Getting colorful with Popho Luminar 100 + Weeylite K21

- Kodak Aerocolor IV is a 125 ISO film intended for aerial photography, but can be used on the ground as well if metered at 100 ISO. Companies like SantaRae and Popho have been spooling it for consumers and it's given us one of the cheapest 35mm color film options available in 2023. In this video, I try it out with the Weeylite K21 light bar, an RGB light bare very similar to the Apurture Infinibar in many ways. In this video, I also give a go at the setup with a Hasselblad 503CW and I think it was Fuji Pro 400H.

Thank you for featuring our film! The studio portraits looks awesome.
You're welcome! Thank you for the roll! It's awesome stuff and I'm excited to shoot more.
Great results Jamie. I shot one roll of Luminar and liked what it did with reds, so I’m shooting my other roll in Chinatown in Chicago next week.
Thank you! Awesome! I'm excited to see what you get in Chicago.
Those images with "horror underlight" are fire! I think this type of light works if you use saturated colors. Looks quite interesting.
I also have been testing this film 🤫
Thank you! Ohhh, I'm super interested to see what you get on it. :)
Interesting film. I love how you lit these shots. Turned out awesome!
Thank you!! It's super fun to play with colors like this, and having continuous light makes it easier to see the effects and make little changes.
Thanks Jamie!
You’re welcome!!
My favorites of this episode are 6-7-14-15-25-29-30-32-34 & 35. And my top five are 35 - 34 - 29 - 15 & 30. I love the way this film renders the light and saturation, and how you experimented with the lights. It feels very different compared to Kodak gold or cinestill, is more like a gradient or a very, very calculated double exposure. And definitely is different compared to digital, where that kind of effect is difficult because it becomes just digital noise or lost information with no texture or detail and the contrast turned to eleven.
Thank you! So true about digital ... Even with so much advancement, pure saturated colors are so difficult for digital to handle, and even for it to scan (though the film does help get it closer even with that challenge). I need to try some darkroom prints of these type of images soon so I can truly compare the two. Thanks for inspiring that idea!
I like the look of the aerocolor, but unfortunately in my head I'm still living in 2019 film prices 😭
Yeah ... at least Popho has an exceedingly decent price on the stuff!
I have had some 120 silberra in the fridge for over a year that I need to shoot. Same stuff. One of the only good times to use that self timer I suppose. Very Marina influenced.
Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that stuff. I enjoyed getting to shoot that in 120, so hopefully one of these manufacturers will figure out how to make that happen again ... I know the F6 a bit better now, but I still need to make sure I dig out that release cable and keep it in the bag. ha ha. Thank you!
Been testing this film (Aerocolor - the Elektra version) out with C-41 reversal process, cause I thought, "hey, slide film is expensive and this has a clear base!"
Haven't been satisfied with the slide results (still has weird color shifts), but I'm going to try one last time with straight e-6 chems and see what happens. The minimal grain still seems to translate well, though.
I tried a roll that way, too! Extremely easy to blow highlights, but not something I want to quit exploring yet.
Analog Resurgence made a video about it, if you haven't see it yet. Someone also mention shooting it at 50 ISO helps with the color shifts with E6 Chemical. With the price of slide film going through the roof, Aerocolor as E6 is definitely worth to look into.
@@popho I've seen it! I'll have to remember to go eat again to compare my results.
I saw that! Definitely what gave me the idea. I will try it at 50 soon, I think. I might have shot the one roll I did E6 at 400, too ... I really should take notes. ha. Thank you!
