- Get a look even more behind-the-scenes as I share how I plan a photoshoot. Planning for a session with film photography or digital photography can be super complex, but if you take my approach, you may find it incredibly easy to hit the ground running. It's rather simple! In this video I use a Hasselblad 503CW with a 40mm f/4 distagon CF FLE, loaded with Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Ektachrome E100, and Kentmere 400 medium format film.

Great images - That old Ektachrome held up really well!
Thank you! And I totally agree. It wasn't stuff I had kept cold much or at all, either. So I'm not completely sure what its secret was. ha ha.
I love love love the Ektachrome pictures with Amber!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to go back to that spot again after a long time away from it.
These are some fantastic shots! I love the saturation of that E100!
Keep up the great work, I subscribed! 👍
Thank you! Portra is nice and all, but I’m in love with saturation. I appreciate the comment and subscription, too!
@@JamieMPhoto I'll admit, I think Portra is over-rated. I don't love anything I've shot with it yet.
@@RunNGunPhoto Actually, I really only like Portra 800, and 160 sometimes (usually just in lage format). I do like it more with extreme attention to properly recreating the color in just the right kind of lighting, but I have the hardest time getting anything I like with Portra 400. I do, however, LOVE the older versions of Potra.
Just WOW. This time it was very difficult for me, choosing my favorites. All are amazing. After some deliberation, my favorites of this episode are: 1 - 3 -4 -5 -12 - 13 - 15 - 17 - 18 -20 - 22 - 25 - 36 - 38 -40 - 48 - 50 - 52 - 53 - 55 & 62. My top five from the first part are: 25 - 12 - 13 - 4 & 3. And from the second part are: 55 - 62 - 53 - 40 & 48. I really like both looks, the aesthetic is very pleasing on the first one. But The second one is my favorite, not just for the color, it feels very elegant, highlights her natural grace. And the cut of the dress is magnificent.
Awesome, and thank you! That's a great way to describe the second shoot, too. It's definitely a plus to have shot so much with her that we were instantly able to work things out, as well. I appreciate the feedback and thoughts!
Awesome! As someone who is getting more into building up a portrait photography portfolio this is amazing content. Been binging your videos for awhile now and I always feel so inspired afterwards.
Awesome!! So happy to read that. If nothing else, I’m more than happy if people get inspired to go make work after they see my videos. Thank you! And I hope the portfolio building goes super well!
Amazing collaborations! Shots came out amazing!
Thank you!! I really appreciate you watching, and also commenting.
I like the emphasis on how film relieves you of getting hung up on gear. I haven't shot a full photoshoot on film yet, but I'm jealous of how freeing it sounds!
Yeah! It was a little unnerving at first to not have the safety net, but I got used to the results and it's really nice not to have to take constant "Let's see the shots" breaks.
I agree completely. While having those "instant results" with digital can be useful, I find i get too distracted analyzing every photo I take instead of staying present in the moment.
Definitely! I like to be able to check a photo here and there, but it's definitely not worth the distraction and the potential prejudice against shots because they didn't instantly match my expectations. I have so many old photos I thought were trash that are actually pretty decent. Thank you!
Ahhh those crossed images are incredible! I'm totally stealing this idea for slide film, maybe I will like the results too and gonna shoot more of it 😅
Awesome!! I recommend it! The color balance on cross-processed E100 is trickier, but Negative Lab Pro handles it like a champ, especially with that Cinestill light. Hopefully I don't make you regret the trade. 😅
Really like the way you experiment & the photos are great!
Thank you! Film can be destroyed in an instant of the wrong chemical or light flashing, but it's also so resilient at the same time. It's so possible to do all kinds of things "wrong" and still get something interesting.
Thank you Jamie!
You're welcome! Always great music!
A good reminder to take that flash out! Thanks man.
You're welcome, and thank you! It's definitely a little more hassle, but then the results can definitely make it worthwhile.
Thanks for giving us an insight into your process!! I love how you said you don't steamroll ideas, this is so important especially for the model or sitter's experience!
You're welcome, and thank you! I really do find the best work comes from collaboration, and the most boring work usually comes from following an original plan perfectly. ha ha.
@@JamieMPhoto haha def! the plan is just the starting point!
