Amen! I am a retired Texas Peace Officer with 30 years service. I had very high goals and standards for myself in my career. I quite by accident discovered vast corruption within the criminal justice system and became hated over night by high ranking officers. I paid an awful price for that and was never allowed to use any of my training, education and God given talents for the rest of my career. I knew God expected me to forgive them and I wanted to but my disdain for them would not allow me to do it. Until I knew until I did, they would always torment my life. Asking God for the strength I needed, I finally was able to forgive them and a burden that I carried for decades was gone. Today, I am free from the bondage that my lack of forgiveness kept me in. God tells us to forgive our enemies and today I can tell you forgiveness is in my heart and so is great happiness!

Forgiveness and trust are separate things. Some people are not sorry, and will hurt you again. So, don’t let them in your inner circle. Joseph tested his brothers to see if he could trust them, in Genesis. That’s wisdom. If they had not changed, Joseph never would have revealed himself to them. That’s wisdom!
I actually heard this on a silly Christmas movie: When you don’t forgive someone it’s like you’re watching them as they are held in your prison, but you can’t move on either so you’re held captive too. It’s when you forgive them and set them free that you are free to walk on as well. God knows men’s hearts. He says “Vengeance is His”.
The thing that might be missed in this is that the Nazi guard had truly received forgiveness from God through his salvation. He had the humility to approach Ten Boom himself and to explain how he came to ask her forgiveness. He didn’t try to justify himself but rather relied on God’s justification through faith. This reminds me of Paul, who said “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14.

Ms Ten Boom suffered real pain and harm at the hands of her captors yet her faith never wavered. We should strive to live such a life. Our world would be a much better place. Make the world better by saying God let it begin with me.

The order is the opposite way around. Once we have truly received the forgiveness of God for our wickedness against him how can we refuse to forgive others?
She was a true Heroine. When we forgive the offender they have no more control over us and it sets us free, this is what Jesus meant by saying he would not forgive us until we do forgive because we are refusing his love and we can't move forward with him until we do, it is all for our benefit and fellowship with Jesus our lord.

This reminds me of the parable of the workers in the vineyard: Matthew 20:1-16. Where the landowner promises each worker the same wage at the end of the day regardless of when they started working. At the end of the day the workers who were there since early morning were angry because those who only worked an hour got the same wage, but the landowner said that they had received the wage that was agreed upon and rebuked them for being jealous of his generosity. It sounds simple on paper to forgive your enemies. But I can't imagine being in that position.
