks for asking
That’s amazing! Can I ask when you started turning a corner and finally feeling better? I’m at almost 22 months off everything and still really struggling with dpdr, akathisia, and racing thoughts with cognitive issues (among other physical symptoms). These are 24/7 still.
@@ashleychristie5023 just started feeling better recently I also had really bad Akathisia where I would pace all the time it sucked so bad.
Helppp please what should i take ...my family is a burden .....
Spoken like a true doctor
No reason they can’t do a slow taper most people are dead because of that. Absolute cruelty. 😭
