  • In this Saltwaters Hawaii episode, Sean and I go out fishing at a new fishing spot. This spot is full of life and all types of fish. We caught many fish but couldn't catch ONE SPECIES of fish.

    What you need to do is just freeline the bait to the broomfish with no weight. See him eat it, leave your bail open and let yourself feel him pull away line from the spool. After he gets about 5 or 10 feet of line, shut your bail, slowly pull back and set the hook. Letting him swim with the bait for a while lets him get the bait down to his throat so you hook him. The weight prevents you from him pulling on the hook without feeling the tension of the lead. Good luck brethren

    Spent 4 hours and a whole pack squid and shrimp at kakaako trying for bang one broom. Suckas is irras 😂

    My neighbor said it is his favorite fish. Tastes like poor man's lobster. I don't know, I gave it away, didn't want to try it.

      Believe it or not, one time I caught one small nenue on one piece of cut weke I put on one small hook. I never knew they hit dead fish too lol

    Use ika to catch broom fish as soon as it hits the water they will swarm if they are in the are, they have sharp teeth so they break lots of hooks and lines. Just gotta hook Um the right way.

    I'm telling you man u ever catch a broom fish grinds aka poor man's mahi use size 14 ah 12s work too but 14s are wat I use to hook them but they can cut your line

    Wow, pretty healthy reef. I fished those same waters decades ago and I don’t remember them being that prolific. Things must have improved. Have there been conservation/regulation efforts over the years?
