- I never went to camp, as a kid. My friends and I just ran around like a gang of hooligans all summer long. I always wondered what it would be like -- all the learning and making new friends.
So when I heard about a nationwide program that encourages women of all backgrounds to learn outdoors skills, I just had to check it out.
The national BOW site: www3.uwsp.edu/...
Arizona's BOW: azwildlife.org...
The stuff I use, from Amazon: www.amazon.com...

That looked like so much fun! Glad you got to enjoy that. Awwww, the homecoming was sweet, the fam missed you❤
I missed them too 😊
How fun! I am so intrigued! ❤ Thanks for the share!
Fun learning in the forest. I’ve never heard of BOW. Will have to check out the classes online. I just love your set up, the changes you make to adapt to the needs. I choose the ‘tent’ option, always. Peace in the forest! Thank you for sharing! 💜🌸
LOL 😄 Always.
Looks like a fun time!
I’d rather the tent camping area myself. Quiet. Not many people.
What a great idea! My job requires me to pretend I’m an extrovert, but the reality is I am quite shy until I get to know people. So camping with a group of new people would scare me a little at first. But having common activities would really help to break the ice!
I am taking my kelpie and border collie camping this weekend on 100 acres of Sydney bush. We will be camping next to a river full of bass and sharing the land with a few cattle so I will have to make sure my dogs don’t try to herd them. :-D I spiffed up my SUV with an awning and a little side tent for my doggies to sleep in. The bush I am camping in will be lush and green, but also cold as we are heading into Winter Down under! I see dog coats and thick sweaters in my future! :-)
That sounds absolutely lovely 🥰 Stay warm -- you and the nuggies!
The altitude at Friendly Pines Camp is approximately 6300 feet. If you're coming up from a lower altitude please hydrate at least 2-3 days ahead of time and drink lots of water at the Camp!! It will make your stay more comfortable!
As a desert lizard, I hyper-hydrate. DripDrops are life! 🚰🚰🚰🚰🚰🚰
@@ShoestringMartha oh my gosh I use Drip drop too!! Strawberry kiwi and grape fav flavors!!
@@rslooby6130 Yummm! My latest obsession is lemon DripDrop in unsweetened tea. Like a hydrating, slightly caffeinated Arnold Palmer.
That looked like a lot of fun! I love learning all of that kind of stuff. I would have liked being a bit apart. I'm not full-blown antisocial, but I do avoid too much peopling! 😂 It wears me out. Being able to retreat would have made it much more enjoyable for me! Thanks for taking us with you!
Same. Socializing is well and good, but also a drain. Solo, re-charge time is required afterward.
The Princess Bride, one of my favorites!
Thanks for sharing this, I'd never heard of BOW. I might look into it. And like you, I'd probably opt for the "tent" camping, too.
I plan to go....sometime. I find being in the company of women...trying. I think I like your setup where you could engage or not. That moment of first light...when you've survived the cold darkness and a new day beckons....it's my favorite feeling in the world.
Totally agree! 👍
Same, but just like, people in general. 😄 Mealtimes were a bit overwhelming, so I was happy to have my sanctuary at the end of the day. It probably meant I missed out on making some connections, but was essential for my wellbeing.
I had the same thought - it would be nice to have a familiar space be away from the group when I needed to be! :-D
😂 All this.
❤😊, what fun. I took my daughter to a WOW weekend just the two of us, when she was about 10. It was the same sort of thing, but for families. It was well worth it because I got to expose my daughter to outdoor activities and spend some time with just her. It is one of my favorite camping trips ever. Now that my children are grown and my husband has passed away, I have been considering doing BOW, and possibly joining Sisters on the Fly... I really love my alone time though... Thank you for taking us along on your adventure.
I do as well, but it also seems worthwhile (and sometimes... fun??) to stretch my boundaries -- occasionally. 😂
Great video! I’ve never heard of BOW, but I’m definitely signing up for a summer class next year in MI. Looking for morels in AZ is something I never would have thought of. This fall I’m taking a couple local classes on mushroom identification with a mycologist. I can identify several already, but I’d like to learn more.
Oh fun! So far I've learned that morel hunting is a little different here - more difficult - and we have some of our own varieties, like burn morels, which pop up where wildfires have been.
It was so awesome meeting you there and finding your channel!! Highly recommend BOW camp to ladies wanting to get into the outdoors.
Same!! 👏👏👏😊
Gourmet smores, fire, evening activities. In the morning coffee is always on in the dining hall.
👍🏼
Do you know about the Southwest school of woodworking? You seem like you like to learn new things and work with wood. I think you would like it. They offer weekend classes. No experience necessary and you get to make really cool things to show off in your home. I’ve taken the cutting board serving tray class, wood turning a platter, and wood turning making pens. It’s at I 10 and seventh Avenue.
I have heard of it! I thought it sounded really neat 🥰 but I'm so hooked on functional design, I wish there was one that taught cabinetry or house framing 😄
My wife and I both got into archery on a really basic bow, that we both shared. We realized afterwards that it should be tailored to your size and strength. If it's something you choose to pursue having a bow setup specific to your body makes it so much better! Once setup you can go from being able to hit larger objects at close range, to stacking arrows at great distances. We archery hunt together, but really enjoy just going out and target shooting the bows.
Archery was definitely my favorite class of the bunch, and I could totally see myself picking it up as a hobby in the future 🥰
This was April 2024...hello fellow BOW camper!!
Hellooooo!!! 👋🏼😄
That was a fun video
Cool video. Nice to see you get away for 2 nights. 😎
Hope you had fun. 😊
I did!
I love the BOW adventures! We have them out here in Massachusetts. I haven't been in a while but that's where I learned to shoot and operate a lot of my power tools! In addition to orienteering, beekeeping, all kinds of cool stuff! Glad you got the chance to experience it! Thank you for sharing!
Niiice - I would love to learn about beekeeping!
What fun. Never heard of the group, will definitely check it out. Thank you for the video.
Great video. Love the road tunes! 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻
Great video! Thanks for sharing!!
This is so cool! I didn't know about this organization and it turns out that the one in my state is just in the next county over!
Right on! 👏👏👏
Looks like a fun group...freindly greetings. That rock class would have been the one for me and archery
Everyone was so friendly and you just could tell they were so jazzed to be there. 😊
Looks like lots of fun! Thanks for sharing! ❤ I’m cross-eye dominate 😵💫 I have to truly concentrate. 😂
LOL -- whatever gets the job done!
hate having a saggy bed . have had to add a lumbar support item on top of the house mattress. on the fly casting class how far did you all manage to throw your lines? trying too figure out if i am average at flying. the cheap easy fudge recipe is equal parts sweetened condenced milk & cocoa powder. just mix it up. try a couple teaspoons of soy sauce in the next batch of crab raggon you do. if you take up archery. ALLOWS where a wrist protector. an make sure it covers the first 4 inches of your wrist. i where a above the elbow flex bend style extra long one. have smacked my wrist several times. the string will bruise your skin.
I couldn't say for sure. We started with the lines pretty short, and then the instructors pulled them out by another 15 feet or so. So maybe 30 feet total?
THIS CAMP SOUNDS AMAZING. Im all about outdoors and love camping. Never been glamping. WHAT NO GUNTHER? SHAME ON THEM!!...LOL. YES WE...I COME HERE FOR GUNTHER..AND YOU OF COURSE.
Registration is open for the September BOW camp...September 6 to 8 at Friendly Pines Camp. During the summer it's a kids' camp, and it's been in operation since the 1940s I believe. It's rustic for sure but it's a blast ! This September will be my 13th BOW...I always learn and take away something new.
I’m from Oklahoma and there are BOW get togethers. My work schedule and their schedule didn’t mesh but now that I’m retired, time to check it out! Thanks, it was a great video and I loved seeing your welcoming committee ❤
Yay - the time is now! 😄
That was really interesting. I've seen it advertised in one of my fb groups. I'm going to try it.
Looks like good times! Hope you enjoyed yourself. Same movie made me fly fish as well!
How fun! Had to check it out in my neck of the woods… no BOW in Cali! Harrumph. Thank you for sharing Really looked like you had a great time!
Bummer!! 😔
Oh, one more thing…how do the moonroof screens work? Good, fair?
It works great!
I’m really intrigued this camp. Looking into it further. Thanks so much for sharing. One question totally off topic 😁 is what is the rear window netting you mentioned and do you have a link? Thx
It's this one! lunolife.com/products/4runner-trunk-window-screen?variant=44073516368107 If you decide to get it, put it in your cart, start checkout, and then leave the site. You might get a discount offer. That's what happened to me, but I had already checked out 😣
Thanks so much for the link. You were right. I was able to get the discount. I’ve already shared this with 3 of my 4R camping buddies. Can’t wait to get it and put it to the test. 😃
@@judyshorrock7368 Sweet!! 👏👏👏
Wow! That looked like sooo much fun!! I have a question regarding the bluetti. Does it seriously pull 15% just heating water?! I am about to pull the trigger on a 180, but now I’m concerned. Anyway, can’t believe you can still fit in your Girl Scout uniform! Im jelly. 🤣😂
lol if I still had it, I couldn’t fit an ankle in! 😂
I may have let my kettle run too long. 15% seems unusual, and much higher than last time 🤔
You have excellent taste in music! But, doesn't it demonetize your videos?
It *can*. YT runs a copyright check during upload. I've found that generally, if I keep it very brief, in the background, with no vocals, the bot has a more difficult time identifying a piece. If it does identify a piece, it will mark the video ineligible, in which case, I edit it out and re-upload.
What’s the difference between buying something from Temu vs. Aliexpress? Which is better (quality wise) and safer (privacy & protection wise)?
I have never ordered from AliExpress, so I cannot fairly compare the two. All I can say is that, personally, I’ve ordered from Temu a few times and nothing horrible has happened so far 🤞🏻 The quality is as you would expect for the price.
@@ShoestringMartha this could be an idea for a future video? 😉
Temu vs. Aliexpress: pros and cons.
Aaaawww Gunther says i missed you mom...why did you forget me? No one will ever greet you like your dog!!!! Gone 5 min or 5 years
True story! 😄
thank you forswearing.
An e-bike would probably be not welcome.
Actually glad I did not. I would have stuck out like a sore thumb 🫣 Also I was 100% kidding.
