      My 65inch Hisense TV is one of my best purchases. The only drawback is when I have to move it so that I can clean my windows as my back is not as good as it once was. I would be unable to move a bigger TV by myself. So in the future I will be looking for a smaller TV or a projector.

      I've really enjoyed my 65" Samsung KS8000 for the last 8 years. It's brighter and more vibrant than ever, but to my eyes, it looks like it has shrank in size (even though logical part of my brain says that it really has not). So . . . this year, I'm definitely in the market for the new 85" Samsung QN90D.

    Maybe I'm in that niche consumer category, but I love it!... The more cinema-like, the better. Having your friends over towatch a movie, sports or play games on a 98" TV seems great! 🤩

    • @TheKwod
      @TheKwod 6 месяцев назад

      Whilst I agree on the cinematic part, I also recommend a reasonable amount of brightness otherwise brightness will suck in general, HDR and especially DV will suck in their own respective manners.
      TCL does the 98 as a 98C845....that should do the trick, granted it's gonna cost.

    • @Cleisthenes607

      Yeah the viewing angles are insane. I can't wait for MicroLED to come online and do everything OLED does without the drawbacks.

      But why would you ever watch your TV from that angle, though?

    • @Cleisthenes607
      @Cleisthenes607 6 месяцев назад +9

      @@BojanTomic You have a bunch of people over, you can't all sit dead straight on, a bunch of people will view it from harsher angles and you don't want the picture quality to degrade.
      That angle is almost 180 degrees but even less than that the picture quality degrades. That's why its important.

    • @tonypaca3015
      @tonypaca3015 6 месяцев назад +7

      that oled tv was in the back, being protected from all light sources which is a hassle for oled, not only that, the mini led being in front means way worse angle due to the distance to the camera its way closer to the camera. Not fair comparison

    • @bthdimension
      @bthdimension 6 месяцев назад

      I agree with @@tonypaca3015: The TCL provides shade for the OLED, so it doesn't need to deal with reflections (e.g. that light next to the tv) and the TCL is at a worse angle. After seeing both TVs in person, I still think the TCL looks way too washed out compared to the OLED or even the Samsung QE98Q80C and the sharpness was pretty bad (looked like a video games with AA turned off). Wouldn't recommend

    I purchased a 98 inch TCL about 10 months ago. Not that model, but still a DLT as opposed to a Miniled or OLED. It superseded my premium 65 inch OLED from Panasonic. I the TCL I have is a couple of models up in the TCL from the one you’ve just reviewed. In my moderately lit 18 feet by 21 feet lounge, it does not look out of place, does not dominate the room and has absolutely no issues with brightness. I’m also really happy with its audio production. Good bass. Excellent dialog clarity and huge stereo separation. It does start to distort if turned up too loud, but, more than sufficient volume for my lounge.i don’t feel the need for a soundbar. I had that 98 inch TV installed mainly for the wife’s benefit and moved that 65 inch Panasonic OLED to our bedroom. Personally, if I could only have the TCL or the Panasonic, the TCL would win, all day long.
    My forte is 2 channel, premium hi-fi. I have a good friend who, now retired, used to run his own hi-fi/tv retail outlet. Although he is retired and has sold that retail outlet, he still has all his trade contacts. So I employ him to get any hi-fi or tv upgrades. He could not get the TCL for me, I had to go elsewhere. When he called round to install some upgraded hifi components and view my TCL, he told me, that he had just installed a 98 inch tv from a premium brand in the home of an A-list celebrity, who for confidentiality reasons I won’t name. He said that tv retailed at just over £20,000 and the picture quality on my 98 inch was equal to that £20,000 tv.
    I think that in the next couple years we are going to see the price of these XL TVs plummet. I think they will become commonplace in the typical working class, British household.

    • @AlphaZero1
      @AlphaZero1 5 месяцев назад

      This is good to know. The living room in the house we just bought is fairly long. Do you have your TV at the 21ft side of the room or the shorter side? We're not looking for full immersion by any stretch but we want to make sure it's big enough to see in the longer end of the room for sports and such.

    • @howardskeivys4184
      @howardskeivys4184 5 месяцев назад

      Where I placed that 98 inch tv was pretty well decided for me by room geometry. 1 long wall of my lounge is all window from above 3 feet. The other long wall has the door to the hallway at one end and the door to the kitchen at the other end. So, for practical reasons it had to go on a short wall. Plus that short wall contains the antenna outlets for both the RF and satelite signals. If you are thinking of a 98 inch TCL? Keep in mind that it’s ’off access’ viewing angles may degrade as you increase your angle from it. So opting for the short wall would minimise this effect. Plus, sitting at a distance of about 12 feet from the screen is equal to sitting in the 2nd row of the cinema! But, it would not look out of place on the long wall.
      Hope this helps?

  • @sharksbean

    I like to turn the lights off during a movie so the projector I have has worked really well for me. Plus it’s easy to put away out of sight when I’m done so that’s a huge bonus for me. Nice video buy the way.

      @Thetechchap  6 месяцев назад +1

      It is a 144hz panel, it can handle fast motion. I have the 65" version. But the default image is garbage. The TV does too much image processing. I disabled everything, beside frame interpolation. Get rid of improved black, sharpening, noise reduction, color improvements, etc. Otherwise the channels will look like blobs of colors with no detail. The setting are by input, so you will need to do this multiple times.
      I need a second TV, and I'm thinking of getting this one as main now that is a lot cheaper.

    - TCL 98" Q9K - with 1536 dimming zones at roughly 2100GBP

    Well, not all Americans live in barn-like mini-mansions. Like a lot of people, I live in a post-WWII starter house, an 1152-sq-ft Cape Cod style with a 726-sq-ft footprint. Excluding bathrooms, 4 rooms down- and 2 rooms upstairs. Allowing for doorways, windows, and half-enclosed staircase, the largest TV I can wall-mount is 60" (unless I mounted it directly opposite the 6-ft wide picture window, which is far from an ideal spot). There aren't any truly nice 58" or 60" TVs, so I stick to a 55" OLED. I could have a larger TV on a stand, but that takes up limited floor space from other furniture, and you have to allow for walking space. Theoretically I could mount a larger TV in the 2nd-floor bedrooms, which is not where you really want the largest TV in the house, and most of the wall space is canted at 45 degrees because in a Cape Cod the 2nd floor is essentially a furnished attic. That would actually be a convenient angle to watch TV from bed, but no one seems to make a wall mount designed to hold a TV flush to a downward-angled surface.

    Besides mobility the st projectors loose badly nowadays in all other aspects given fixed size of alr screen setup. I would pick last year's hisense 100u8kq or wait a little bit for current year's hisense 100u7kq to drop price (already at 2500e when you search). Or if you want better viewing angles wait for next model year of tcl or hisense with hva or ads pro panels respectively at those giant sizes.

    I would consider a big screen tv instead of my projector for my home cinema. But maybe not this one

    I've noticed that unless a TV is no less than 80 or even 85-inch diagonal, it does not look like even close to how it would, if we were within realistic distance from such views. Though I gave into getting 75 inch, because of the difference in prices, and it is a 120 hz. less than that is obviously not very good at all for live programs. But, I have not opened up the packaging yet, even after almost two years. Because I did not think through my very limited one room "apartment" And I did not buy or think about mounting options to fix extremely limited space. That may coast at least $300. to get above my head level mounted to make using it possible. So, I may need to get one of those very nice projector types I have seen.

    I would say a 65 inch LG Oled or Samsung Qd oled coupled with a Samsung Ambeo Max soundbar would be a amazing setup for 3K! Best display coupled with best sound...

    Hello Techchapman. Thank you for the review. This would be a great TV if it didn’t have the picture quality of a $150 TV. Pay 10x more fire 10x the size

      @@Thetechchap thanks for correcting. i see yuh compensated mini led tech for the size. there is a hisense u7k or tcl qm8 mini led available in 85inch at same price . you shud have gone with that. 90 and 100ish inch tv with mini led are fairly new and highly expensive so they are in the range of 4 to 5 grand.

    So the brightness is poor and so are the black levels. On top of that this also impacts on the colour and vibrancy. Yet you say it is a good tv and not a "deal breaker". These factors significantly impact overall picture quality and are very much deal breakers! Picture quality is the most important factor when it comes to TVs. I appreciate TCL have sponsored you and you are making money out of this. However your RUclips followers are the ones listening to you and keeping your channel going. You owe it to them to be upfront and honest even if this upsets a manufacturer. The truth is more important and what people want to hear. Not a skewed truth where you financially gain.

      Perhaps for him the downside picture quality compare to the size of the screen is not deal breaker. I mean it’s 98 inch screen… 😅
