    Hi Ben. I watched 4 other videos but you were the only one that probably explain which side of the tape to apply against the wall. That was a very important detail. Thanks.

    I love how there is an art to taping and mudding. There’s so much more to it then just throwing globs of the shit on the wall and pushing paper strips into it. I always appreciate a good tradesman when I see one, especially if I’ve had experience trying it myself. And you definitely know what you’re doing. Thanks for the instructional videos.

    Complete noob here, bought PB paper tape today thinking it was "sticky back".... On opening it I though WTF do I do with this? Quick look at YT shows me this well presented and concise explanation. Well its more involved that I thought, but I'll have my "jointing compound" tomorrow, and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the excellent vid.

    Thank you! I'm doing my attic now. Your videos are really helpful. Here in Poland it is kind of "abnormal" to use paper tape on joints. I bought quite expensive german-made mud which is designed to use without taping. I think you Canadians (and craftsmen from the USA) know drywall best, so I decided to use paper tape though. Blah blah blah :) Thank You!

      In case Ben doesn't see this soon, here's my novice input: If you can spare the time, let it dry hard. I've accidentally gouged out slightly damp prefill when taping corners. I've also seen Ben tape over quickset that's firm but not dry.

  • @Zyo117
    @Zyo117 Год назад +1

    As for the ends of tape, I tend to wipe inwards, toward the center. Carefully the first few times to bond the tape, then harder to flatten it out. Tiny joints (less than 4 inches) I've found its best to prefold, then flatten again your tape, then back-butter the tape on your hawk. Bond it to the wall with your fingers and then wipe out with your blade, it doesn't slide. I use CGC beige all purpose lite, for most plaster work, for full clarity.

    Hello Ben! I am an avid follower. I love your approach in teaching us DIY'ers. You articulate detail very good, include humor, and if I had to guess, you are educated past HS. Just a guess. I love your style. You leave no (sheet) rock unturned. I'm impressed!
    But I have a problem that isn't addressed in an internet search, youtube, or any online media. I really hope you can find the time to help me out.
    I had/have a factory joint crack 8ft long adjoining/adjacent to a 4ft butt crack on one piece of textured knockdown vaulted ceiling drywall. Where those two cracks met, I also had a field crack, which broke off once I removed paint, mud, tape, & tape bedding mud, down to original DW seam. So in that corner where the 2 cracks met, where field crack cut cattiecorner to the 2 joint cracks, I cut out a 23-13/16th square patch shaped from a 2ftx2ft patch from Lowe's. Soooo, the factory joint seam is not great, but ok, along 8ft side. Original DW guy was a bad aim with hammering DW nails. And I dont know what he was nailing DW to, except air. But along the butt edge, minus my patch, he ran out of 2x4 joist, and again nailed DW to air most of 2x4 width. Hanging joint! This 4ft butt crack, minus my 2ftx2ft patch, both butts, are spotty cracked & broken. Again, his hammer aim was off. If I cut out installed DW, there's no guarantee the next joist over will be any better. Could be an endless loop, catch 22.
    So how do you butt next to damaged DW? Remove loose pieces, make my butt, then prefill with quickest before taping? Is there a better solution? I'm all ears.

      what I do is cut 2x4s 2 inches larger than the opening and place into the cavity, and turn them perpendicular, then I screw the 2x4 though the existing drywall. place these every 16 inches, now you can cit a new piece of drywall to fit the gap and and screw it to the 2x4s you just installed. Mud, tape , sand and paint. good luck.

    Thank you for doing all these videos. It really helps us new to the trade. Question, after you set the tape like you did at the end of the video, do you let that dry before you apply more mud over the tape?

    Do you put another coat on it afterwards? I see you can still see the tape is that normal? Does it disappear after primer and paint?
