Without contest the best painting instructor of all the RUclips vids I've seen! Down to earth and says the fundamental stuff, damn I wish more RUclipsrs were like you.
1 min into the video and i already love the education being given here. No other instructor I've come across has stressed the importance of self-expression in the way we use our tools, as you have. What you said touched ny heart as someone who considers themselves a "copy artist" fundamentally because of this reason. Thank you. I wished I had focused on this aspect more, sooner into my journey.
Love it when a teacher is serious about having fun. Appreciate your stressing that each of us not only can create a unique expression we must do so. Thank you again for a great video.
What u say makes soooooo much sense-seeing for ourselves what our different brushes can do by playing with them, then we come up with our own interpretation-this is brilliant-thank you so very much and ty for doing the various brush strokes slowly!
Im currently painting a piece for a competition and I'm kind of stuck since it's mostly about nature that needed strokes for a specific details. I just find this out and it's really helpful. Appreciate this a ton!
Many thanks for the foliage strokes tutorial. You are a down-to-earth instructor and I do appreciate your knowledge, your time, and your beautiful talent.
I took a class , I asked teacher to show the brush stroke , I can never forget her look 😏 made me dropped her class and start you tub learning . So far i think is the best decision i made . I truly appreciate you 👌💕
Mehdi Nadimi hi, have a look at kevinoilpainting channel. He has many full lessons available...oil painting wet into wet. Every video you'll learn something New...just need to really listen and watch...
I just have to say I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel. I'm very new to painting so I can use every tip you have! I love your explanations and demonstrations and the tips in general. I also wanted to add that you seem like a very nice lady and I really enjoy watching you. Thank you for taking the time to make all your videos. I truely appreciate all your hard work and time!
The only art teacher I came to see her videos from time to time, and again because they are so really what art should be taught, IMO. Every time I watch I discover new stuff to do on the same subject. Many artists here teach what they know and some are really good but Dianne Mize goes beyond that.
Thank You Diane!!! These tips are loaded with information. Very helpful. I would also like to mention, I am really enjoying your book : Finding Freedom to Create.
Thank you! I've been pondering ginko tree leaves for a painting and the last comma strokes, done both left and right, look to be perfect for their fan shaped leaves. I just purchased some filbert brushes in hopes they would be good for it. This video gives me confidence.
Thank you, Ms Mize. I always find your programmes helpful and informative. I often pass your advice (and links!) on to our students at the Angel Academy of Art, Florence. MJA
Wow, an artist that actually tells people to get to know their brushes. I have always been partial to the filbert brush, and I can get it to do most everything I need. I have various sizes and bristles. I have other brushes too, but I keep picking up my filberts. Great video.
It's not so much which brush, but what you can make it do. That's why it's important to get to know its potential. Most of us will end up having our favorite brush and I believe that's part of our expression.
Thank you so much for providing us with these tips which are extremely helpful. I've been trying to figure out how to best do foilage (without much success I might add) so I am going to try your tips. One thing that I truly appreciate is that you want each person to have their own expression with their art, to find their own style and with your tips I'm sure I will find mine. Thanks again from a Canadian subscriber.
Thanks for that, Paula. You are right. My goal as a teacher has always been to help provide tools for each artist to express his or her individual uniqueness.
My pleasure. And just for the record, I DO have a book (two of them in fact), but check out Finding Freedom to Create.on Amazon - www.amazon.com/Finding-Freedom-Create-Painters-Roadmap/dp/1452596948/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525777429&sr=8-1&keywords=finding+freedom+to+create&dpID=41b8YrEHPHL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch
Thank you for your time. I really enjoy listenIng to you teach. I also enjoy watching your quick tips. I am working towards more time to open up and to be able to take a class this summer. I am tied up into May. I really need to learn my brushes. Thank you
Absolutely! I can draw but when it comes to painting I’ve been doing along with my daughter she’s amazing, for about 3-4 years and am still Struggling ugh so I agree 100% get to know them brushes and what they do and the effects they’ll give off … great video thanks😊
Oh, I am so grateful! You are amazing and help me so much. I have been playing around with paint for the past year and a half. These videos help a lot . Thank you! You seem like a lady I'd like to have tea with. 😁💕
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed! I am trying to paint leaves that I haven't seen before never mind paint before. Your 4th example is exactly what I needed! This leave has three of those points on it so now I know how to do and will hopefully get it the way I wish. :)
Thank you once again Dianne, you've woken me up & my husband, who plays with watercolour, is reminded to play with his brushes too. Another great piece of encouragement.
You are an amazing teacher Diane. Thank You! I've bought some of your videos and worth every penny! my paintings have improve a lot. :) Love your approach, you make me think to learn :)
I'll put this one on the schedule. I do want to say here, though, that there can't be just one way to paint bare winter trees against a light sky. The time of day, weather, whether cloudy or in direct sunlight, and species of trees as well as technique all play a part.
Thanks for yet another great video! You're a brilliant teacher. Could talk about atmospheric perspective at some point? Maybe how you handle it in a forest vs. in a wider vista? Anyway, many thanks again for yet another excellent video. Take care.
You're the best instructor around. Please own how many people you truly help. No one can watch your videos without learning a ton. Thank YOU!!!
Wow! Thank YOU!
I love that you first tell us to make our marks. Learn to make marks our way to be an individual. I think your teachings are great 😊
Thanks so much.

That's how it works with tools. It helps to know what they can do.
Also know how you compare to someone else, works with the same brush. Same brush can work so differently depending on who is using it. 😊
Yes ..It is true ..You are the best instructor around..

I painted with a broom!!!
Helen Van Wyk's teacher told her that you can paint with a broom if you know what you are doing.
Thanks for yet another great video! You're a brilliant teacher. Could talk about atmospheric perspective at some point? Maybe how you handle it in a forest vs. in a wider vista?
